    Sony sounds like its a speaker from a studio, clean and atmospheric, while JBL is a party speaker, powerful and sharp... both are magnificent in their ways, my preference is Sony because i listen techno so the clean sound is most important

      I love techno as well, I would think that JBL would put it out better than the Sony though, I know it depends on preferences but for that music...oh hell, I'd love to listen to it cranked up on either speaker LOL. I love both brands, I would have to hear it in person to truly decide (I did use headphones while listening), also how strong is the bass/punch when turned up louder, especially with low end bass, that makes a big difference for me...the power, if it starts to clap out, not for me. Even if it isn't as loud as long as it is a nice clean punch, I'm ok with that.

      No, IMO most of Sony's portable speakers miss a ton of the deep bass, i hoped they would get closer to JBL's with this generation, i really did.. but unfortunately they didn't
      otherwise they're kinda nice but they miss the low end extension
      like i've compared my Onyx Studio 5 and Boombox 2 to the SRS-XB43 and really missed the deep bass, it's Sony's weak spot
      it doesn't seem like they've improved it at all with this generation
      if you think studio speakers don't play deep(er) bass clearly you haven't heard the Presonus Sceptre S8's, Dynaudio BM15's etc
      with a sub they're even more insane while remaining flat and controlled
      but yeah Sony's speakers still lack a lot
      i'd also hope to see them switch to dome tweeters instead of crappy paper cone tweeters one day

    • @BH4x0r

      @@derekjolly9815 Then the JBL defo is better, i wish they would make a larger and more powerful portable speaker under the Harman Kardon brand
      the Onyx Studio 5 & 6 don't sound to much different compared to the Boombox 2 except its cleaner and more controlled
      the Boombox 2 also sounds good imo except it has a kinda V shaped EQ on the mids, still much less worse than older JBL portable speakers IMO

I feel, SONY focus on balancing sound quality and while JBL focus on their deep bass. If I wanna listen to sound quality songs, I use SONY, while for song with deep bass, I use JBL. I love them both. In my opinion JBL has always sounded more natural than Sony. Sony always has a sound that kind of sounds like it has a blanket over it or something. Clarity is definitely more refined for JBL. The bass is also just more deep and really natural. But things like this are completely on opinion. People have preferences and you can't say anything against them.

    Very nice video, Willington! Plz be aware that where I live (Europe) the JBL costs about 180 bucks more than the Sony 700, which you can get for 350 Euro. The comparison is therefore a bit invalid, the Sony 700 should be compared to the similarly prices JBL 110 (330 Euro).
    Anyways, even when compared to one another - despite the price difference - I like the the Sony better regarding signal fidelity, frequency response, low distortion, impulse fidelity, balance, instrument separation, localization of the signals, stereo imaging, etc.
    The JBL is all pushed mids and bass frequencies. With this comes high distortion in those frequency areas. I find that very fatiguing. Yes, it‘s very „in your face“ and „party-able“, but this has nithing to do with sound quality.
    With the Sony you can counteract the V shape and EQ the mids in to bring vocals etc. more to the front. After that the Sony will play any music style just beautifully… jazz, pop, rock, R&B, you name it. Sounds all great on the XP700. All that won‘t sound as good on the JBL which is more or less a one trick pony (party sound in your face no matter the cost).
    Compared to the JBL Partybox 110 the Sony XP700 is even clearer the winner, it‘s simply better in every aspect. Plus has better battery life. Plus EQ.

  • @SSJfraz
    @SSJfraz Před 2 lety +56

    The JBL has a more forward sounding midrange, but the upper midrange could get a bit fatiguing after a while. Where as the Sony has a more V shaped sound signature with a more noticeable roll off in the high frequencies. Both speakers could benefit with additional midrange and treble controls.

    • @JustEnjoyingLife73
      @JustEnjoyingLife73 Před rokem +2

      Actually, the midrange of the 310 is already recessed compared to the 300, and I actually prefer the way the 300 sounds. It's much clearer. But the 310 has more bass, and I like bass more. Also, with the JBL, you can access a 3-band EQ in the app, so if you want to turn down the midrange, you can do that.

