One of the life lessons from both you and The Car Care Nut is that we take aftermarket parts at our peril. Everything thing in an engine needs to be blueprinted and not taken for granted. Thank you Vera and Christian.
As an Australian I completely agree, but know of no engine builders as meticulous as Christian and Vera. Love that oil cap 🤣🤣
Yep, wish I could buy that from them, although the thinnest oil any one of my vehicles takes is 5w-40. That cap is still funny as hell.
Your dedication to doing it correctly is amazing, I doubt any professional engine rebuilder will go to the lengths you do. It’s such a delight to watch your videos and wait for the 😱omg’s. Good work guys.
I could not have said it better! You guys ROCK! Also, it's helpful to know that the "break point" on your videos is when things approach the "Divorce Threshold". 😆
Another awesome installation of LR Time with the usual comedy and fabulous engineering. I'm sure that the engine will be better than when it left the factory.
Great work Christian & Vera 👏
Thanks guys.
Another educational Sunday morning. 😁
This is going to be a brilliant series, well thought out and broken down into bite size chunks.
Talking of food 😂
I've never known anyone go into so much detail as Christian, so much information be it a Land Rover or any other type of vehicle except Toyota 🤣
I’ll predict that from now, this engine will be the longest lasting LR SDV6 engine in existence.
Such a shame LR/Ford couldn’t have built it at their factory that way to do that.
But then we wouldn’t be able to enjoy ourselves every Sunday watching It’s LR Time, or taking a count of how many “Oh my God” statements there are each week.
Very, very well done the both of you!
Perfection in your work, does allow the odd expletive.
Meanwhile, the rest of us poor souls rely on luck that our own TDV6/SDV6’s keep going without the such tender care that you two provide.
PS: I’m sure the expletives used when ours no longer keep going will be somewhat stronger than “Oh my God!”
I'm pretty sure this same engine is now in the new Ford Ranger and VW Amarok V6 diesels ... Why they didn't go with the tried and tested VW V6 diesel is mind boggling
@@Jorrie86 It's not the "same". There are a number of changes if you google.
And it's not strange why they didn't use the VW v6. Ford developed the new ranger/amarok in the same way that VW beveloped the EV platform for some ford products.
Same with connect/caddy and transit custom/transporter.
Vera.....I think I need to start drinking now 😂nice to see it all coming together and that you are both still together 😮👍
James May once joked that the Rolls Royce drophead body gets sent to it's adoptive parents in Germany. The factory it gets sent to is called The Aluminium Centre of Competence. Goes to say 'I am not making it up, they German.
This video is still the highlight of my week! The only problem is they need to be longer, like Cutting Edge Engineering! 😁😉🇦🇺. And yes, everything is upside down here! 😂
love Cutting Edge too
I just can't see the mass production line being this clinical. Bravo for doing a proper job. I can see Toyota trying to headhunt you guys lol
“How can you glue yourself to the road when something like this exists” 🤣 Christian wins the internet tonight
😊 For some time, I've been thinking that the charming Vera (she who is behind the camera) might, in fact, also be an engineer....to paraphrase the old saying: "Behind every clever man is an even more clever woman..." Christian seems to be aware of this... 😊🤔 Thanks you two for another entertaining video......
Amazing workmanship! Land Rover should be watching this and learning or just change the writing on the oil cap to 5w 30 Dumbass 🤣🤣 love this channel !!
I feel I should say this was 0.0745 pleasure to watch, well within 0.0698 to 0.0799 tolerance limits. I think your German precision is getting to me...
lol cheechee you have to have german mentality, capice?
I have only one complaint. It is a big one and I am sure evryone will agree. I want more!!!! The video ends and I feel deflated. Your videos are such an inspiration. Both of you should be so proud of your acheivements. This is a very specialized topic and you have all of us hooked like baby chicks waiting for their next feed form mum! Well done and see you next Sunday!!
I agree
I call them the professors lectures and theories is spot on
Are they both mechanical engineers? Love these ❤❤❤❤❤
"How can you glue yourself to the road when something like this exists" had me in stitches. Great video again. It's Saturday, I hope you're having a nice evening and are not still editing the next video.
This channel just gets better and better. Fabulous attention to detail is the hallmark of excellence in Engineering!
I had to rush to my Laptop to check if the Video had been uploaded yet. As usual very educative and entertaining.
Thanks, guys.
My conclusion From all this; engine rebuilds are for the gods. We, mere mortals, can only watch with awe!
Until next Sunday.
😂 thanks. Christian
Essential viewing. I reckon the best so far. Vera, continue keeping him on a short leash.
One can only admire Christian's thoroughness and wish we could all have such attention to details when sending rebuilds out. BTW, Instead of WD-40 I use a product called ACF50. Also very effective lubricant when exposed to salty conditions, such as road salt here in Canada.
You guys are the just the best! And thank Gott you are still married. Amazing!
You remind me of what my dad always said. There are two ways to do things, the English way and the correct way.
