I love the parents' nickname for Hazel: Hazelnut. That's cute!
And I like that the parents aren't braindead, neglectful idiots who constantly go on about how happy they'd be if they hadn't had kids. Seriously fuck Mr. and Mrs. Turner!

Its my favorite serialized animated series after gravity falls. Even compared to stuff like Amphibia and Owl House which I love. Every season hits, except the last one, which was underwhelming because of the cancellation.

A New Wish made me realize that under a different creative direction, Fairly OddParents could've been an amazing anthology show. Instead of everything revolving around Timmy and the people he knows, the fairies would be the consistent main characters. They could've created as much serialised material as they felt like without disrupting the ability to jump into the show whenever, could've shaken up the show without the annoyance Poof/Sparky/Chloe created, and made a lot of money off finale/reunion specials.
It also would've put a lot more focus on the unique selling point of the show's format, rather than leaning into the same comedic cast dynamics every other Nickelodeon show did

You talk just like any other. Poof rarely got any episodes revolved around him and was mostly just in the background or a plot device. The first season that he was introduced in isn’t even outwardly bad for the most part. It’s just people like yourself who see what they want to see and run with them and the crowd.
A majority of the episodes after Wishology revolved around Crocker and Timmy’s dad as well as occasionally Foop while totally disregarding Da Rules and many of the secondary cast. Get your facts right. Everything else you stated is either mostly alright or on point though.

To me it isn't really a question of if Hazel DESERVES Fairy Godparents; the commonality between fairy-having kids in the original is pretty consistent (they all suffer(ed) parental neglect in one form or another, which is why Chester never had fairies until the Fairy Idol episode which made his dad too famous to spend time with him) - but it's moot here because Hazel isn't GIVEN fairies, Cosmo and Wanda decide to just help her out of their own volition.

I'm unironically a big fan of the show. Not mind-blowing or anything, but a solid kids cartoon that makes me happy every time I watch a new episode (also as a black girl I couldn't not watch a new cartoon with a black girl as the lead lol). I adore the dynamic between Hazel, Cosmo, and Wanda, and in general just love Comso and Wanda's relationship in this show. They act more like "2 halves of a whole idiot" sometimes, and it feels like they truly love each other like before 🥰. The idea that since the couple have been retired means they're out of practice with wishes is imo really interesting to do with these characters. It also works cause it helps Hazel come around organically to the lesson of each episode when her wishes don't go as planned (with Wanda sometimes nudging her in the right direction too). My favorite eps so far are the science fair one about procrastination, and the one where Hazel wishes her favorite manga character to life. It's filled with references, and I'm obsessed with the details of the character being animated less fluidly than everyone else + his mouth loosely matching the words coming out to really make him feel like he popped out of an anime 😂

I like how instead of getting a voice actor for Doug Dimmadome, they just used his son Dale Dimmadome, and his grandson, Dim Dimmadome. It just shows how the team behind the new Fairly OddParents series knew that Jim Ward IS Doug Dimmadome, so they didn’t want to replace him by removing him from the series. Which is fine by me, because you can’t replace Doug Dimmadome himself, so it’s nice that the team behind the new series payed respects to his voice actor by not getting a new one to voice Doug Dimmadome. Wait did I just repeat myself?

As a black man who’s researched as far as he could, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is the only GOOD black kids show now.
The really sad part is that there’s barely any good black kids shows running right now. I’m sure there’s some I haven’t heard of. But then you look at shows from the big three networks. Young Dylan sucks, That Girl Lay Lay sucks, even The Proud Family sucks now!
All three networks have been sabotaging practically every show that isn’t a spin-off, sequel series or reboot for like the past 5 years now. One of the victims unfortunately includes Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. And who knows if that show will get a third season.
Raven’s Home, Craig of the Creek and the latter show’s spin-off, Jessica’s Big Little World are all over now. Iyanu: Child of Wonder which we’ve waited for almost two years was just announced to be delayed to 2025!

To quote another review of this series, child abuse...isn't...FUNNY!
It's no wonder my view on Butch's work has soured over the past decade. Most of his work involves making stereotypes of gender roles, child abuse and treating the protagonist as someone who's dumber than a sack of used diapers (the ADULT kind.)
Meanwhile, it's perfectly understandable why Hazel would be miserable; her only sibling left the house AND she had to move away from her original home. Both situations are VERY troubling for a ten year old kid

That's true. When Butch takes the matter of hands of the series, that show really lived long enough to see itself becoming a villain. As long as Butch isn't involved with the show, I hope it's fine.

