@@Shinobi33 doesn't make the war about nationalism. There's a connection surely but it's more complicated than that. WW1 resulted in complete misery for Germany which THEN resulted in nationalistic ideas. I'm not saying Nationalism has absolutely nothing to do with the topic but the main causes for the war weren't of that kind. Also the assassination of Archduke of Austria was simply the event that started the war, not the longstanding reason behind it. It's like a bomb: the spark starts the explosion but someone had to put dynamite there in the first place.

    • @Shinobi33

@@s_lasgalen the war was absolutely about Nationalism. That's what stoked all the hatred for each other. A bunch of nations and people who had nothing in common but lived under the order and rule of these empires. Those uneasy alliances within these nations made it impossible for the uneasy alliances the empires had with other empires to work. So anything at all was gonna cause that tempest to explode over. The people forced great powers to fight each other. And since all ruling families were basically cousins (through centuries of inbreeding) they didn't want to fight, but had to. Sides were chosen as a way of surviving and holding on to whatever of their territories were left after the dust settled. Though there would be no going back to the old ways of dolling out land and ruling. Btw, the main catalyst of this was the industrial revolution
