  • Today I've got a big 6 month update on my ADA 45p. This aquascape prominently features the stunning red plant, Rotala H'Ra. I'll walk you through how each of the plants are doing, as well as give you some tips for bringing out vibrant red coloration. Finally, I'll give you some guidance on keeping tank maintenance reasonable, and not too demanding of your time.

    I remineralize all of my tanks to 120 ppm TDS. Let me know if you remineralize using GH+ or GH/KH+.

      To have such pure water is a privilege, honestly I would not add KH. Only GH. Here the water TDS is as low as yours… BTW What is your GH and KH from tap water?

    Tank is looking great Logan! Things are really starting to balance out now! I have hard water here in Arizona and my rotala green are a very nice green. I also have rotala narrow leaf sp red which is completely pink/red.

      I was looking at some old footage and it’s definitely this powerful light that’s bringing out the pink in my rotala green. I have to dim the lighting down because I’m starting to get a bit of green algae, so hopefully some of that green color will return when I dim

    • @SlickNick3

      @@LoganRandoAquascaping that should do the trick! I know the longer the stems stay close to the light it starts to change and once I trim the tops and re plant them they turn green again and stay green until they reach the light and stay there for a long period again

    Hey logan, amazing vid as always. My week is never complete without watching one of your vids... Could you please do a video on how to stabilize and 'balance' an aquascape... Perhaps you can explain how to convert from low to high tech as i cannot find the right way on how to convert... Bba is a b..

    I’ve found with aquasoils you only need to add gh. The aquasoil will just absorb the kh until it’s buffering capabilities run out

      After I recorded the vid I realized I totally forgot to speak about the livestock! I've got a huge mixed school of Ember Tetras and Celestial Pearl Danios. They're such a joy to watch and are really voracious feeds. For cleanup crew, I've got some horned-nerites, Oto cats, Amano shrimp, and a small colony of Crystal Red Shrimp

  • @jacquelinemccarthy2046

    Hey Logan green algae cleared n a couple of days for me after adding algae shrimp. In Australia we use Darwin or North Queensland shrimp but I think you use amano shrimp where you are 😊the pretty shrimp just don’t have the same cleaning capacity

    I recently tried a dirted tank with CO2 and highlight. Due to my work schedule, I had to trim it when the plants reached the surface, which was way too late. Each time I trimmed the tank, I ended up with a gigantic algae bloom of hair algae. I am going to now have to catch the six or seven fish out of the tank before I pull the plants that I want out of it and redo the soil. (what a nightmare).

    Do you really like that Fluval surface skimmer?
    I’ve beat my head against the wall for years with that high maintenance skimmer.
    The black hole skimmer is doing a vastly superior job of keeping my tanks crystal clear on top.
    Plus, they have particulate/biological capabilities as well.

    • @LoganRandoAquascaping
      @LoganRandoAquascaping  Před rokem

      This surface skimmer is just a generic Amazon brand skimmer that attaches to the inflow of the lily pipe. It has it's quirks, but generally these are my favorite type of skimmers

    Hi, good tank 😉. About Rotala rotundifolia "green" ... i think that is other variant (not "true" R r green). There is a lot of variants of Rotalas. In my experience R green is easy to grow and not too sensitive about gh or tds, and, unlike other R. Rotundifolia varieties, keeps the green even with a lot of light . In my experience is normal find errors in names of species in the market (with cryptocorynes - one of my favourite genus- happens a lot ). / Hc cuba , unlike "Montecarlo" is an agresive plant in wardwater (your water is too soft), maybe is difficult for that reason and would be better try with montecarlo ( in my case is the opposite, i have hardwater and for that reason i use HC and not montecarlo 😉) . Greetings from Chile

      I have some rotala green turning orange as well under the flat nano. I always wondered why it’s not staying green. Not as “advertised” I guess ! Our water here in New York seems to be very soft in summer. I recorded 50ppm of the tap. My snails started to die this week and realized that my Kh was practically zero in my tank. I added some crushed coral to the tank which raised Both Kh/Gh. Will add the Shrimp mineral if the value stays too low.

    • @LoganRandoAquascaping
      @LoganRandoAquascaping  Před 2 lety

      @@FrogieFishOfficial You definitely wanna remineralize 50 ppm tap water. Take it up to 120 ppm TDS with some minerals

  • @Bst24
    @Bst24 Před 2 lety

    30 TDS is too low, you have to highen this value to 120 ppm at least... I use only the GH+ to remineralize the water as I have seiryu stones (these rocks raise the carbonatic hardness - KH) and I have Volcano Mineral soil from JBL
    It is important to remineralize the water because in addition to stabilizing the values of CO2 and Ph, it can be useful for plants because the salts contain nutrients such as potassium.

    • @LoganRandoAquascaping
      @LoganRandoAquascaping  Před 2 lety

      Oh yes, I remineralize all of my tanks to 120 TDS after a water change. I'm experimenting with adding GH/KH minerals now instead of just the GH since I don't believe these maple stones release carbonates.
