(slide on the E string for that extra crispy edge)

The last 'It was built for love' part has a little "lick". The Gm7 is played (with the bottom three strings (EAD) ) like: 35X - 53X - 63X - 335
Use bar chords if you can, it'll make it sound way better.
John is mostly using his thumb for the root note (like he always does). Using regular bar chords is working fine for me as well.

If you knew some basic 1st grade theory you would know that Gmaj is not in the key of Fmajor. the chords in Fmajor are F - Gm - Am - Bb - C - Dm - Edim. Go read some books before you act like a know it all.

I always liked and respected John Mayer, but let me tell you and I'm sure I speak for Andy Cohen as a big Diana fan this rendition is amazing because this song is one of those album gems that didnt become big hits, only her diehard fans know about. John knocked this out of the park!!

Like a musician, guitarist myself, it was pretty embarrassing when they started clapping off beat but John could still perform like the legend he is.

First time ever that John's vocals impress me more than his guitar playing. Incredibly smooth, subtle and soothing.
Especially considering John had throat surgery and he couldn’t talk for like 6 months in order for it to heal.
Didn't know about the surgery but, imho John's weak link had always been his lack of vocals to match his genius and literally making any guitar do whatever he wants it to do. Best guitar player ever. I was surprised by his vocal range and vocal dexterity at this setting.
After damaging his chords he def got smart and took voice lessons which definitely paid off. His vocals have come a long way from the first live shows.
That is so amazing of John to do this for Andy! What a beautiful friendship they have! That was special, for sure.
The only thing they should have changed is exile every single one who started clapping. Totally killed the vibe.

That's one song every die hard Diana Ross fan knows but not one of her biggest hits. "The Boss" album doesn't have a bad track on it. He performed it very well indeed. Another Diana Ross song that was not a big hit but sounds SO GOOD (just downloaded a remix of it) is "Surrender". Ms. Ross was REALLY into that one and delivers an exuberant vocal. Andy is adept at hamming for the camera but his reaction here is sincere and child-like. Love it.
