- In this video, I create a metal ring clasp using woodworking.
It is the principle of sticking and pushing at one point by using the pushing and pulling principle of the N and S poles of a magnet.
I used walnut wood and neodymium magnets. - Jak na to + styl
that's pretty good... 9/10... not a fortune to be made in hasps, but if i had a hasp factory, i would definitely buy it from you...

I quite like this as a decorative latch. It wouldn't be strong enough for something like a toolbox lid where it has to carry a lot of weight, but it would be a nice touch on something larger that generally tries to stay closed on its own (like a blanket chest).

Sure it wood (ha!). It's not about the magnets at that point. if you used walnut or ash and made sure they were well-connected to the box and lid. It's the french cleat part that's doing the heavy lifting--no forces would pry the magnets apart. This would easily work on a light-to-medium tool box or a tackle box.

Interesting use of the repulsion/attraction difference at opposite poles of a magnet. Also important that you used rare Earth magnets, which are much stronger than iron-based magnets.

if you use it for closing something it can still open up a little bit since you have play build in for the up and over movement otherwise nice concept
