After more than thirty years of Cello playing I’ve finally found this crucial, extremely important.
This is a rare detailed thumb side view of the bow hold, thank you. 😃
Right! I never feel like I can get this view ever and I finally see!
such a slight change makes such a big difference! thanks!
Great to hear!
Excellent advice. Every small detail goes a long way for the bow hold, as a beginner this has helped a bunch! :)
i love the purposefully over enunciation of consonants when he talks xD
THANK YOU!!! I've been playing cello for about 3 days now and i'm so glad to find this video and your channel
I like the Stringvision Bow Grip. Helps hand relax, keeps thumb in correct position.
agreed, i think the art of violin family instruments, is way too stuck in tradition,
which is why i love seeing the new geared pegs, and the new bow holds, etc.
Casals made this a rule, folks. Before him, nobody played like that all the time, the thumb of the player was kept straight and flexible.
Pablo Ferrandez changed his bow hold around 3 years ago and now he is just fine with that. He even made a video about it. Watch that video and make your choice.
To hold the bow that way is not a strict rule.
Thanks Jonathon ... now if only my arthritis would allow me to hold the bow for more than 10 mins without pain ...
have you played your whole life? my stepdad rip, had arthritis in the hand he used for finger/fretting and none in his bow hand, some cool research shows it prevents arthritis in some people, bowing,
Thank you very much!
Thank you 🙏🏽
Very useful!
Jonathan, do you have any advice if I keep overextending or even lifting my pinkie of the bow?
thank you so much for this video ...... when I play the cello I relax my thumb ..... but sometimes it hurts ...... do you know what is the problem.??? ❤❤❤
Instinctively my thumb bends inwards and I wish there is some exercise to reverse it.
Think of it as a "shelf" to rest the bow on, with the thumb tip curved towards palm
