- So which is the best 40 HP outboard?
It’s a common question, and in this video from Boats.net, John will take you through the Yamaha 40 and the Honda 40 outboards.
Midrange horsepower outboards are extremely popular. They offer a lot of power relative to their cost, and they give you a lot of versatility as to how they’re used. But as a design proposition, an examination of the Honda 40HP vs the Yamaha 40HP will show those two motors are actually very similar. But we’ll guide you through the subtle differences that may give one an edge over the other for you when you’re deciding between a Yamaha 40 vs a Honda 40 outboard motor.

John you were just helping me do maintenance on my Goldwing! lol
The Honda 40 horsepower is lighter whether it has a tiller or remote control. Both versions of the Yamaha are heavier than the Honda with a similar configuration. Just a little bit. The fact that the Honda has tiny bit more displacement doesn't mean it has more power. They are both 40 horsepower motors. :-)
I just bought a nice tiller handle from you guys for my new F70 thank you
The guy basically says nothing other than that the Honda has a slightly larger displacement
honda power full engine
What is you opinion on 60hp Suzuki motors ?
Honda for the win
Honda baby. but ya true Yamaha is excellent from what I hear. Good video. Thank you!
Yamaha 50 hp 4 stok price
Appearance also makes a difference, Honda is much prettier :)
That’s why you go to the 60
The Honda’s are lighter
The Yamahas are better
I think ill take the honda over that yamaha
The 30 is a 40 and the 50 is a 70 so doesn't count
No entiendo nada
How about tohatsu? Bigger capacity and lighter than Yamaha
is it really lighter than Yamaha? I do like Tohatsu but since they're not very popular and pricey/
Arent 50hp+ tohatsu engines made from Honda?
@@Definitely_Someone no. 100% in house designs.
@@tanduong3224 remember Tohatsu comes with tons of stuff in the box... controls, gauges, prop, harness, toolkit and tank w. hose. I don't think the Yamaha or Honda do. Plus, these are going on small boats ... and yes, 10 lbs does make a difference in the long run!
@@Definitely_Someone I know Tohatsu makes a lot of motors for Mercury
I can't speak to the Yamaha but the 40 Honda has no torque and is all top end, hit a couple tiny waves and revs drop, an embarrassment of an engine from honda, tohatsu 40 is far better and has more torque
The Yamaha fifty has a ton of torque 1litre displacement
Yamaha 40 is better..long endurance..with more torque...really match a 23 ft Fibre glass
Too much pitch in your prop maybe because I’ve owned Hondas in the past and get the right prop on them and they’re no slouch anywhere from bottom end to top
I heard Honda Outboard motors are not near as reliable as a Yamaha they have a crankshaft issue overheating problems and different things like that