    Sound balance, clarity & separation are far better in Sony than that in Jbl.
    Jbl's sound signature is kind of jumbled & instrumental sounds are not separated enough.
    If both speakers are plugged in, the sound test will be justified as Sony tends to optimise its battery life rather than bass & overall loudness while being unplugged.
    Jbl is strong in case of bass only. But Jbl has 2 levels for bass boosting whereas Sony has megabass & sony music centre app for bass boosting.
    So, in maximum sections including price, Sony beats jbl easily.
    Jbl is only better than Sony for portability only.
    I hope Bass of Sony will equal if it's plugged in, megabass is turned on & bass is increased through Sony app.

    each brand has brought up their own unique style.
    The SONY in my opinion in this video at 40% volume has a bit more clarity and brilliance to its sound compared to JBL. they are using their own xbass sound signature thats why in lower bass, its not gonna compete well with JBL
    JBL has some deep bass I love, an easy trolly handle to carry the speaker around, speaker tripod feature. Its sad that they removed the 3rd tweeter like on the PB300.
    We'll see soon how they perform on higher volume outdoors on Willington's next video

    Picked mine up on Prime day. Looks good and has sounded great everywhere I have placed it. It won't be the loudest speaker out there, but excellent value at this price point. I put it in my living room and have had it up to 65% and was loud without being too loud. We could still converse and enjoy the music.

    I think the JBL Party Box sounds better and slightly brighter. The bass sounded more punchy. I prefer the JBL Party Box 310. Thank you for making the comparison cause now I know which one I want to buy.

    It would be nice to illustrate graphically the frequency roll off and natural reference setting as in flat frequency response. Not everybody that buys a boom box buy it for banging sounds. A boom box of the past Sharp GF-777 had all the banging ability but was lowsey on flat frequency response. Where as my Aiwa TPR-990 sounded superb .!
    An all round performer is what would be the greater attraction with sophisticated amplification behind the speaker. Not just to Bang the daylights out of the bigger cone and take it as it’s comes at the top end.

    Sony has done a good job of improving the vocal clarity. Now the jbl 310 sounds muffled. And I think its not impossible that sony will improve bass performance in the future to make it on par with jbl or even better! Whatever people say but sony is always my number 1 favourite

    • @aftertaste1937
      @aftertaste1937 Před 2 lety +2

      I think it's the actual opposite of that. The sony sounds really muffled compared to the partybox 310. It's such a relief when the jbl starts playing after the sony

    Nice, can't Wait to hear them at 100%. Maybe Sony is louder due to higer rolloff in bass. Sony xb90 was a crappy speaker but it could play very loud not using power playing deep bass. Hopefully there is a eq on this new Sony also, so looks promising 🙂👍🏻

      The thing is, it's got bass, but it's more boomy and muddy than anything close to a good sounding sub, but some people like that better. The Sony on the other hand has no sub bass even on boost but sound cleaner for the higher bass it can play.

    I currently own a Sony XP700 and I'd like to share my opinion, which might be helpful for potential buyers. Even though the speaker offers impressive sound quality and solid construction, I unfortunately experienced an issue with background noise that significantly diminished my overall satisfaction with the product. This was particularly true for the tweeters and when a microphone was connected. I contacted Sony's service center hoping for a quick repair or replacement, but the response I received was astonishing - I was informed that such noise was normal for this model. The service process turned out to be more complicated and time-consuming than expected, and my experience with the service wasn't as positive as I had hoped. For anyone considering the purchase of the XP700, I would advise thoroughly checking other users' reviews and making sure that potential technical issues and after-sales service won't be a problem for you. Despite these challenges, the speaker has its strengths, but it's important to be aware of possible inconveniences.

    Sony should've try to make their speakers response to lower frequencies like 35hz cuz 35hz is deep bass and for me the sony looks better than the jbl it looks more lighter to bring on-the-go than the jbl

    Sony's vocal is more clearer and the bass is nice too in my ear, it doesn't hurt when I listen in my jbl earphone
    But
    JBL on the other hand is not good when listening in low volume it sounds muffled the bass is normal but when you turn on the bass effect it's shows more aggressive than Sony's mega bass...
    Verdict I like the JBL aggressive bass than Sony's. The Sony should try to level up mode to make even against JBL, be aggressive 😸
