If only I had saved a copy of slamfest in 1999 instead of being 1 years old 😭
I was only in the womb but I should've had the foresight. And a home internet connection
If only I recorded it instead of not being born until 1 and a half year later 😢
Its alright man. No one is perfect. We all make mistakes.
I was a year old in 1999 too.
Yeah I was like 3 months old but that shouldn’t have stopped me like skill issue ig sorry guys lol
Imagine we get footage of slamfest 99 and it turns out it’s actually really boring 😭💀💀
I have the same feeling which is why I’m not interested in the search, those costume limit their movement, the most they’ll do is ram into each other
We literally already know it's boring 💀👍
I'm not expecting it to be good, I don't really see the point in looking for this. The journey to finding lost media can be interesting though
It's not particularly _exciting_ per se, but as one of the more bizarre pieces of official Nintendo media, it's definitely interesting enough to warrant looking for.
I mean yeah..? but the 'fun' in lost media is the history, search, journey, and nostalgia you rediscover as you look for it so it shouldn't really matter what the final product is
Honestly, even if the footage never gets found, at least we have all these photos and articles about the event, so at least it’s documented in some way. Other lost media haven’t been so lucky.
I doubt something like this is lost forever considering it was on a website from 1999 - 2014 or so.
On a serious note, f that fake email. That was just slander.
It's not even edge worthy. Not even goon worthy. Just nothing.
fr, supersonic is really nice i dm'd him asking about slamfest updates like a year ago and he personally explained it to me so nicely a real geniune guy
Yea and any way why would he fake not having it for Views because round up he has about 200k views for those videos and he would get more views if found so it’s stupid
To quote Paulie Walnuts, “F’ing slander, if you ask me!”
Interesting thing, I work with one of the former directors of that very same mgm hotel in vegas, he does remember slamfest 99 very vividly and according to him there were a lot of people filming the event so there must be footage out there somewhere.
That's what I thought ever since I found out this was lost media. It HAS to be in somebody's box of home movies SOMEWHERE. I fully believe it exists in somebody's basement in a box of other unmarked tapes, shoved in a corner or closet, covered in two and a half decades of dust.
It was pretty popular among my friend group in high school because of how silly it was. Definitely worth the effort imo
there has to be some normie who has a tape of it but refuses to share it

at this rate, Slamfest '99 is bound to end up in the same position as "Me and my Friends".
In the case of “Me and My Friends”, there’s an actual tape in existence, but Slamfest ‘99 is like trying to find a tear drop in the rain.
Maybe the real Slamfest '99 was the "Me and my Friends" we made along the way.

This HAS to be on someone's hard drive, somewhere. Even if Nintendo didn't offer a link to download the rebroadcast, there definitely existed tools to extract the file from the page source data, even back then. It's probably going to surface if and when a channel as large as Whang's (or larger) ends up covering the topic.
This was 1999
@@0xm Inspect exists
It's a bit more complicated than that - the video wasn't embedded in the webpage source. The "rebroadcast" file that you could download was just a container file that directed RealPlayer to stream the actual video from the RTSP address it contained. Think of it like a paper with an address of a house written on it, and not the actual house. To download the video file, the user would have to be savvy enough to open the container file in a text editor and manually download the file it was pointing to.
Love your Glimmy icon
probably not most people didn't know how to do that and it took up a lot of hard drive space and took forever to download back then. and hard drives tend to break quickly compared to other pc parts and people reformat them all the time

Are you sure it wasn't the TV commercial?
The classic "it's on an old pc of mine from way back when." No matter how far lost media searching progresses, this always remains
The only hope here is getting a homemade record with a camera of the event.
The official good quality streaming it's unlikely will ever be found
Have been following this search for many years now if this ever gets found I’ll pass out
watch it be found by showing up to nintendo HQ and asking for a copy

@@Rhettroizms MY MOM!!!
We really need that pink morning cartoon to be released
Thats highly doubtful the masters were confirmed to be destroyed. Also was limited to colombus ohio on a very weak signal. Not to mention it was in the mornings meaning it was harder to record live. Given these circumstances the whole thing will never happen unless the scumbag who destroyed the masters actually ripped the footage out of the tapes with capturing software before destroying them. This has everything going against it but unlike slamfest will probably never see the light of day.
Another great video as always!
Hopefully this video gives it the boost it needs to be found. I doubt it will, but it would be awesome
100% some rando has the .rm file you're after, but I really think getting in touch with random employees who were just trying to do their job and in no way would've made a copy or have one is a bit absurd. Continue to chase old webmasters, not people likely nearing their 50's.

