Thank you. Sometimes emotions make us overcomplicate things like this. My 21-year-old only son is locked up.

Thank you so much. I have a friend who is in prison. We have spoken 5 times on the phone. It is hard because I am an intuitive empath and I feel his suffering. He is more positive than I am and takes it mostly in stride ....all the love everyone.

Excellent video! Thanks for making it. In the US, the rules vary greatly on what convicts are allowed to have in different prisons. So I would check with your loved one first.

Really interesting and insightful vlog series. Congratulations on your degree and the amazing positivity. My grandfather was a P.O. in the London system for a few years. Thanks for being willing to reflect on your time and give so much information to prisoners and people close to them. Such a great resource. I wonder if you are able to be a mentor to any prisoners or families as you’d be great. Cheers

Hi Helen. Oh thank you so much for the lovely comment. I would love to help people if I can, but I don't know how useful I would be. Would love to speak with some Officers or Prison Officers about my experiences as well, if it was of any use.

Jack Hill my grandpa passed away a few years ago but I do remember him talking about it. A lot of what you say is applicable to people wanting to support someone in another difficult long term situation, eg illness or bereavement. Anyway, thanks for all you do and keep up the great work.

Great series thanks for putting these up man.
I served time (3 years 42 days) in A south american large prison (Bangu) it was mostly a nightmare. Breakfast if available was a hot dog bun if you were lucky there was butter on some they were dropped in a large plastic sack on the floor with cockroaches running all over , cafe had to be paid for. food was absolutely horrible there was no water to drink you had to buy from cantina
The bread was made at another prison where sex offenders where held and they baked the shitty bread ..once they went on strike and there no bread for 3 months, like Jack was saying your body expects that food when you dont get it you feel ill.
The vans were awful packed with bodies stacked up each other there was no ventilation I really thought I was going die the first day on transport from the jail to the prison.
The English jails sound so much better with the gym and music classes there is nothing like that here, 1 hour of football per week on a hard pitch (cement), no way to see outside.
Your 1st months to a year your locked inside your cell 24 hours per day afterthat you can go out in to the wing area/corridor
I had no money for the first year I drew tatto designs, decorated letters for other inmates and drew portraits of family members and sweethearts for the guards and the inmates in trade for water, extra food, and razors.
Was beaten a couple of times and had my jaw cracked by guard, could always be worse.
anyways just sharing a little of my own experience its still not over im on open regime for now hoping to be done in 3 months.

Very unsetteling read. Thought provoking. Thank you.
Nobody deserves cruel and unusual punishment such as what you went through.
      It really sucks.
My sister and many of my close friends has gone to prison several times. In Sweden.
I have no personal experience, so I should keep myself short. What do I know after all?
Swedish prisons are pretty much on the same level as UK prisons I would say.
A detail I can share, because every jail-bird i've talked to who has done time here says the same thing.
The food here is cooked by the prisoners. And they have access to decent (well, excellent compared to your horrible experience) ingredients.
If you got good people working in the kitchen, you get kick-ass food.
And usually they did. People who were good cooks were happier inmates when they could cook.
The other prisoners were super happy because they got great food every day.
The guards where happy, because the prisoners were less agressive and shitty.
May I ask a personal question? I make no judgements, i think i'm too old for that.
What crime did you commit? And what are your own thoughts on why you did what you did? And how you ended up there...
You think you're likely to go back?
I ask with the higest respect, as I said, I have no good reason to pass judgement on other people.
I'd just be interested to hear :)
Buen dia, mi amigo (my spanish is terrible and from school.. if you feel more comfortable with Spanish, i can use google translate . It does a decent job as long as you try to stay away from slang-words :D )

Arrr amazing as usual, thanks Jack...but some rules about sending stuff in have changed...especially books....ridiculous actually. So always, always check with your loved one or the prison itself. Yeah?

    • @JackHill1
      @JackHill1  Před 10 lety +1

Hey Sandy, Yes of course, always check with the Prison if you want to know the exact rules and limits to the items that the Prisoner is allowed and how to send these in. Thanks for the comments Sandy!

How much money a week would the average prisoner need?

    • @JackHill1
      @JackHill1  Před 10 lety +1

Well, that's a good question. Ignoring tobacco (if they smoke, which about 60% of prisoners do), maybe £10 a week to live a more comfortable level. That would have done me. Although it also depends on if they are working as well. But just for the basics, that would do I think :) Thanks for the comment.

About 100 calls are $5 for 6 min call also if you want to eat more then the 3 basic meals that bearly scap your stomach to make you full you need comasarary money so you don't get super hungry aslo most places you have to pay for all your toilettetries the thing most people miss is just eating , and walking around prisoners get jobs but work full time and get 60c an hour or less getting maybe $50 a week this is in Australia by the way,
And also hear we have TVs, eletricblakets, rice cooker, kettle and radios and you pay probly 3x the price but it really ads value to there life