Found your channel by accident, love the content, humour and banter, keep it up….. 🤣👍🏻
great stuff to answer Vera's lack of a milling machine is a vice & file and piston protrusion is called "Deck Height"
I can't believe how silent that motor is when running🤣🤣🤣 Hello from down under.
My wife is always listening in the background and just loves all your playful comments!!
Aaah, feel better now after my Sunday morning fix of LR Time
Oh My God! It's LR Time again! Brilliant! Best channel on CZcams!
The funny thing is. You’ll forget all this frustration and pain when you’re driving your beautiful LR4 with the smoothest diesel engine in any LR4 on the road. On your way to your 2nd honeymoon 😅😂🎉
Christian and the lovely Vera, I found your site a little while ago and I am enjoying it so much. So much to work on with Land Rovers. I am waiting now for you to show us how to install Toyota mechanicals in the Land Rover and be done with it. Cheers
Watching these most recent videos makes me wonder about doing a local short machinist course just to get the basics - of measurement for instance. We were a woodworking family growing up so I know a thing or two about that but working with metal is a very different thing!
I just love this channel so much to learn and so much to listen to so thank you and thanks for the video
Entertaining and educational...these videos should form part of the syllabus for mech. eng. students.
At the time of this comment, your "likes to views" ratio is about 10%, this is good.
Really interesting as I'm certainly no mechanic and don't know nothing about vehicles but really enjoy your video
Good Sunday morning another great video to look at 👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥😮😮😮
Great Work Team LR Time! Your knowledge and commitment to precision and accuracy is so impressive. Thank you and best wishes.
Another fascinating & very enjoyable episode, felt like 10mins long , my daughter thinks Christian looks like someone from a famous tv series, I will give you a clue , his first name is Walter, the vauum cleaner guy must have given you a new identity 🤣👍☘️
It's great fun listening to you two , have a fabulous week, can't wait for next weekend , tchussie
well team, here s how you make a real ring and piston fitting tool, we did it this way at Cummins, we used an old liner though
all you do is take a steel tube, bore it 1.5 or say 6 thou bigger than the piston skirt then you need a wall thickness of 4 mm up, any size is ok, then using your compound on the lathe cut a lead in taper one end , shallow taper, cut the length say 100mm, then fit your rings and slide the assembly into the tube, the rings will gradually go past the taper and then put the tube on the block, the skirt will be protruding, enter it into the block and tap it down as you did, easy!! use a 20 kg hammer🐶 taper must be slow, I would send you a dwg but where to
Ah coffee time....still the best on you tube....👍☕
Holy sh*t. You left me speechless. So .much to be considered, when putting together an engine like this. The next owner of this engine/car will be so lucky. Well done.👍
We have to wait until it runs. 😬 Who knows what will happen. Christian
There is no micrometer capable of measuring a wife's patience. It is always only a gut feeling. Getting it wrong even once, effects all subsequent measurements. Being to obvious in your attempt to measure it, will also effect the current measurement. The wife expects you to know how much patience is left instinctively. A clear indicator of a wife losing patience is her using the the word "Fine" in any context or in your case the German equivalent. That is a "Down tools" moment. As always great and informative video.
every day is a learning day, thank you guys.
It’s just like going back to school, well worth it thanks guys 👍👏❤️
Don’t forget to buy a new timing chain set, it will have taken stress it’s not a Toyota thank you both for your light hearted and thoughtful videos
I do hope you know that we know that. 😅🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian well you didn’t before and said it would be ok, but I don’t believe it would be ok but then again maybe a new one might be inferior and now I don’t know what to do … “my god” it’s like Russian roulette with parts. Lol
@@collector1946 Timing belt will be covered in a later video, when the engine gets assembled, as it is not a part of the short block. Also we explained and will explain again during the rebuild which parts we change and wich we don't. 👍🙋♀Vera
Schönen Sontag Vera & Christian. I’ve no words that can say how much I’ve enjoyed this video 😊Hopefully Vera enjoyed the party 🎉 lol 😆 Until next Sunday stay safe big kiss 😘 for Vera for her excellent videoing and keeping you in check Christian lol 😆
OMG, Sunday only comes once a week. Another great episode. Wera is an Angel for going so long without sustenance.
You two are fantastic !!!!!!!
These issues definitely highlight the potential for failure with aftermarket parts. Not that I am likely to attempt this 😂 fab video as always. Nigel
Very smooth, excellent job as always
Great video as always
Great. Very entertaining and perfectly engineered as alway. Christian, I think you should invest in a quick release vice, 😂
Christian turning the crankshaft over by hand, those will be the most reliable revolutions that TDV6 will ever turn ….OMG 😂
And maybe the only ones 😬 Christian
@@Vera_and_Christian never! it will be superb 😉👍🏻😎
I appreciate your video because of how much I learn, it has helped me with my work and my personal life.
Like how not to piss off your wife!
😅👍🙋♀️Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian I though you might appreciate that one Vera!
Very impressive & thorough work.
Somehow I cannot see many garages doing half of this work if they are rebuilding an engine just buy new parts and assume that they are correct to fit at least with yours if something goes wrong in future you will not have to worry about the engine.
