- I was asked to video my rendition of this classic Eagles tune. I'm performing this in my music room as a form of practice so I can perform the song out on my gigs. playing in front of a video camera makes you do better than practicing to nobody. the pressure of getting it right on the first take.... I created the music on my Ensoniq ASR-10 sampling workstation keyboard. Drums, Bass, Electric Piano, B3 Organ. The harmony was programmed using a Digitech Vocalist Access harmonizer in Vocoder mode so I can play the notes I want it to harmonize. The song has been transposed down to D. Iused a set of 13-56 strings on my Stratocaster and lowered it 2 notes. Now I can sing the song and still play all the lead solos in the song. the music was plugged directly into my Canon AX10 Camcorder. Edited in Power Director 13.

thanks...yeah, i have 2 channels on youtube. this one "southpawjay" and a more studio style channel "leftyjaysmith" that has multiple cameras and direct audio line into the camera. better audio and a wide variety of music styles. thanks for the comments. Jay

are your background voices prerecorded, or are you using a voice harmony pedal while you're playing there?
no, i'm using a harmonizer, but its not following my guitar. it is sequenced into the song with midi notes. that way i dont have to turn it off and on all the time and it harmonizes only the notes i want it to. that way, the harmony can be very close to the original and can be very complicated if need be.

its all about the money. i've been a solo act for 30 years. i was in bands back in the 80s. gave them up in 1987 to do my solo act. i now play 200+ gigs a year on my own. dont miss the band scene at all.
