I strongly believe that the Mary Celeste suffered an explosion due to alcohol leaking from her cargo. Recreations have shown that ignition of alcohol fumes would have created a pressure wave that would have blown open hatches and terrified the crew into evacuating. But alcohol burns at such a low temperature that it wouldn't have been hot enough to burn anything but the alcohol fumes. You can see this yourself if you soak a dollar bill in alcohol and light it on fire, the dollar won't even singe. Also, a byproduct of hydrocarbon combustion is water, which explains why everything below decks was wet.

If I had to guess and I actually read that this is a good possible theory, they encountered a storm or some minor collision and thought the ship would sink so they abandoned it for safety reasons. Then while they were in the lifeboat, something happened and they got caught in a current that carried them away from the ship and weren't able to get back and eventually succumbed to the elements and starvation.

Would you do a video on the General Slocum? While we like to complain about the negligence of captain and bridge crew of the Costa Concordia and the Dona Paz, the General Slocum is also a cautionary tale about how human life is sacrificed when safety is ignored, and how corporations often get away with negligence when we, the ordinary citizens, pay the price. In my personal opinion, the negligence and disregard were staggering! Did you know that the General Slocum filled their lifejackets with sub-par cork and then, so the life jackets would reach the right weight, secretly slipped bits of iron into them. That was why many children died with the lifejackets! Not only did the cork fail to keep them afloat, but some of the lifejackets actually weighed them down.
Even the ship itself was not free from the consequences of corporate greed. After the accident, the General Slocum was refitted and made into a barge (renamed the Maryland). She sank in 1911 near New Jersey (Note: the ship "officially" sank after it sprang a leak and the captain of the tugboat pulling her cut the rope and let her sink. However, there are reports that the ship was unlucky as many accidents always seemed to happen with her, and there are rumors that the boat may have been deliberately sunk in order to collect the insurance money, as the ship was worth more as a wreck than as a floating vessel by that point. Not proven, of course, but it would not surprise me. Also of note, the three crewmen on the Maryland the night she sank were promptly rescued by the crew of the tugboat, which seems suspicious to me.)
I believe that NUMA continues to look for her but has yet to find her wreckage. They may be a good source if you want to know more information.

I've been reading online that people have claimed to have spotted a ghostly Titanic sailing into New York port with a large gash on the spot the iceberg hit. Another thing I read was German uboats firing on what they mistook for the Olyimpic only for it to vanish. Another report of people in a chopper flying over it and seeing the Titanic sinking with people on board who looked like Zombie in appearance. I dunno if there's enough material for a video but maybe you might have found it interesting as a Titanic fan.

It seems most likely to me that they all loaded into the tender and used the main halyard to tie themselves to the ship after the rea oak barrels leaked sufficient alcohol vapor into the hull for a small flash but big enough to blow the hatch off to the hold. They feared the hull was compromised due to malfunction in the pump and while in the lifeboat the rope got cut or parted and they drifted into oblivion. Lifeboats with bodies were not unheard of washing ashore all over the world back then as it was one of the most common outcomes to using lifeboats in the days before wireless, aircraft, and mass shipping. When looked at it that way i see little mystery.
Capt over reacted due to having his family there. No way the crew would stay aboard a ship the capt thought might blow or sink while the capt and his family sail the only life boat away...hell, the crew may have stages a mutiny on this fact alone and splashed the good capt and his family and not have the seamanship ability to navigate. They did think they were closer to land than they were i have heard according to the ships log or something.....
But the media of the time sensationalized it

Salutations, and 'kudos', Sam😊! Another maritime, documentary, well done (well, at least half, so far)!! Just a question, and a suggestion, sir. On describing the "MARY CELESTE", you labeled her (I used the term her, since things like ships, and of beauty, are decreed, a 'her'), a 'brigantine'. I was always led to believe, a brigantine, like a 'bark', had to possess 3-4, masts, while schooner's have 2-3, masts (I know the sail placements, on the mizzenmasts, and square sails on it, denotes barks/brigantines' descriptions, too). Am I correct, on this? Also, wouldn't it be more 'apropos', if your background, monitor's image (during you're podcasts), would match what the present subject discussed, I.e., instead of Titanic's, all the time?
