    Very good video. I'm about to build my own deck and this is definitely my guide. One quick question on the picture frame edge board. You've installed it with 0 gap, butting against each other where the split is. Is that okay? composite deck boards are known for expansion from end to end, hence recommending in the spec sheet to add variable gap depending on the temperature at installation.

    So what would people suggest using if you are doing this but with actual deck boards not composite, in terms of fasteners and plugging the holes if you can? I'd love composite instead of actual lumber, but the size of my deck cost ~$40k+ just for the composite top boards (yes its a massive deck easily 1500 sq ft)

  • @markemimajeaustralia4569

    Did you install fascia board? Why did you not use a fix system where the clips are hidden in the gaps between the decking boards? The clip slides into the grooved edge of the board and is screwed into the joist. This is a much easier installation and avoids to put the caps into the screw holes.

    If the wood joists aren't going to last 50 years, does it make sense to spend all the money for the composite deck boards that last 50 years but will have to be pulled up to replace rotten joists? • @calebfuller4713
      @calebfuller4713 Před 2 lety +1

      If the deck is attached to the house with a ledger board, you need to be careful with flashing and other details to ensure you are not letting water get into the house frame. This is a free-standing deck which is not actually attached to the house so there is not really any issue.
      The deck was built mostly over an existing concrete patio which I would hope was graded to slightly slope away from the house, so any water going under the deck will just run off that patio.
