Now that looks like the kind of composite decking I've been waiting for. Thanks Jon.
Having spent all day yesterday installing composite I can definitely say I approve this message!
Looking forward to seeing the deck build.
That decking looks terrific.
Excellent tips Jon!
Thanks for the tips.
I can think of a lot of uses for the screws.
Good info, Jon~! I'm looking at replacing our dilapid pressure-treated deck surface with a synthetic and that one looks nice. Haven't heard of Zome Tek yet. Can't wait to see how yours turns out. Thanks~!
I’m adding a deck off the back left side of my house in a few weeks. Cool info Jon, I look forward to your video. Looks like a great product for our long term needs
The ZomeTek decking is a really nice product.
Very happy with this guide
I'm going to be redoing my deck later this summer, can't wait to see the full video.
Thanks Thomas...the full video should be ready in about a week.
Great tips and nice looking work. I would personally avoid creating all those rot pockets though. Especially on the "reveal". Excellent video though!
Good looking material and good tips. I wonder if other retailers might start to carry it in Virginia, HD, Lowes, 84 Lumber are all we have here.
Cool video, nice tip! I'm looking for these tipe of decking here in Brazil, but it is very expensive...
Very informative..thank you Jon. Stay safe
Thanks Amanda
The demo of the special screw was invaluable. Too many of the videos for installing composite decking on CZcams only show how to use hidden clips. Luckily, I tested a “composite deck screw,” with a bugle head, on a scrap of my composite, and of course it made a big nipple. So I went out and bought a couple boxes of screws that look like the one you used, and they’re working perfectly. Thank you. (Finally, at 56, I test even the screws on scrap wood.)
I really want to use this stuff!
short and informative, thx
Great tips Jon, thanks for sharing! 👍👊
Greetings friends great work, which brand recommend me to make my deck
Good tips. I would consider using this stuff on a deck that I build. It has a really nice look to it.
Thanks Bruce
Did you encounter any problems with expansion using two different materials - ie. timber and composite decking?
Really smart Jon !!!
Thanks Brian!
great job
Good to know stuff there. Many thanks for your upload.
Can I ask, what is that facing board with the edge called that your using ? That looks great
Great tips Jon! Thanks for sharing.😎👍JP
Thanks JP
You're very welcome Jon! 😎
Hey my brother awesome stuff I like it very nice :)
Thanks TJ!
Awesome tip as always, thanks Jon.
Hey John, never laid a deck myself but will probably be in the future. Why is it you'd like a reveal around the decking instead of the decking hanging off a 1/4 of an inch? Thanks!
NICE JOB
Thanks
Very good
nice job
like this a lot thanks
Ola,saudaçoes de um fá seu do brasil, esse material é pvc,um abraço.
the UV from the sun is very harsh here in NZ I've seen it play havoc with composite (plastic) decking by bowing the planks, popping the clips and lifting the decking, and shrinking it at the ends exposing large gaps,
that reveal around the edge looks great, my old fella priced composite decking here in Ireland 18x16 ft, priced at about 1600 euro,
Does the zometech warp? Trex is notorious for that.
Great video Jon & very informative. Unfortunately I haven't seen composite decking here in the UK. What's the lifespan of Zome Tec??
It’s readily available, just google composite deck boards.
Thanks Paul. I really didn't think we could get it here. Mind you it's really expensive at Wickes & Travis Perkins. I may have to look around for better deals. Thanks again
How hot is this composite under the sun ?
I can’t quite catch watch the screws you used were called?
What's the pricing on the deck boards?
The centerlines on the joists look less than 16 inch, what is the requirement?
Why would you want to have a reveal around your Deck? Id want to have a small overhang to prevent Water to get to the Joists...
I'm asking the same thing

how long do this kind of deck lasts?
Does anyone know how well composite desking holds up to northeast weather?
most will expand and contract with heat and cold. They are more brittle and susceptible to breaking if installed on a deck that has joists spaced too far apart in colder weather. They will also contract and leave gaps in seams if installed on a very hot day as the material tends to shrink some when its cold but likewise if installed on too cool of a day, you will have the opposite affect on hot days.
I recommend checking with local builders as they will likely point you to the best composite for your region. Not all composite deck materials are the same.
I try to use your information in our home..
You installed the deck up side down the groves are meant to be on the bottom for air flow to stop the joists rotting out
😂😂😂
Glad I'm not the only one who picked that up... WTF??
What was the name of the screws?
Deckfast Cap-tor seems to be what he is using. Seems amazon has them, but only in the 1750 qt boxes.
That second set of threads isnt designed to "counter sink" the screw. In fact that is bad leaving a spot for water to pool up and during winter month snow and ice will get in and begin to separate the material. (composite decks are not weather proof decks) That second set of threads is to avoid mushrooming of the material if you dont pre drill your holes. its not intended to counter sink the entire head but rather be flush and those threads help pull the material flat.
You telling that to the guy who install deck upside down?
Where’s the video of installation?

Jon, even though you probably got free resurfacing materials for your deck out of the sponsored video, I know you wouldn’t endorse a product unless you liked it personally. It seemed an interesting product since I am considering redoing my double layer deck and wrap around stairs. Unfortunately, to get a couple samples they ask for more personal information than my name and physical address (which is all I feel they need). I’ll be looking elsewhere. Thanks anyway Jon.
Not using DPC lovley
Its soo easy în video, but i have now a 80 meter long deck too cover whit this material, than its ooooooo my God
You aren’t supposed to do butt joints on composite decks?
Thought this be better info
R.I.P. Zometek?
Hi jon,share on facebook 👍
Don't knock your grill over and catch it on fire it's really hard to put out
Like mi 😘
You've put the deck the wrong way around! The ridged side on the deck board is just sarcing to stop the wood cupping.... They just put it on mod wood for the look!
Wrong... this decking is double sided you can choose either look
I thought the exact same at first. This is a quote from Apollo decking website;
"These stair treads are reversible and provide a ridged appearance on one side and a brushed appearance on the other side."
I personally prefer the brushed look and I imagine if it rains, the water would just pool inside the grooves making it slippery.

Why are you installing it up side down. It's more slippery and the grooves allow the air to get under to help stop joists rotting. I think you should go back to school before teaching people the wrong way
apollodecks.com/. Is double sided… Nice comment though.... I added the so you can learn more about it
Here's a quick tip for installing composite decking...
DON'T! The stuff looks absolutely terrible after a few months. It fades, any spillages completely stain the surface and can't be removed and it costs way too much in comparison with merbau. Just don't go near it.
This on is still looking good I’ll probably post an update to Instagram this week
over priced crap!
👏👏👏
