    Great video, I have just bought a D7 and wanted to see if you had used yours to look at fuel trims, so great timing! The bad news is I can’t see the fuel trims in mine, I searched as you did but nothing comes up! My car is a Mini Cooper S 2009. I contacted Xtool but they haven’t been much help 🤷🏻‍♂️

      Scroll and pay attention for things for LTFT, STFT, any mentions of Fuel, Air/Fuel, A/F, etc.
      I've noticed across my 6 vehicles that XTool seems to initially go with whatever description or abbreviation the manufacturer uses in their own technical manuals for a PID.
      As a last resort, you can scan by the readings themselves, the short term fuel trims are almost certain to be continuously changing single digit percentages, negative or positive. When you see a reading like that, check the description to see if maybe that's it.

    • @ianhoulden2930
      @ianhoulden2930 Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the reply Kent, I do get a few such references but it says things like ‘air fuel ratio regulator output’ which has a value of 1 but is not shown as a percentage. It also says things like ‘cylinder bank 1 additive adjustment of mixed gas -0.66%’. I don’t see much fluctuation in these figures but I was using a Topdon Artilink 500 before which showed quite a wide variation of up to +/- 15-20 at times. I will try Xtool again anyway. Thanks again!

    Thanks for the video. Since you asked for questions, here's one: does the D7 have "PMI" (Programmable Module Interface) in it's Special Functions? PMI is required in Ford for ABS replacement, so maybe you can check Service Functions for ABS on your Ford. Thanks.

    You shouldn't try to reset learned values until after an attempted repair is completed.The pcm will just take your readings back to where they were before with some drive time.

    • @KentForrest
      @KentForrest  Před rokem

      This hasn't been my experience with transmissions or motorcycles, where resets have put things right for me in the past. But it's the first time I've tried this on Ford fuel trims.
      There was a specific history of trip types I wondered about affecting things. I wanted to see what a reset would do with that series behind me. I'd forgotten to take a fresh look until your comment. 6 vehicles here and my focus often changes. But I just checked and you're right, LTFT is back where it was.
      I will soon move to next step. Running this issue down very slowly, as it's not affecting running condition, and lots more items on the Todo list.

      @@KentForrest first and most simple check i would do mass air flow sensor, making sure it is clean. You can use scan tool to monitor it, using grams per second scale, your reading at idle with warmed up engine should be close to the size of your engine in liters for example your might be 2.2 or 3.4 liter engine.

    • @KentForrest
      @KentForrest  Před rokem +1

      Yes, this tool can be helpful in that sort of troubleshooting. For example on the window, if the D7 were able to operate that window that would tell you the motor is working, narrowing your issue down to the switch or the wiring. You're still going to need your own troubleshooting knowledge to accompany this tool, but this tool will save time and steps for someone with that knowledge.
      It's not magic, and it will not necessarily tell you exactly what needs to be replaced or repaired (though, sometimes it will).
      On the AC, is it blowing and just not cold? Or is it not blowing?

      I've not looked into this (the menus are deep and complex) so I can't say for sure. I think of this tool more as "diagnostics" and I am unsure if it has any "programming" capability.
      However, I do know for many cars it can reset an ECU (or transmission) by wiping the learning and starting fresh at factory settings.

    i bought a xtool d7. I tried the tool on 2 cars. One car in garage not running. One in driveway can not drive. Xtool pulled so much power from the battery that codes popped up all over the place. In my opinion i would not buy or use the xtool d7

    • @KentForrest
      @KentForrest  Před rokem +1

      There's a 120v charger in the box. Use that to charge your D7 up to 100% before you attach to any non-running vehicle and that should solve the big power draw.
      On a running vehicle, you won't have this concern.

      I call nonsense

    • @KentForrest
      @KentForrest  Před rokem +2

      @@camarogs1 I will give you a scenario where this could have happened. Let's say the vehicles under test had weak batteries. Let's say the XTool was low on charge. Let's say the XTool was plugged in a long time key on engine off. The XTool would be drawing charge and that could believably pull the car voltage down below 10v and trigger codes due to lost communication.
      Still, that's not XTool's fault and this same scenario would play out the same way with any brand of scan tool if it's not well charged prior to testing.

      @@KentForrest yes , i tried two of them. both had exact same issue with sentra 2005 even after a full reset and updates. i returned both back. I have 4 other sub 250 dollar scanners they all display short and long term fuel trims. it's unheard of not to display those at this price range. even 20 dollar code readers show those. i'm staying away from these 400-500 range scanners, I'm convinced the same company is writing the software for them all and they are just being repackaged under different names. because I tried a totaly different popular brand but exact same price range and capabilities and it did the same thing. no fuel trims.

    • @KentForrest
      @KentForrest  Před rokem

      @@WV591 yeah that's unfortunate. FWIW, I have found XTool likes to get this kind of feedback so they can work on corrections. They (obviously) don't get to test these across all these vehicle types. So user feedback helps the programmers discover bugs.

      @@KentForrest I tried contacting them, left VM took them almost a week to send email by then I had returned the scanner. I'll just keep using the ArtiDiag600S. A good scanner too bad the 200+ scanners display limited PID data.

    • @WV591
      @WV591 Před rokem

      @@KentForrest so this is what is happening with practically every sub 600 scanner bidirectional or not that i've tested last couple of months.
      Not sure what cars you have but test it using Scan and then Autosearch or select the car under that menu and select data stream look at the PIDs, most likely you will not even see fuel trims and the usual useful info like O2 sensors and voltages and other stuff . then exit and use OBD and look at live data. then you will see few PIDs and the fuel trims and the usual data same as any obd scanner. very strange. which makes me speculate, they use the same software on all these sub 600 scanners, just repackaged a little different sold under different name.
