    Metal brake hoses originated in the automotive world. One of the downsides not mentioned is that they were very abrasive. A poorly secured hoste could wear through a car’s chassis. This would be exaggerated on an aluminum or CF bike, as the hoses need a fair about of free length to accommodate steering and suspension movement.

    #askgmbntech - Bit of a challenge for you: If you built up a bike with the logic that you could take it completely apart with the smallest number of tools possible (all nuts, bolts, brackets etc) - how many tools would you need and what compromises would need to be made?

    • @feedbackzaloop
      @feedbackzaloop Před měsícem +1

      Seconding it! Fearing though, you and I won't be satisfied with presenters' definition of "completely apart". Like, forks, brakes and hubs down to the very last interface, pressfits included? - no way. And if you consider a set of hex keys as one tool or every size seperately...
      But a good way to see how some tools can have several applications like Shimano bottom bracket wrench on centerlock brake rotors

    I think what nearly killed and limits the braided ("steelflex") brake hoses now is that you can't really fit a hose end outside the factory, ideally has to be machine crimped. So no length adjustment and very limited inner routing options for those.
    As per price, regular kevlar ones cost inexcusable money, so steel is not that much different of an investment. Like 20 Euros for Shimano 1,7m with most basic straight fittings vs 27 for Hope 2m, fittings excluded. Sometimes it is even worth to buy shut set of brakes and reuse hoses from there if you need hoses with a banjo.

    When I upgraded my chainring it dawned on me that Giant had incorrectly specified the original chainring for the chainline; surprising. The correct offset chainring fixed the chainline and massively improved the reliability in the big sprocket. So dont just assume even the most reliable manufacturers get it completely right.

    Hi guys at GMBN. I've got a couple of questions about suspension fork. 1. How come mtb forks aren't built like motorcross forks where they don't require frequent maintenance such as every 50 hours of riding. I could be wrong but I don't see motorcross bikes having their forks regularly serviced such as mtb forks. 2. When one services their MTB fork, one has to change the oil in the damper. I've got a fox 34 and while I can't remember of the top of my head the grade of oil that needs to be used, I remember seeing the same grade of oil used in motorcycle forks. Question is could you use a motorcycle suspension oild with the same grade in your MTB fork? Reason being is that there are a lot of motorcycle workshops where I live compared to mtb shops and it is easier to get fork oils for motorcycles vs specialty fox fork oils

    When you use a rear hub like a I9 Hydra, with almost no play, then add an O'Chain to your chainring. Isn't that just like using a hub with more play like a 18 or 36 tooth engagement???

    I still haven't switched from tubes to sealant. I XC ride mostly on loams and packed sand, and haven't had a puncture in years. So glad I don't have to deal with all that messy faffing about...

    The belt drive its cool, but the Gatas dont recommandet with "back band" like Gamux bike use it. You bought super expensive belt and you can snap him after 200km with usege. Only bike manufactore how deliver the best solution is Cavaleria Bikes with Effigear gearbox.

    I want to get a Saracen Ariel 80 pro but 180 travel is a tad too much for me, would lowering the travel evenly front and rear affect the geometry badly?
    (I chose this bike cuz I love the green it comes in)

    #AskGMBNtech Hi, I would like to change my cassette from the stock SX eagle to a GX eagle but I have to change the freehub body in order for it to fit. I have a Specialized Fuze 27.5 with their in house stout hubs, I'm assuming their Sram but I cant find much information about them. Would I have to used a Sram driver or can I use any that accepts a XD cassette? its a confusing subject!
    Thanks!

    #askgmbntech Not sure this is really a tech question , I recently purchased a Commencal Absolute Dirt Jumper for pump track laps with my son. But after 3 sessions, i'm getting a horrible pain in the lower right side of my neck. I rest, but It comes back. Is my bike not set up right? Not the right size? I followed the size guide and bought accordingly. Any ideas?

    • @feedbackzaloop
      @feedbackzaloop Před měsícem +1

      Sorry to be the bearer, but it seems like a sign of age and simple fact that pump track laps always run one way. Try riding other way round and see if left side starts to hurt

    Hello beautiful and lovely people of @gmbntech I want to ask how to align my wheel at the back of my hard tail MTB. When I got punctured going to the mountain top of our university, I changed my inner tube for 26 inch Schwable Tires and Alexis Rims. However, when I rode it on my way home by downhill to the downtown area, I noticed that my real wheel is wobbling, and when I checked, the wheel is not aligned perfectly (or close to perfect) even if I didn't adjust the spoke (but I was about to) and the tires are aligned perfectly. Could be the spokes or the wheel itself? How can I fix this without (hoping) costing too much money if ever I will bring it to the shop? Thanks and happy spring break! #ASKGMBNTECH

    Regarding brakes… the material of the hose only depends on the inner pressure of the system and a possible and unwanted expansion of the line. Cheers
