  • The all new 2018 BMW X3 M40i is the first X3 ever to get an ///M treatment, so it is as good on the road as it is on the track!

    Thank you for not playing music while on the track. You'd be surprised how folks ruin a good car video with music

      Yeah, the whole point was to allow you to hear everything :)

    Looks great, sounds great, clearly performs well and still has good interior space. I'll be buying a new car towards the end of this year and this is definitely on my list. Nice review, thanks.

    I see that they set up the track to keep journalists from getting in over their heads - lots of chicanes set with cones. No doubt a good idea. Thanks for sharing a driving experience rather than a review of all the tech, not that that is not cool too.

    • @MotorPressReviews
      @MotorPressReviews  Před 4 lety

      Yes, they do vet journalists as some of them think they are F1 drivers and we all know how that ends :)
      Glad you liked the video. Thanks!

      @@MotorPressReviews Thanks! Btw I traded my E92 M3 Competition (that I drove in Europe for 3 years) for an X3M40i in January 2018. It fits my lifestyle here and I am less worried about a roadside licence suspension!

    I noticed that this X3 M40i does not have the iconic M-style steering wheel. Is there a reason for it?

    • @MotorPressReviews
      @MotorPressReviews  Před 6 lety +4

      +Marc D apparently there is a shortage in stock so the first cars are shipping with a non-M wheel.

      Thanks for letting me know. I was at a local dealership just now and they confirmed this as well. M-Steering wheel is projected to arrive Feb-Mar 2018. Cheers.

    Can’t decide between x3 m40 and glc 63 amg, I have so much headache when I think about price, space, performance, reliability, driving in snow and ice, maintenance costs

    • @MotorPressReviews
      @MotorPressReviews  Před 6 lety

      The GLC 63 AMG is much faster and perhaps more reliable, but the X3 M40i probably wins all the rest (as it’s not a truly fair comparison). I would also include the F-Pace in the comparison, that SVR version is something else!

    What is the color of this car? looks very nice, sometimes almost like black sometimes navy blue. Additional question if you have a choice between 540i xdrive and this x3 40im what car would you choose? Appreciate your answer.

    • @MotorPressReviews
      @MotorPressReviews  Před 6 lety

      Sorry don’t remember the exact color name... but between this and the 540i I would get the 5 hands down.

    This m40i is astonishing... wow! How does the xDrive technology compare to Quattro in winter conditions?

    • @MotorPressReviews
      @MotorPressReviews  Před 6 lety +1

      Everyone claims their AWD system is better, but my feeling is that xDrive is quicker to respond. Quattro (with Torsten diffs) is definitely more durable.

      Thanks for your input. They were supposed to update the xDrive a bit with the 2018 X3, that's why I was wondering.

    • @MotorPressReviews
      @MotorPressReviews  Před 6 lety +1

      Only major xDrive update was with the M5 and the 2WD mode :)
      But it’s true that every year they do minor improvements, especially in terms of reliability as the initial xDrive units had fragile transfer cases.

    Jason, BMW X3, Audi Q5 or the Caddy XT5? I know you drove all 3 of them , so I really value your opinion.

    • @MotorPressReviews
      @MotorPressReviews  Před 6 lety +5

      +Occams Razor The XT5 is the biggest one, it offers a much roomier cabin but can’t match the X3’s interior or driving dynamics. The Q5 is also very well made and offers good comfort levels but is also behind compared to the X3. My money would go to the X3, after all it is the newest one and they knew where the competition stood and made sure they beat them. However, if it is base engines you are looking at, I would also consider the GLC 300. Hope this helps.

      +Jason Jones this is a US car, so what you see is mph. Thanks!
