  • In this video we have a go at fitting the genuine Land Rover rear light guards to our project Land Rover Discovery 4 / LR4 VPLAP0009. We cheat a little using self drilling screws rather than going for rivnuts.

    Great idea using tech screws instead of rivnuts, about to fit these to my D3 and will likely do that too!

    Great! While I love rivnuts, I think your screw option is fine and should work well.

    Re painting new drill holes in bodywork with aerosol paint, I spray some into the lid 5 mins earlier than I use it. This gives time for most of the solvents to evaporate and the paint is much thicker. Then I use a Cotton Bud to apply instead of a brush. No clean up to do!

    Great video. What size self drilling screws did you use?

    £140 a set?....not sure and I would be thoughtful about drilling holes but I suppose they will appeal and sell...I’m guessing your version is rather better engineered.! Good work again! 😀😀😀😀

      We have not re-engineered them... they are just aftermarket products to the same design - and having seen the genuine ones the aftermarket ones need a bit of tweaking so we have taken them out of stock to see what we can do to bring them up to scratch.

    Such a shame you have to drill holes in the car to fit them
    Why the small brackets couldn’t be extended to go under the light fixing “nipples” and the guard stays fixed to the light unit.

      @L663  Před 4 lety +1

      We redesigned the Freelander 1 headlights guards to be no drill and the Freelander 2 headlight guards "no drill" are in process too !

      I’ve actually had a run in with my garbage can with these, actually helps not break the light

    Please don’t use self drill screws use the rivnuts the hole just bigger each time you remove it and the screws get brittle

      @L663  Před 4 lety +1

      If this happens i can at least fit the rivnuts then... if you see what i mean !

      powerfulukltd I had the guards on my Freelander 1 front & back years ago, they looked great. What I think is wrong with these guards is that the light itself is so big & the guard is overly thick & chunky looking.