"I think I need to start drinking right now"😂😂😂😂😂
Oh my god! Such German perfection!
Fantastic once again, stopped going to church so I can catch up on your program keep up the good work guys girls
Above and Beyond religion !
Superb quality as usual guy's . That engine will be better than anything JLR ever built .
It’s still got the standard crankshaft in it, which caused the problem in the first place.
The blue box of death, Shit Part, they didn’t get that name easily, just a shame Bearmach went down the tube. Keep up the cracking work👍🏻
I want a video of you guys just saying `debacle` the whole video, I think it would break the internet 😂
Oh, there will hopefully a video like that, with a differnt word, out soon. 😀👍🙋♀️
OMG brilliant ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent video really look forward to seeing your videos every week.
When driving in the uk and I see a discovery I think 🤔 I wonder how much longer I will be running for 😂
I think 🤔 „does it run on the first engine?“. Christian
Thank you guys, lm always impressed with your workmanship very entertaining
torque to rotate with pistons installed 10-11 Nm....?
German perfection!😃😉👍
Wow guy’s ❤
Never in the history of garages or workshops (or the factory) will such attention to detail be gone into rebuilding a TDV6 we salute you C&V 🫡🫡 … please don’t get divorced 🙏🏻😂
That engine will be so smooth and quiet that those adhered to the asphalt won't hear you coming until you've driven right over them :)
Great vid guys your dedication to checking is unbelievable ! I'm a mechanic and just didn't follow through with your dedication 😢 luv your banter with vera she is a one of a kind, excellent commentary as usual looking forward to next Sunday cheers and thankyou
Greeting,from Croatia :)
"I think I need to start drinking now" 😂
Nice work, good attention to detail, great progress Christian, it'll be a good one.
Toyota Owner Here, Need some advice .... sold our 2013 Toyota Prado after 300,000km (no issues) and purchased a 1 Owner RR sport 2013 SDV6 100,000Km (full service history) immediately had the following done as a precaution 1. Turbo Drain Mod 2. ZF transmission sump upgrade 3. Full Service 4. Transfer / Gearbox and Diff oils done. The RR runs so well so comfortable and is perfect for my wife when towing her horse float as it self levels, fuel economy 7.3l per 100km highway and 13-14l per 100km when towing sometimes less depending on terrain. We are aware of the intake manifold splitting potential and as such we never over work the car and try and keep our RPM's 2300 and below we never exceed 100km/per hr.
# Issue I have is my wife can drive anywhere from 3-8 hrs to get to an event (towing the horse float) on her own and I worry about the manifold splitting and or worse the crankshaft going and or the bearing/oiling issue
I really want to stay in the LR family as the ride quality, engine performance, fuel enconomy, self levelling and the seats and seating position or excellent.
Do I keep the RR sport and continue 10k servicing 5w40 oil and continue to drive cautiously and hope or sell it and purchase a SDV8 as I believe they do not have these issues ? correct me if i'm wrong.
The SDV8 is not available in a Discovery. Sad but true. You can run 5w40. Yes you have a risk of a engine failure with the 3.0 6 cyl. Diesel but it’s only 3% of the engines failing. This is a lot compared to a Toyota but unlikely to own ones. Christian
Thank you.
How to build a engine properly, love the totally methodical approach 😊
Wow some great work and your man cave is an amazing place with all those tools, this will be another great running engine cant wait for it to be fired up. Shame on those companies selling parts out of spec or not finished right.
An absolute delight to watch you two work, as always. Greetings from Bucharest!
Great video again, thank you
I thought you meant "divorce" pistons from cylinder head then OMG you meant Vera!
Fabulous video - thankyou
There’s differing views online about Brit part quality…you would assume the con rod would work/fit without modifying it
Oh my god? I'm hungry 😂😂😂😂
Us Australians have a secret how we do everything on our heads. we drive Toyotas. I once had a Series 2a SWB diesel LR. One per life is enough.
Absolutely amazing love your attention to detail! Thank you C & V
fantastic channel . Great Toyota humour
Btw the engine rebuild is really interesting and I can't wait to see it start up again 👍🏻👍🏻
Well, we hope it fires up. Never know. This thing is darn complex and I got a M6 flat nut left over 😳🙄. Christian
Superb engineering. Looking forward to you installing the engine into the Disco. Keep up the great work Christian and Vera.
The very Best !, thankyou guys
Fantastic content as always.. and great attention to the details.. I look forward to following the remainder of this build and seeing the D4 up and running again 👍🏻
Incredible work. Amazing skill. Far beyond anything that I could do.
A very entertaining video guys, again 😀. I hope Vera gives her toothbrush a good clean afterwards.... That engine is coming along brilliantly, looking forward to next week. Take care 👍🇬🇧
C'est magique et magnifique avec Christian et vera bravo😊
It's good you don't have a cat in your workshop. A single built-in cat hair could possibly destoy a tdv6😅
Love it...
Legends..
Nice video, looking forward to next Sunday 😂