Honestly, I hope this show doesn't bring back Mr Crocker.
While he was one of the funniest parts of the original with how he acted and how pathetic his life was, I feel like this show should build up its own cast of antagonists. Yeah, they can potentially bring back the pixies and anti-fairies without problem, but I think that this show can and would benefit from having its own rogues gallery.
Now, that's not saying they shouldn't have a fairy obsessed villain, far from it as having one would do wonders for the show's stakes and would be a great way of placing further emphasis on how Hazel has to keep her fairies secret. Maybe, with how we have the whole Vicky archetype now at the school, the fairy obsessed antagonist could maybe be a next door neighbor, presenting an active threat when Hazel is at home, with it being a young paranormal investigator wanting to catch proof of Fairies existing.
Or, if they wanted to introduce an original show antagonist for the role, what about Ms Doombringer/Ms Sunshine from the original, her posing as the sweet old lady next door but is secretly trying to hunt and capture Cosmo and Wanda, but isn't as capable in her old age, maybe she has back problems from getting hit by a bus in her debut episode, maybe her mind has a little bit went. However, she's still more of a component threat than Crocker.

I have no clue why people think a funny show needs to be updated to be grounded, realistic, and therefore not funny. Even you said this show isnt as relatable as the original to the generation it's targeting.
Kids don't care about realistic character development. They want a whimsical show that puts their struggles through a cartoon lense.
And especially with this generation's lowered attention span, the substantially quicker pace of the original seems much more fitting.
Like i would be very interested to see a case study in one of these reviews which one gen alpha kids prefer because i feel like its probably the original at least 8/10 times

@@NICKtendoReviews I did, just doesn't feel as quick to me. A large part of that I think is Guy Moon being gone, but also the fact that Hazel's wishes don't escalate in the same way Timmy's did. When Timmy wished people would like him it ended with every fairy having a Battle Royale. When Hazel did it just kinda maybe caused a few people to make her uncomfortable.
Idk, she's yet to make a near world-ending wish she has to figure a way out of. And the whole concept of skirting around da rules hasn't come up yet (They only seem to pull it out for factoids now and less "you can't do that"), and keeping fairies secret also hasn't been a conflict. This isn't just concessions for a new take on the series, these were fundamental things that made the original interesting.
I see people talking about how changing the kid can lead to more interesting scenarios, but I think they should go deeper with that. Have Hazel end up in similar situations Timmy did, but for different reasons, and with a different solution. I really don't think "grounded" and "fairly odd parents" (Or hell, nickelodeon in general) should be words that are within 20 feet of eachother

honestly, the only aspect i enjoy of this series being more grounded than og FOP are the parents. theyre still clueless and dismissive about hazel in a way thats played excellently cartoonishly, but no where NEAR as cartoonishly awful as timmy's parents, and I like that balance.
but everything else being so much more grounded than OG FOP just feels off to me. ive seen people mention that hazel's wishes are lacking creativity and they should be getting way crazier with the ideas a kid would have for infinite wishes, but i think it goes further than that.
i think it's the way hazel and her friends feel more like regular kids. i like how more kids shows in modern times have begun writing kids as actual kids, rather than caricatures or effectively just being written as grown up personalities (though usually immature) who regularly restate that theyre kids who deal with kid stuff or treat it as being in a faction distinct from adults. (think ed edd n eddy, jimmy neutron, grim adventures of billy and mandy, danny phantom, kids next door (though that was their whole shtick to be fair))
i'm not praising the latter form of writing, but it feels like it contributed to the whackiness of older cartoons. hazel's conflicts dealing with more realistic and reasonable motivations kinda undercuts things and borderline makes it feel like an edutainment show with moral lessons and advice. of course OG FOP and those other shows i mentioned are no stranger to having moral lessons in their episodes, but idk, in my childhood memory, it always felt more like it was about whatever whacky scenario ideas they had first, underlying message second. or those underlying messages were fairly shallow or common sense.
again im not trying to praise that way of writing, but i think it contributed to the tone set by cartoons back then, like it really worked as an escape from reality where it didnt feel like anyone was talking down on you. i feel the only modern show that kinda nailed it was OK KO, they often times did have relatable life lessons, but it was played with an exaggerated and/or ironic tone that communicated self awareness. but it wasnt kicking itself whenever itd do this, it was proud to present this way, like it was going "yeah we know we're being cheesy, but we really do mean this stuff and think it's important!", which wraps around into a kind of earnesty that, in my opinion, made it feel like i wasn't being talked down to.
now thats not the only way a show can manage to strike that balance, and i was college by the time OK KO started airing so maybe my opinion on whether or not a kids show is insulting its audience's intelligence or not is moot, but its still my opinion and i'm just trying to walk through why i have it.
maybe i'm just spewing hot air though and none of what i said is a real issue lmao
