- A true Berg-Cup Legend by now, this is Manfred Schulte´s Citroen AX Kit-Car in its latest evolution, one of the most recognizable and fastest 1600cc Class Monsters in Europe. Powered by the 1.6L Naturally Aspirated engine used on the C2 S1600 Rally Car but further tuned by NEMETH to a dizzying 274Hp/10.000Rpm, here we can watch it being raced in anger at Turckheim Hillclimb 2020.
The product of over a decade of development by Mr. Schulte, this little Monster has its power transmitted to the Front Wheels through a Drexler 6-speed Sequential Gearbox and every body panel replaced by Carbon Fiber ones. All the weight saving leads to an impressive 680Kg figure, making this an impressively agile machine. A true Hot Hatch in every sense of the word, it will be joined next year by another Citroen AX Monster built by the same Team, as Benedikt Schulte (Manfred´s son) is finishing his own unit and it looks pretty menacing already... Hopefully, next year, we´ll be able to access which will take the crown of fastest AX in Hillclimb Racing...
I don't understand why everyone are hating... The driver is good, the car also. The engine that goes up to 10.000 rpm is nuts. Great video as always .👍🏻

I do not understand hate as well, it is insane engineering and we cannot know what driving style it is required for this specific build (torque steer, torque curve etc.). Yes, it is clean drive (short shifts, easy on breaking), and it might not be the fastest (you can find mr. Buck's run at St. Agatha 15s quicker), but it is still enjoyable video and worth of appreciation.

The AX Sport with almost 110 bhp was my first car in 1989 .... a really HOT HATCH .... Even more aggressive than the Golf GTI Mk1 ... Great memories ❤️

I have the same engine in my saxo, 200hp and 9500rpm. I have seen french tuning companies build that engine upto 230-240hp, but this one is waaay more powerflull, and everyone who build a high powered N/A engine knows how much money is needed for this. Amazing work!
Remember this is powered by the engine found on the Citroen C2 S1600 race car, not an highly tuned road car engine. Also factor in that it is built without reliability as a concern. As long as it keeps on full song for around 5 minutes, everything goes. Of course still not easy, but I am sure NEMETH Motortechnik will hapilly buiod you one for the right price :P
Will this run E100 ethanol fuel, or another oxygenated race fuel? That would make a measurable difference.
The fact that it is spins to 10k rpm,
The fact that there is a lot of development in the valve train ( the road version uses bucket tappets, this uses "pouguets, " oblong shaped translating followers with a curved face, allowing for less inertia and more "radical" accel laws. Very expensive parts and machining operations... )
And obviously everything associated with this.
(This engine would most certainly be a nightmare in a daily car )

Mister Schulte seems to be a very meticulous person, I like his build on every aspect ! I love the car he chose, I love the aero package he added, I love the overall look, I love the engine and it's sound, I like the interiour (and engine bay) so tidy and clean. And most of all, the way he's driving it is almost relaxing to watch (very composed and -once again- clean).... A very tiny and tidy monster !
Over 10 years working on this machine up to the very last bolt ;)

What I like about the AX is the saxo/106 front end was used from the AX so any engine that fits the saxo fits in the AX

Oops. I've never seen my little love like that before. I loved the car nevertheless! It told me how to e-break. It was so precise. I only had to think of some BS. The little AX knew what to do ;-) If I could get one today, I'm willing not to drive into Cities.

That's the gear linkage. Sequential gearbox like a motorcycle so just push the gear lever forwards or back to change up and down

274 hp seems a little to much . So far I have seen 250-255 hp on these engines , I belive that 260 hp whit 102 octane fuel it’s possible.
If we consider the extreme low weight and the short gear ratio on this car, I belive the engine is running on these numbers , 250 hp give or take something.
Is there any dyno video that confirm 274 hp?

Cette carrosserie un moteur Mitsubishi evo un gros turbo et ta un monstre mais il faut absolument la passer en 4 roue motrice toutes les vraie gagnante comme audi quattro subaru et autre sont 4 roue motrice je vous promets qu on gagne en tout avant je m éclater en propulsion mais c etait plutôt du drift apres j ai voulut gagner des courses de côte je suis passer en traction avant avec une clios wuilliams qui envoyer bien mais des que je suis passer en 4 roue motrice plus je faisait le parcours plus j allais vites il faut juste faire confiance à la voitures j ai commencer avec une Lancia delta et après une subaru survitaminé et en 6 moi j ai finit troisième j etait sur un podium c etait trop bon a vivre a tous ce qui se santé l ame d un pilote
Don't you need to use the clutch on downshifts?
It's a sequential so you don't need to use the clutch. It's probably only their because this car was swapped to sequential
@@rileyberkowitz Well it still needs a clutch even with a sequential box. How would it leave the start line otherwise ?
@@morganfreeman5171 I might be wrong but I think sequentials are like automatics with paddle shifters but it still has a shift knob. I don't know much about transmissions tho

@@rileyberkowitz think of it like the Triptronic gears in porsches not to long back well yeah long back actually. The gears are always loaded up ready to go. If your in third, gears 2 + 4 are ready.
The need for a clutch is non existant only except for first gear start off. With sequential gears, you can only go up or down the gears you cant just slide from 2 to 4th. This limits destruction of the gear box and over revving. So clutch to start after that its non in use. Hope this helps.
