Doom 3’s Plasma Gun has to be one of the most satisfying sounds in the Doom franchise. I’m glad its reload sound was used in Doom 2016 for the Gauss Cannon when a weapon mod is being loaded.
I actually like Doom 1/2 iconic Plasma Gun sound. It sounds more unique and satisfying than the other ones. Shame they didn't revive the old sound to newer games and at least didn't improve it and chose some oversimplified crappy sounds.
Edit: I changed my mind. The OG Doom's plasma gun sound is still my favorite one because it's the most loud and interesting plasma gun audio, but today I wouldn't write a comment complaining about the modern Doom games not having my favorite sound like a fucking boomer
@@fogfatigue4980 If you have Deluxe Edition of Doom Eternal you are in luck, as you can enable classic Doom weapon sounds in the game and rejoice!

So glad i am not the only one who thinks that. Its great to see the Eternal one refers back to Doom 1/2 one but yea Doom 3 just nails it and i always felt that 2016 had the most underwhelming sound to it.
it is a detail but certainly important one to take a note of.

I'm really glad for eternal they went back to the old design, it looks so much more unique and interesting the generic looking laser gun design

@@mgspatheticchannel1496 well that's not entirely true. I heavily rely on it, and use for all kinds of ssg combos, and it has a flaming grapple hook to get more armor bc enemy's are on fire.

The SSG in DOOM Eternal is a monstrosity of a weapon, the meatshield is absurd and the gun itself is VERY good
The OG plasma gun is still the best, even decades later...

With the honorable mentions we kinda got a comparison with the project brutality doom vs doom video you did a while back so I'm not disappointed with that
Doom 2016 plasmagun is the most beatiful. Doom 3 plasmagun has the cool reloading animation and sound.
Doom 3's sound is the best. Doom 2016's is disappointing in comparison.
The original is still the best, although the one in doom eternal with quad dmg is really nice.

The Doom64 p-rifle kinda looks like the original p-rifle with the outer shell broken off. Maybe makes sense if it's in the old Phobos base left abandoned for decades.
Doom 1/2 plasma gun all the way! I remember first getting the plasma gun in Doom 3, then spending a whole day modding the game to bring back the FRRWUAAH!

Project Brutality has redesigned it's M1 Plasma Rifle again, with new sprites and all. Most of the animations are similar but the respect animation is new. It will also have an ammo counter in the next version

Hey the doom eternal for doom 2 mod that you review a few month ago got update,but I heard it's not latest but the weapons mod has work properly now (meathook, chaingun shield, microwave beam now attach to enemies and new sprites!)
Small point to add, the random pitch changing in the doom 1/2 plasma rifle is not there in the original release and was an unfinished feature that was intentionally left broken as it Devs thought it sounded bad. It was later reimplemented in ports.

Sadly, nothing beats the OG! All the versions after it are lacking that upside slope from low to high "lift" sound effect the OG has. I don't get why they didnt implement it in a modern way. It makes it such a unique sound effect.

The Doom 64 version use the same sound effects (as well as the epic dark music style by Aubrey Hodges) from Final Doom for the PlayStation (or PSX if you will).
I love the classic version of the Plasma Rifle from Doom Eternal. Is like bringing along a good old fella from the past, but make it more badass in the modern times.
I like the Doom 64 and 3 plasma gun sounds.
Original's rapid fire would bring the pc I had at the time to a crawl. That alone was motivation to upgrade hardware. Smooth incredibly fast plasma with that unrivaled sound effect. It meant business. Way more in your face and aggro than the subdued graphics and sound that came after it.

I really miss the Plasma Gun of Original Doom... Not only it looks cooler, but it is more useful and powerful than the weak useless one in Doom Eternal. It is now the most outclassed weapon in Doom Eternal. How I Wish They will buff the damage albeit of Plasma Rifle In DE to make it more useful.

@@eradicatormkivgaming I heard that and felt happier when they will overhaul the full auto shotgun. Now hopefully Plasma Rifle Section comes for the next buff. Seriously,I never did touch that weapon ever since unlike in OG Doom. So atleast a buff must do justice to my pal Plasma Gun.
Plasma Rifle is supposed to your general spraying weapon. It really doesn’t take much to stagger a Hell Knight. Plus, it’s the only weapon that effectively destroys Shotgun Soldier or Carcass shields. The Heat Blast mod is a good emergency backup when you’re surrounded by Fodder or lower health Heavies like Carcasses and Prowlers. Microwave is a good combo weapon and stun weapon, use it to quickly stop an attacking enemy and kill said enemy after a heavy damaging combo to make them explode and falter or kill nearby enemies, the Mastery Upgrade increases the radius for Faltering heavily.
The Plasma Rifle has it’s own uses that make it a better alternative over others but also has its own drawbacks as to not be the sole gun of choice

Rocket Detonation/SB Is A Far Better Crowd Control without the need to charge the slot unlike the Heatblast.
Ice Bombs Are a better way to stun or should I say freeze a group of enemies unlike the Microwave Beams crappy stun. Microwave Beam is just for gimmicks nothing else (Only for disintegrating The Spirits Is its purpose)
And In Terms of Weapon Combos too, it is the most impractical use due to its weak DPS. (Have you even seen alot of Great Doom Players touching the PR? No. Its only been used for killing Spirits)
So What Im saying is in other words, give the plasma rifle a buff with a drawback of costing much more ammo. The Plasma Rifle right now felt like a forced weapon, which means its only use is for killing shield guys and its mods pales in comparison to other weapon mods/equipments.
@@HobeyDator You can use the Microwave Beam to see how much hp enemies have. Even if you use it for a milisecond on an enemy, it stuns it.

The Doom 3 plasma gun has the best design and by far the best sound.
The Doom 2016 has great design but a weak, unsatisfying sound.
Doom Eternal's design is... let's just say sometimes an original design is best left forgotten. Just an ugly square tube, not a slick, cool looking plasma gun. It's sound in Eternal is average.
