You were luckier than you know. The soil in southern Utah has an extremely high clay content. When it gets wet, it's like driving in greased pig snot. What helped was being in the canyon bottom where there is lots of rock to provide traction and stability. Up on the mesas, you are sure to slide off the road and/or get stuck. You have no idea what the weather is doing many miles upstream.

There's no flash flooding in the video, and halfway through you switch to music instead of natural sound. On the plus side, you made it out.

So much for caring for your fellow man ! Just disgustingly drive by and not even ask if they need help. Not my kind of friend or person Greg.

so where was the flash flood -- lots of water running on road but not enough to be called a flood in my books

Do not stop for photos and probably not the people behind you! Shame!

Glad you didn’t get mired in the crazy Utah mud...it can be difficult, if not nearly impossible, to move once bogged down!

Just down that road a few weeks ago. It was a sunny day. Would hate to do it like you did. I wonder how the people still parked on the end got out? Those cars were not Jeeps.

How many times did you have to go through the car wash after you got home?

What were you driving? Nice job. I ask because I am going to Capitol Reef in May and I need to know if my Subaru would be able to deal with an emergency situation like this one.

+nooranik21 We are driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but your Subaru should be fine, just be smart and head out early, don't wait for the water to get too high! Have fun!
