  • Mixing vampire humor and 1970s tropes (like pet rocks, lava lamps, disco music, bell-bottom pants, mirror balls, and of course mood rings), the web series Grave Mood Rings pokes fast fun at classic slow-moving Gothic soap operas like Dark Shadows and the Canadian series Strange Paradise. In addition to a vampiric Viscount, a castle is home to a groovy Doctor (a phlebotomist, naturally), a jolly housekeeper with her own laugh track, a werewolf Vicar, and an arch-nemesis riddler wearing a Sphinx mask. Corny wordplay, the occasional bizarre sing-a-long, and haunted doughnuts punctuate the proceedings, in the tradition of the sketch comedy of MadTV, Kids in the Hall, and SCTV.

    When I finally get around to time traveling to the 1970s, I plan to hire Dr. Macaulovich as my guide.

      He's available and would be thrilled to accompany you throughout the decade.

    I'm glad I know Dr. Macaulovich's background now. I don't know if it helps me understand what's happening, but I'm glad I know.

      Hahahah! I know, right?! Couldn't resist the Charlie's Angels spoof for that voiceover. We'll eventually learn the housekeeper's heartbreaking background as to why she's at Vitchmik Hall. (Well, as heartbreaking as Grave Mood Rings gets.) 🤪 🧛🏻‍♂️

    I didn't even notice the Disco necklace before. Wonderful detail. And I'm not sure if the shirt is giving off psychedelic vibes but I'm slowly starting to want a shirt like that. 😀

      I think that shirt *is* giving off psychedelic vibes, for sure! 😻

    It's very experimental kind of expression, but very interesting

      We do keep experimenting to keep our comedic critique of 1970s styles and motifs as "fresh" as possible.🤪

    The plot thickens, or do I mean the blood clot coagulates? Seriously, though transplant everything but her mood ring finger? Wha? Please tell me it's her middle finger... Which is arguably funnier.

    • @ProfessorOddfellow
      @ProfessorOddfellow  Před 2 měsíci +1

      You're right that the middle finger is funnier, and I verified it. Though there were only two Gogol results about which finger is funniest, Maddox affirmed: "The middle finger is the funniest finger, followed by the pinky and thumb in that order. There's nothing funny about the index finger. Ring finger is kind of funny if you flip someone off with it as a prank."

      @@ProfessorOddfellow I was thinking about this some more. So the Viscount is looking for what amounts to a whole body transplant for the Viscountess save for her mood ring finger. Wouldn't it be easier to transplant the mood ring finger. Assuming he can find a suitable person to adorn with her ring and finger, that is.

      Your logic is indeed solid, but here's the thing. Consider the classic paradox involving a hammer. A hammer's wooden handle gets replaced, and it's still considered the same hammer, in a restored condition. Then later, the hammer's iron head gets replaced, and it's still considered the same hammer, even though it's now all new parts. But just switching it for a totally new hammer in the first place would mean it wasn't the same hammer. This happens with the Shinto shrines in Japan, too. Over the decades, they keep getting refurbished, and eventually every single part of the shrine gets replaced, but it's still considered the same shrine and is still dated to its original construction. Though replacing a single finger on a new Viscountess would absolutely speed the process along and seemingly be equivalent to replacing all parts but one finger, somehow she just wouldn't be the same. Having said all that, we'll run by the Viscount the possibility of finding a new Viscountess in need of a new mood ring finger, and we'll see if he "bites" (if you'll pardon the irresistible pun).

      @@ProfessorOddfellow The resolution to this conundrum will gnaw at me for a while. Oh wait, I'm not a nail-biter.
