      Same problem I had when building this. Nothing was readily available due to covid. The deck has been in for over a year in all seasons in my area. 100 degree heat to below zero temps/snow, 2 hurricanes and a tornado. No issues at all! I think it passed the durability test 👍🏻

      you should always leave a gap between composite decking as the product can extract in warmer weather, so if joints are butted they will buckle

    Did you add fascia to this deck or leave it with the bare wood look? I'm debating on just painting the structural area white instead of adding fascia due to the grooved bottoms of the Fiberon Goodlife. I don't think I can add fascia under it unless I make it flush with the deck boards which I don't like the looks of that method.

    Very well done! I have a question though. Instead of putting in two thinner boards that you had to cut on each side, why not just put one thin board against the siding/house? I know that’s nitpicking. It’s really not even noticeable the way you did it. It looks outstanding!

    You won't end up with sliver if you frame your deck properly and do yourself a little math. Remember, planning is everything and seeing the dreaded rip is a pet peve of mine nice job though looks great how you made it look better but not perfect ive always put rip up against house In the past but that looks great on a landing. • @fixitwithzim
      @fixitwithzim  Před 2 lety

      I’m not sold in joist tape. This deck was originally built in 96. Joists still perfect without tape. Ripped up deck boards a few weeks ago on a deck built in the early 80’s. Joists were in great shape, reused all the framing for the new boards. Who knows. Sometimes new stuff isn’t always better

    How to not cut trex! People you must leave a 1/16” gap around your cut for expansion. Otherwise your seams will buckle under pressure on really hot days. That’s step one!

    The final job looks very cheap. The other method is to use plugs the same color as the boards to hind the screws or use fasteners where no screws are used at all.
    The last solution being the best.

      @@fixitwithzim I'm in process of redoing the deck where I just move to and trying out the tape because original build of deck 1 foot over dirt and had sides completely cover in and trapping all moisture rotting a lot of the pt joists and pt deck boards never being able to dry out. Now recovering with Trex and adding lots of ventilation on sides so I hope it works. But where every screw was countersunk on top let a small puddle of water to sit and leak thru and saturate top of joist and rot.
