  • Powerful Truck Pulls A Train In The Middle Of Main Street! Cop Saves The Day At Malfunctioning Railroad Crossing! Street Running Maintenance Of Way Truck/Train Going Both Ways Unloading Railroad Ties! LONG VERSION & Man Walks In Front Of Street Running Train. CSX Street Running Train Action In LaGrange, Kentucky.
This is the full version in landscape orientation. I have posted a few shorts in portrait and now we see the rest of the story. Both sides of the heavy duty truck pulling 5 loaded railroad cars. We see it at both ends of the street running track in LaGrange, Kentucky. We also see how they unload railroad ties from the train while it is moving.
A truck hit the railroad crossing gate and bent it. It kept going up and down nearly hitting every car that passed by it until the LaGrange Police came to the rescue. They bent the crossing gate back so that it would stay in place properly. The guys in the truck who originally bent the gate tried to bend it back but were unable to. They didn't use the right technique. Lol.
I also explain how fast the train can run down Main Street. We see the signs that give the maximum speed for the CSX trains. The numbers to remember are 10 and 25.
Then we see a huge street running train running south through town. A man just casually walks in front of the approaching train like it's no big deal. This train was a huge one. An Emergency response vehicle got to wait for the train while on a run and we also see the steam engine at the train station. The steam locomotive is from the UK and there were talks of trading it and having it return home across the big pond. The talks fell through because some of the parts to the locomotive turned up missing. They were being shipped and never made it to where they were going, according to the LaGrange museum. On the Union Pacific Railroad this truck is known as a Brant Truck. The air brakes work the same as on a normal trains. Thanks to a viewer for that information. The house that you see the inside of is an Air BNB. I stayed there and it is called The Brakeman's Shanty. It is right on Main Street right where the street running tracks begin.
This video has all kinds of interesting stuff from LaGrange and on the day that I am posting this I am in LaGrange filming again! I was there from 10:30am until about 9pm on Tuesday, October 24, 2023.
Filmed with 2 cameras in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

The truck is a Peterbilt truck modified by Brandt of Regina Saskatchewan. They add the required railroad devices so that it can operate as a locomotive. They can be ordered in numerous configurations and equipped with many choices of optional equipment.

@@JawTooth This is not a train as far as the railroad is concerned. It may be a train to the public and the railfans but it's not a train. If it were a train, it would have to be manned by an engineer and conductor and maybe even a brakeman. As far as I could see, this M/W equipment was operated by one man. All major railroads have agreements with the operating and M/W unions allowing these hi-rail trucks to be manned by a M/W employee. I believe there are limits to how many cars can be towed around by the truck. Great catch showing how the crane rides on rails set above the sides of the cars, so it can move from car to car and reach down for the batch of ties and put them on the right of way. Keep up the good work.

The reason why trains are the most efficient means of transporting cargo is because they can pull massive amounts of cargo with a surprisingly low amount of energy (relatively). If a train only pulled a few cars at a time, it would be the least efficient form of transportation……

The first one definitely counts as a train, but some people seeing it from a couple blocks away might think it's a truck. If you ever see a crossing with malfunctioning gates but nobody around to fix them, there is usually a number to call to report the situation. The fire department might have two different stations on different sides of the track, but only one fire chief, so that might explain how the other firefighters got ahead.

The CSX hi rail truck pulling the gondolas with the railroad ties was a great catch. The backhoe dropping ties along the right of way was the first time that we have seen this process. Too bad we were not able to watch the backhoe move from its resting place to the rail on top of the gondolas. This is not the first time that we have seen the LaGrange, Kentucky come to the rescue when a crossing gate malfunctions. I enjoyed watching this vide and I look forward to seeing the video that you create of your trip to LaGrange, Kentucky on 24 October 2023.

"Wow, cool", is the same thing I said. What an interesting mix of events. I would've never thought that the Brant truck could pull that much weight, but obviously it's designed for it. I've seen 'em pull a few empties before, but 4 fully loaded gondolas and a 5th with the tie handling rig is pretty impressive. It must have some pretty steep gearing. And the bent crossing arm, I'm guessing the cops have had to straighten that out a few times before. It didn't take too much effort to get it back close to where it should be. All around, a great day of railfanning, JT, thanks.

Pretty good driveline in that truck to pull that weight. Interesting to see how it would do going up or down a grade of any length. I would not want to be going down a long grade running on truck brakes alone.

    • @dustinmcdevitt6819
      @dustinmcdevitt6819 Před 7 měsíci +5

Grades might be an issue due to lack of adhesion because of a lack of weight, but just getting stuff rolling is pretty easy on rail.

Brandt R4 has sufficient tractive effort to haul 15 loads on level track. Rating goes down depending on the grade.@@dustinmcdevitt6819

And the truck is equipped to control the railcar brakes, just like a locomotive. The transmission is not a standard Freightliner model like in a highway truck. Much stronger set-up. A new Brandt truck costs over $1 million.

It's unusual that they went back and forth so much, the Brandt trucks are pretty common, NS has one for each Division, CSX looks like they recently started buying them as that truck was pretty new compared to the NS Harrisburg Division one.

I hope they called the 800 number so the gate can be properly inspected by the signal department. You see that officer holding the gate and waving a car by him? If a railroad employee did that, they would be fired. It's not safe to ever do that.

I find street running to be so surreal as trains pass along the street and in between buildings. (There isn't any of it left in the UK). The other thing that is surreal is looking at road vehicles running on railway lines. This one takes the biscuit: A road vehicle, adapted to be able to run on railways, pulling railway wagons, on a railway embedded into a street to perform street running. Not something I have ever thought of. Maybe only on a Jaw Tooth video.