Dude, these PR firms would not have "archives" of something like this. Especially something so long ago.
I was watching some old lssq videos when this came out, the timing was perfect lmao
this search and the dedication is so nuts
I really hope it will get found!
Nice that this search has still been going, atleast. As increasingly unlikely as it is, I would LOVE to see this get found one day. Regardless of the results, I think we can all agree that this is one of the most iconic lost media searches to come in this recent decade!
watch it be a clockman situation where it was literally uploaded on youtube the entire time 💀
I find it interesting how the banner in the background of some of the event photos says super smash bros "title fight" instead of slamfest
Related to video games, there is a canceled Japanese video game by Bandai called _The Girl Who Leapt Through Time._ It is based on a mid-1960s book series, and possibly had ideas from the 1997 live action movie that would be set based on the books' year release. It was going to be released in Fall 1998 for the PlayStation, but got canceled. No reason has ever been found. Minene Sakurano and Hiroshi Yamaguchi were involved in the game. Two video promos, and magazine articles were found.
Somebody living in LA could probably visit the park where Slamfest '99 was held and talk to the old staff members.

Asking wrestling collectors is like asking you dog what's in their mouth.
So we still don't have it from our first lead and honestly I thought this would be longer
A 20 min slam fest video is the best this that could have happened today
i feel that slamfest can be still out there but maybe some one still has some kind of recording of it but may not be aware that its so important or they do know about it and are just being to safe with what they have and are not giving it to us which is a real big headache if this is true. I have a feeling that it might be found and has a possibility of hope unlike me and my friends which is very slim for hope but i do hope that slamfest is found because its been missing for so long and many people have been waiting for this momment to happen
I feel like even if it is found, Nintendo will just instantly C&D it off the face of the earth.
Hear me out, but instead of a live stream recording of slamfest what if someone (like a person from the audience) recorded the event via through a video camera? As far as I'm aware the event never said you couldn't bring video cameras into the event. Plus, even if it was prohibited someone could have sneaked in a camera to secretly record the event in person, tho that's just a personal assumption.
that part where you were framed was pure cinema
If we can find lost nein levin footage that was never seen. we can find this
How close are we to finding the Me and my friends pilot?
mmmmm
There’s a chance it might pop up one day
I just find it funny that no one bothers to record on the day of the event? Surely, by 1999, people have access to video tape/camcorder everywhere, especially in the U.S.
Heck, Nintendo was already popular by that time and people do aware of Mario let alone Pokemon.
Well people wise, It makes sense. Screen recording wasn't a real thing and a lot of kinda didn't really record things with cam corders for content ya know?
They did in person but the livestream itself is prob much rarer and the hd one being deep in some archive somewhere
@@nexusgiga You may not find high quality footage, but a gif should be easy to find
@@HauntakuTV yeah. You'd think so
There wasn't a good reason for most people to record it. Smash was not the blockbuster franchise it is now with a huge dedicated fanbase, the stream was highly time-limited, and there weren't any new details or screenshots from the game for most of the gaming press to bother with it.
OH SHIT it's been 4 YEARS!
Anyone might have this complete on tape, who knows. they might even be watching this video right now and maybe even writing a comment at this very moment, but we'll never know.

i swear to god if there isn't any climax where one of the 4 unlockable characters comes in into the ring and beats the shit out of everyone, then ill say that the search wasn't worth it
I want to be creeped out by the costumes but DK genuinely looks really cool. Maybe it's my desperation for new DK on the next Switch (Edit: two ports, woooo) but that is genuinely a really good costume for this time- the placement of the seams and the padding, the way the fur is used to push dimension, etc. All aspects of this search are neat and I hope we can see them in action one day, thanks for accidentally putting us on to a costume and wardrobe company :)
So this will probably end with either being found, or being considered fully lost.
I was just watching videos about the topic nearly an hour ago, dang.
I wonder who Nintendo hired to play the characters. I wonder if it was Indie wrestlers from that time frame in the area, would be cool if it turns out that a big wrestler worked that match
This sounds awesome, its a shame that it got lost.
if you think about it there is a few ways slamfest could be found
1: a family member kept it as something their family could watch
2:nintendo does some anniversary
3:Idk we get enough photos or idk
Also it might just be me but when looking at the photos you dont see that many cameras or phones, it might be due to the quality but its jsut me
I'd laugh if someone manages to find the gif with the chair

So far, this has been quite the year for the lost media community.
Update I looked at the description and apparently Go! Go! Mario Paint had no book of its own, but had its thirteen chapters reprinted in other volumes, from volume 1 of Super Mario Kart to volume 1 of Donkey Kong Country. Assorted 4-koma were also included in certain volumes.
It took many years but the original back rooms photo location was found
This lost media case reminds me of Nirvana’s live 1991 show at The Roxy Theatre in California. Even though magazines were calling it “their greatest gig of all time”, no audio/soundboard recording or video proof of the concert exists, only photos.
Some people were apparently seen taping the concert, but no videos have surfaced for over 33 years.
A Redditor claimed that he was there that night and a security guard for the venue was personally charging $75 to anyone trying to bring a camera in. I’m glad that wasn’t the case with Slamfest and was rather from poor management of a source, but it’s still unfortunate that the search for Slamfest ‘99 has come this far and still no video has been found.
What about the people who manufactured the costumes and the agency who shot the Smash Bros commercial? Pretty sure the suits in the ad and this event are the same.
It's mentioned in the video. KCL productions has told us they don't have anything and are constantly getting contacted by people about this
I wonder what it’s going to be like when/if slamfest gets found one day lol. There’s gotta be someone out there with a recording of it.
Lost for 25 years
