VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 25. 06. 2021
- Welcome to 'EAVY CONTRAST, a series where I will try to paint miniatures
as close as possible (to the best of my ability) to the 'Eavy Metal
paint jobs using Contrast Paints and Highlights.
And in this episode I paint one of the most beautiful minis GW has ever made, Prince Duvalle from the Crimson Court!
Let's get cracking!

I loved that intro. I thought it was going to be really hard to get out of it but it turned out to be super easy, barely an inconvenience.
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW
WOW
đ
Beautiful creation! Laughed so hard at âWoopsieâ đđđđŒ
I would like to take credit for the hilariousness but I can't. Gonwatch the Pitch Meeting videos, you will love them
I love this. I feel like I learned a lot of techniques for each section, and since you explain your reasoning and thought process I feel like I can take a bunch of these techniques and apply them with different models/colors. I especially liked the glazing techniques.
Thanks
I love the skin tone and the armor and especially the statue, a joy to watch aswalys!
Thanks đ
i like this kind of highlighting of the red with te tau ochre more than fire dragon
Makes for a more muted red which I really like for armour
Another awesome video! Thank you very much!
Thank you for watching đ
"Whoopsie!" you made me and my girlfriend crack up!
Hahahaha, thanks mate đ
Your reds are outstanding, master.
Gracias guapo đ
Turned out so gorgeous! No one does contrast like you my man!
Thanks mate đ
Wow, looks amazing and pops so much! I'm going to apply these colours techniques to the new blood knights!
đ
Taking intro tips from Ninjon now - definitely adds some humour. Another great tutorial
Not from Ninjon, no. Not to dismiss Ninjon's work or anything but I don't watch (and have never watched) his videos. This is taken directly from Ryan George's Pitch Meeting series for Screenrant one of my absolutely favourite series in CZcams.
Again, not saying his content is not good, just be clear, I'm sure it's excellent. I just rarely watch other hobby channels.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Aah, I don't watch the screenrant videos (and habitually never take time to read the intros to videos - because that delays getting to the awesome content). Ninjon's 'signature' has become humorous intros, so a fair number of hobby channel followers might think that's where it came from
That's awesome, just note that I've been doing humourous intros for a long time as well, the first one was if I recall correctly the Copper NMM on October last year. Of course they were pretty lame back then and they are more complex with time.
If you are a person with good sense of humour and you start to pour more of yourself into the content you make, I guess we all come to similar points.
Best one to date! amazing stuff
Thanks mate đ
Very on point with the Cursed City ghosting from GW....
You cannot ghost something that never existed
This has got to be the best opening of any painting tutorial ....ever! And the jab at GW...bonus! I'm totally copying this technique for the rerelease of the crimson court next week. Excellent guide as always Juan !
Thanks mate
Fantastic work! Learned a lot of tricks I didn't even think were possible.
Happy to help đ
Finished my first ulfenwatch dude following your tutorial and Iâm amazed with the result! I hope that you eventually continue with the rest of the miniatures of that game that never released!
I will, although I've never heard of that game.
Beautiful brush work, clear and informative. Bravo sir
Thanks, much appreciated đ
Amazing tutorial . Very enjoyable to watch. So many useful techniques that I want to try now (the weathering and the highlights trick with the leather).thank you very much for the quality content .
Thank you for watching it
Really awesome, always love your work and watching your process. Now off to my painting desk while inspiration strikes
Thanks mate đ
As always, great job :) I really liked the way you used the mix of contrast paint and regular paint for the leather highlight, and the juicy unifying glaze afterwards. I'm definitely going to try that.
I always like to showcase different ways to approach painting, and I've never shown this option to approach highlights over contrast
I really like the colors you used for the cloak and the weathering you did on it. Thanks for the video Mr. Juan. Take care!
Thank you for watching đ
Brutal amigo, como siempre. Gracias !
Gracias guapo đ
Simply outstanding!
Thanks
amazing work as always, a worthy showcase piece
Thanks mate đ
Excellent tutorial! Your videos are always so coherent and useful. Now I'm going to try some of these things and mess up, thank you!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching đ
đđŒ spot on as always Juan... and totally worth waiting for!
Thanks mate đ
This is so useful for my vampire counts army color scheme, especially for the blood knights. thanks again!
Happy to help đ
Awesome work!
Thanks đ
Awwwww, I was really hoping to see you do the base too. It looks amazing!
It's literally the exact same process as the Cursed City bases
Simplemente espectacular. Muy inspirador.
Gracias guapo đ
I love your video! Also, the outro where you paint a mini is interesting, thanks!
đđđđđ
See what you did there
Excellent as always!
Thanks
Fantastic video! Will be following your steps closely when i start painting my Prince Duvalle :)
AWESOME
Wow, Juan that was interesting. So much to watch and learn from. You really make me want to paint better!
Thanks
Great technics as always.. will definitely try that skin on my Dark Eldar.. Luv that Red đ
Thanks mate đ
Amazing work mate
Thanks đ
I really enjoyed this one. The Blue-Black cloth especially
Thanks đ
Noiiiiiiccceee paint scheme Juan. I'm going to try it out on a Chaos Space Marine đđ. Loving the bone textures next to the gold đđïžđ

Very nice!
Thanks đ
That intro was amazing!
Thanks đ
Fantantisco....increible...

That intro is tight!

