"You just have to learn not to say oops. I say hmmm." I love it.

Thank you, Cass for all you did to help us not destroy the look of our trees and shrubs. Your expertise and humor will be missed.

I found Cass today and listened to all 6 videos on tree pruning...totally captivated. She does a great job explaining. I don’t know what it is about trees but unlike most, I have great reverence for them.

There’s an old saying, “friendly furs and spiky spruces”. Furs aren’t hard on the hands much at all.

Well done. I'll use this advice to save my "wild child" growing beside the old house I just bought. Thanks!

2:38 so true. Knowing nothing about the unique behavior of evergreen conifers and junipers 5 years ago we radically trimmed our juniper hedge. 😝
So unsightly! The old wood never grows back and hundreds of dead brown small undergrowth branches. Having to turn them into pretty bonsais.

We had lovely big Conifers next to our garden. Wonderful windbreak. They gave us clean air. Homed the birds all year round. And helped keep heating costs down. They stopped our garden getting boggy. Sadly, one tree fell down due to strong winds a few blocks up from us so all the neighbours panicked. Next thing we know is that all the lovely conifers are being cut down to stumps. So sad. I used to love our garden. We adored the privacy and natural look of our garden and the nature that came with it.
So much for the Great Reset. It's a joke.
Our daughter wrote a Lockdown Robin song. The Robins and Blackbirds used to nest in our garden. 😢

Thank you so much for the lesson. I wish I found your video earlier! I cut my cypress one side all the way back to the trunk 5 months ago because it overgrew to my driveway. I thought it would grows back. However, there is no sign of new grow in the last 5 months. It looks so horrendous! I wonder if there is any chance new branches will grow out from the trunk again or simply my crime to the tree just can’t be fixed.

Unfortunately, conifers generally do not grow back the way a shrub or a houseplant would. If you are in the Seattle area we suggest you send an email to info@plantamnesty.org to be connected with some qualified arborists who can help you with your tree.

Thank you. Is the foliage necrosis caused by the shading?

pruning them helps exposed the bark and branching structure.

What about a Hollywood juniper? A friend insists I should prune out a few large branches. I refuse. Which is best?

Joe, every tree is different and we can't advise pruning for trees remotely. If you are in the Seattle area we suggest you send an email to info@plantamnesty.org to be connected with qualified arborists who can help you.

Hi Darren, I hope it is not too late! Please never "trim the top off" of any tree! To get the names of some qualified arborists (in the Seattle area) please email us at info@plantamnesty.org

I think if you don't mess with trees at all and just let them grow as intended then tree existance is in harmony...Man is the danger in all aspects of controllled life.

Mam.... you taught me sweet nothing. Poor dying conifer. You chose the wrong owner for yourself.
How on earth can we do to trees what we do to poor cancer patients.....not to expect cancer from a cancerous lifestyle and do nothing to change the cancerous lifestyle and living conditions?
