Their 1972 tour was one of the best ever in my opinion; just coming off the release of Exile; they were on top of the world. They were tight...but loose, funky, raw, bluesy, aggressive and gentle. I love it when Mick and Keef share the mic and just bust those vocals out. Keef's voice even sounded great here; raw yet perfect for the songs. Rock and Roll and it's finest!!

Yes: "No one can replace you, you will always be the drummer for the Stones." But they have a competent professional playing drums there, chosen by Charlie himself, who has played with the band and has played with Keith Richards for a long time: and professional musicians, they play what needs to be played. You must respect the choice of the band and especially the great musician who is Steve Jordan. As for Watts' moral presence, this is another conversation. And the show has to go on.

    • @giancarloc1985
      @giancarloc1985 Před 2 lety +17

I totally get what you're saying and I have seen the Stones all the since I was a kid, in 1994. And I've seen Charlie many times, and I truly do miss him. But Steve Jordan was selected by Charlie himself, and Charlie and Steve were close friends. I saw the Stones again, twice, in Los Angeles on October 14th and October 17th, 2021 (one great ticket, one almost nose bleed ticket, but hey fine by me!). I also saw them in 2019 at the Rose Bowl (videos in my profile), and that was the last time I saw Charlie on stage.
And they still sound damn good. A bit different without Charlie, but still damn good. And I love Steve Jordan. Big shoes to fill, but it was Charlie's wish. And if they want to continue and have fun, I won't stop them. I do wish the tickets were a tad bit cheaper, but they are pretty comparable to other bands. I did score a lucky dip ticket for one show ($30 a ticket).
Oh, Mick, Keith and Ronnie were bouncing around the stage. Mick was walking backwards and running like crazy... while singing... I'm like wtf... I wish I'm in that good of shape when I'm 78.

Mick's the best the Stone's ever had...surely worthy of Keith, Bill, Ronnie, Charlie, Bobby, Chuck, and mighty Mick Jagger's respect. Wonderful footage of dear Charlie. The rock steady jazz drummer,...solid membrane percussion.. Artist. Intellectual. Well dressed and polite. Not so quick to smile... more often it was his Cheshire grin...but baby-wide when he did smile. He was rowdy as Bobby & Keith for a while but grew up. He lived in gratitude for the opportunities that he was able to catch, employ, and enjoy. He left the Stones, Rock culture, and our world better for his gifts. -Doug Pratt, Atlanta, Georgia, USA

I feel for the younger generation that never got to see the stones live in the 70s quite a few left that did see them in the 60s. Anaheim Stadium some girls both days hot hot hot. Kids don’t know what it’s like open stadium seating we took AMTRAK all the way to San Diego for the start me Up tour all the way from San Jose… I had my acoustic guitar I had already learned dozens and dozens of stone songs on the guitar after playing Oboe for 13 years. Open stadium seating we could go anywhere in the entire stadium from the front of the stage to the back of the stadium at the very top. But on Amtrak… They said get your guitar… We went to the bar car the observation car they bought me beers they entire trip and we smoked pot the entire time almost singing Beatles and the stones songs getting high and drinking beer… We can’t smoke pot on AMTRAK anymore :-) 2012 Oakland oracle one night after my dad passed. He was dying and he kept asking me are you going to the Rolling Stones concert? I said no dad I’m not leaving you alone. I was dead tired and I went toto Oakland and Mick Taylor guest starred on Midnight Rambler :-) he actually signed one of my lyric books when he played in Long Beach.

Did you ever make it to the Crawdaddy? Always wished to hear the stories from those hangin about
      ..Richmond ..TW9 1HU, United Kingdom..
Richmond, Surrey, England... The back room of the Station Hotel..
(Or stories from the corner of Royal Avenue and King's Road, Chelsea, London.. where The Chelsea Drug Store stood in 1968...)
In the beginning.. The Stones were the house band at the Crawdaddy.. the Yardbirds were next.. this would of been an incredible place to hang out.. Oldham had the keys to the USA and the world tours then.. The Whiskey in LA was another place I wish I'd been old enough to waste time in..
but.. The Beatles actually helped the Rolling Stones find a tune for their first hit.. Beatles were also responsible for encouraging Andrew Loog Oldham to check out the Stones.. The Beatles and the Stones were considerate to the other band about altering drop dates for albums so each band could capitalize on song releases successfully.. For me personally.. there is no deep competion in their musical styles.. the fans are the fans who carry hits to #1 and there's only room for 1... My needle is broken & choice is permanently stuck on The 😎Rolling Stones. 🖤💙. Thankful for the Beatles for sure.. but in all my years of loving Rock and Roll.. I've only bought "1" 45 rpm related to Beatles music and it had nothing to do with "early Beatles".. of course I watched the cartoon as a child.. Saturday morning animated television series featuring representations of the popular English rock band the Beatles. Originally broadcast from 1965 to 1969 on ABC in the U.S. (only 1965 to 1967 was first run; later seasons were repeats).
Opening theme: "Can't Buy Me Love" (season 1, full program); "Help!"... loved the Paul McCartney work too... but The Rolling Stones were like pirates to my soul.. that sound.. that showmanship.. that scene.. stole me.

But I gotta give the win still to the Get Yer Ya-Yas version. That was pretty much the ONLY song on that album that wasn't goosed up completely live on that recording, and it just kills.
I think the GYYYO version of Midnight Rambler is the gold standard by which all other versions are judged.

@@chilecayenne I loved the tempo on the GYYYO version and the ending was the best ever, but I always wondered if there weren’t production tricks that balanced out Mick’s and Keith’s guitars. Plus, GYYYO was the first version I heard and therefore the standard by which I measured all other versions. All the Stones’ live recordings rock so much harder than the studio versions. Yet I’ve never heard a live version of Satisfaction that I thought held a candle to the record. Keith couldn’t seem to replicate that distinctive guitar tone live.

The only front man with as much stamina to “maybe” give him a run for his money might be David Byrne of the Talking Heads. He doesn’t have his moves though and no one really does. If that song doesn’t make you want to move…then you are seriously flawed.

Reunion, dys family ...when I arrived in France at the age of 5, YOU ROLLING STONES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN PILARS to me. I had the immense happiness to see you on stage at the "Hypodrome d'Auteuil" in Paris, as a young teenager, well made up, I managed to get through the barriers, and stubbornly, after a good 2 hours I saw Mick at 2 meters from me. I was still afraid of men, but I felt that special something in my lower abdomen for the first time, so sexy was his body language. It never left me. @@terasasanders8155 Mick Jagger by his own account is something of a split personality - domesticated and passive while off-duty at home, and a driven dynamo while in working and performing mode. His is a unique personality that thrives on hard work, challenges and adversity. (He's also a greedy bastard and that turned Keith off.) But I doubt that Mick could ever permanently "retire" from his career. If The Stones ever call it a day (which they'll eventually do sooner or later), I'm sure that Mick will carry on as a performer in the business in one way or another. It's his life, and the arenaline rush of performing (and the love of making big money) which has kept him going for a lifetime. Some people can retire gracefully and it's the death of other people.