Woopsie... needs to be included into future vids đ€Ł

Muy bonito como siempre Juan đđ
Gracias guapo đ
following this method to paint this legendary model today. Wish me luck!
Awesome!
Provides info on preferred brush in video info, pinned comment, and in opening shot of video.
Still gets 80 questions.
Lol, yeah. I don't mind answering btw, no issue at all
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I dig your style, Mr. H. Been watching your vids for a long time. You singlehandedly inspired me to start getting into the hobby last year after viewing your Emperor's Children video. I went out the next day and bought my very first paint pots: Volupus Pink and Black Templar. Been putting in the time ever since
You aren't just the most talented painter I've seen, you're also super kind and generous. Kudos to you, my man. You do so much good in the world.
That's the most beautiful thing anyone has said to me.
Going to show it to my wife so she learns how it's done!
i love the intro! :)
Thanks đ
Haces que parezca hasta fĂĄcil! Gran trabajo!
Are you fucking kidding me...
This looks OFFICIAL.
Thanks
05:53 - moonlight obviously ;-)
obviously
Hey Juan, really loving your videos, I always learn something new, thanks a lot for that!
I have a question: You used a few glazes in this video. How do you mix those? Do you just use water or do you use any kind of medium? Is it different for the ones with metal color?
If nothing is clearly stated, just water.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures jajaja ok
Dear @JuanHidalgo Miniatures love your work! Just wondering what colors you used on the statue? love the effect
It's my How to Base - Cursed City video
Love it as always. Didn't realize I wasn't subscribed! Question--how do you keep SUCH a tiny point on your brushes? I'm trying out a similar kolinsky sable brush and can't get nearly as fine a point.
Light touch and not overload your brush. That's basically it
Really like this painting toturial, thank you, do you have any plans to paint any Gutrippaz from the new Krulebozy, as would love to see how you would approach them, to get some ideas for my new army.
All factions will get a video, so yes BUT not for a while because GW hasn't send me the box for review so I'm not modifying my planed videos.
This is a ripper.
Don't know if this is good or bad but I love you either way đ
Me gusta mucho đ
beautiful work! If you were to paint Blood Knights, would you do the barding on the Nighmares the same as the riders armor using this method or something else?
Honestly, o think the recipe the Warhammer TV guys used in their video is spot on, just needs more work put into the highlights
GW needs to sponsor your videos so you can show people how contrast paints should actually be used. Stunning work as usual!
Probably won't after this roast. đ
You mean to paint for detail and not speed paint with contrasts?
I was hoping for a tutorial of this miniature
Glad I could help you
Balisimo :)
đ
Nice one! Can you make a skaven? Would like to see one of those since their furry skin is interesting.
I will at some point
I have enjoyed all of Cursed City movies including 3h one, current one and Chaos Warrior movie as for now. Really cool stuff. I wonder what paint scheme would you pick for other vampires that were included in The Crimson Court? Still red armor or different?
I personally prefer all to have the same colour scheme myself
Beautiful! How did you you do the marbe statue base thingy?
It's linked and explained in the video. It's the same recipe as the Cursed City bases
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Ah! Thank you!
Love your scheme for this, esp the vampire skin
Would love to see you paint the rest of the court or even some classic WHFB Vampire minis like Vlad.
Edit:
Btw, at the 33 minute mark. The mini in the upper left near the Vyrkos Bloodborn. What is that?
Thanks! It's a Chaos Warrior
I could replace the skin layer with the Nuln oil wash and have the same effect or would it be better to use another paint?
I can't guarantee you will get the same results using different paints but you can give it a try. I'm sure it will look lovely
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures thanks You a lot, very nice video you really inspired me
@damianmacias7859 thanks for watching!
Love your videos...great job as Always man. Do you plan on doing any of the new Orruks from dominion box? They seem right up your alley...
Yes but not any time soon as GW didn't sent me the box for review
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Oh, really. Seems like a wasted oportunity, since you are really pushing their products in a fantastic And unique way....I'll do my best to do something about that. Od anyone wants to join me in letting GW know about Juan, you're welcome
I would really appreciate it mate đ
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures they promised (in their heart of hearts) that they'll have a look at your stuff đ
đ you are the BEST
great tuto Juan! one question, please: do u use magnifiers? am asking that because of the precision on the face detail. thank you
Yes of course, why wouldn't you use them? You only have the eyes that come straight from the factory, no replacement parts.
Take care of your sight
No, agua nunca.
What size is the base?
Can't remember sorry, but I think it looks like a 32mm?
Want to paint blood knights armor like this, but I think they are slightly more bright/candy red. How do you guys think - can I use blood angels red and not flesh tearers? Or they are to similar, so it doesn't matter?)
Look at my Bloody Rose tutorial! That will help you
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures oh, thanks, mate, will do
Happy to help!
: )
đ
What size of rosemary is the one you are using in the video?
Series 33 size 3 exclusively
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures thankyou! Iâve been on a brush hunt for ages, will try these
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Long handle or short? Assuming short if that means normal size?
Always short, long handle is for canvas painting.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures thought so. Cheers!

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures ok. đ
I went to buy the brushes you use and they don't send to the U.S. lol
Get the Series 99, they are identical just Red Sable instead of Kolinsky. The difference is miniscule
What does your shirt mean âI hate blueâ?
It's pretty clear, it says ot on the shirt. I don't like the colour blue
Hey I was wondering if you'd be open to tackling a colour scheme I've been having trouble replicating for ages now. Does the discord from becoming a patron allow for more proper responce to questions like these? If so sorry for asking this in the wrong place.
I would 100% answer any questions regarding colour schemes there. What I won't do is paint an actual mini for you but o would give you a list of paints that I think will get you there.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Radical! Would I just have to send a message on the discord or soething with the photo attatched and that would all be good?
Yes, be sure to @ me in the post so I can see it. You can also send me a private message, no problem at all

Juan, what about the demon face on his breastplate?
What about it? It's painted in exactly the same way as the rest of the armour
