Very conscientious building. I appreciate all of the thought taken and implemented in this video.
Thank you 😊
Wow! Thanks for the tips! I will be upgrading my deck soon and this was pretty helpful!
No, It's for nothing. If you do it, well, just money and time installation to the roof.
That deck looks amazing!

So nice to see your work. I like the fact you put a lot of work in details. I build fences and also want it to look near perfect for the eyes of customer. Also it's the best advertising system :)

Is there a reason you don’t put the miter tight ??

Fun music. Good job.

Standard install. Looks good. What was the trick?
The only criticism i would give is the use of deckmate screws for the structure underneath. Deckmate screws are great for deck planks. But deckmate screws dont not have a lot of shear strength. They weaken easily and will shear off. Use different screws.
I really admire your deck and talent. May I ask where did you buy the deck beams -what material and size - if you don't mind me asking.
All from Dunn Lumber.
How come you don't gap you but joints? You did on the 45 miter but not at the but joints you put them tight. Hows that work for expansion? This thing looks great buy the way. A lot of people stay away from boarders on decks because of the extra framing work that is required and it's so expensive. If you dont have a video on framing for a deck with boarders you should do one your work is spot on. Nice job
This deck has 15 part of video from start to finish.
Pre drill #1
Where did you find the long boards with no grooves? I have some Brown composite I'm fixing to put down and can only find 8 foot non grooved boards for trim? Can't find fascia any longer than 12 foot either?
All materials from Dunn Lumber store.
amazing job. very good. what is the name of the track? love ur videos
Some track from Modern Talking
Do you keep the space in the miter the same as the space between the boards? I'm doing a double picture frame and not sure how best to deal with the miters. I don't think having them completely tight will work as they'll open up in the future. What is your approach? Also, have you ever mitered scalloped boards (ie not solid all the way through - they have those dado type groves along the bottom. My thought is to maybe rip some wood to fit into those channels and then crew in through that for a more solid hold.
Was the same space, 1/4" approximately. Never work with other types of flooring, can't say anything's.
Sometimes I do corners without space to better look like solid continued wood edge/frame. Like in this deck: How I build the Deck 12' x 20'. czcams.com/play/PL9fyWqL02lqkUWshlwsCqzBcRR8BEMETo.html
Soooooooooo........................ how do you do it?
Im just curious if you had any strength issues when you butt two composite boards together on a single joist?
No, I didn't see any problems.
You are so good. Are you near phila

I appreciate the quality and speed of your work, well done.however I live in a built-up area, and my neighbours simply would not tolerate that music playing so loud, so I'm afraid it's a no from me, thank you.

Those plastic decks are great at charging people that walk on the with static electricity. The mfgs need to fix this issue.

What kind of wood did you frame this with? Never seen wood with all the little slots on top? Looks like good material
Not a wood, this is composite material. Plastic.
Pressure treated wood frame. Composite decking.
Great job 👍 some decks I've seen on utube have closed the miter corner, you a have a gap . Is the gap for expansion?
Mostly for pine tree needles. A lot of trees around this deck.
i was thinking on the gap I’m learning how to make decks and the decks that i already done i didn’t left no gaps and its a trex that would be a problem ?
@@walbertHidalgo Trex specifically states to leave 1/8" gap between all decking boards, including butt joints/corner mitres, for seasonal expansion and contraction. No gaps = no warranties.
Timbertech Azek guide explicitly states, “Do not leave a gap at butt joints, splices or miters.” I don’t know why though since a lot folks apparently do and if John Dough is correct, Trex specifies the opposite.
@Mick W There are so many different types of composite. some still have some percentage of wood in the core. there is no wood in azek. Ive installed a lot of Azek, we do follow the direction to make mitres tight, ive never seen them open up. very tight to this day on decks ive re inspected.
Please post normal speed video. I want to learn from you. Thanks.
Will check if I have original file.
Is there a fence painted onto his fence? Asking for a friend.
How do those mitre corners look after a few years?
I can't tell you. A year ago, the house was sold to other people. Maybe some day I can stop by and ask to check it out.
No xlips i thought that was the hole point of composite i like wood in the summer its better that composite is fire and wood is just as good make sure your miters are tight always bevels miters coping has to always be tight very important even with azek and composite materials and pvc it does shrink i work with it everyday
i've seen azak shrink to a 1/2" gap on rake boards, would be very disturbing for such a pricey product
Never make your mitres tight. They'll expand 100% over time.
Wow great work. Like the song what’s the name of the song???
I thought you were going to show how to cut 45 on a deck. But i got a dance video.
Just dance and cut with miter saw ;-)
Guess I'm the only one who noticed he did all his pre drilling with a driver and put in the screws with a drill
You right. I don't like noise from driver when it overload with strews in.
Drivers will easily snap/break a screw.
In my experience.... Drills are much more gentle on screws
@@freddienz68 You absolutely right. And also I can control speed with drill and deep of the screw head in the board.
@@FixitAll 👍👍👍
@@FixitAll i rarely use the driver any more because of the noise. the new brushless drills are so powerful you don't need to.

Music hype 4real
Not sure about using the screws to secure the 45 bracing, not concerned about the sheer strength overtime?
That was owner design.
@@FixitAll ah
Would face screws not prevent the board from expansion and shrinkage?
5 and a half years have passed since its construction. The customer does not notice any shortcomings or changes in the design. So I can say that everything is fine.
@@FixitAll thank you for your quick reply. Sorry if it came across as i was questioning your work, it was certainly not my intention. I am just trying to understand why manufacturers are telling us to leave a gap for expansion, but at the same time approve face screws which is counter intuitive. I thought the screws would lock the board in place and resist any movement thus putting stress on the boards. And the Camo system is similar to face screws interfering with expansion. Am I understanding it right?
@@b3arwithm3 I think the boards don't create as much movement and don't expand as much as to put stress on the screws. Natural wood boards are much more susceptible to expansion. However, they are screwed on and last for decades.
@@FixitAll does the temperature varies a lot in your area? Yes wood boards move much more. I think they buckle up because they can't move horizontally. That's the #1 problem I see with wood decks. Nails aren't flush because the boards cupped up.
I’ve seen a lot of 45° corners where they are flush together, touching each other. I see you have a gap between the 45s. Reason for that??
After years, the frame and floors board will move back and forth in winter-summer temperatures and no one guarantee 45 will stay together. So owner asking make a 1/4" gap like all floors between boards. In this way it will look similar all the time.
@@FixitAll that’s what I like best is that the gaps in the 45s look just like all the other boards. Very clean look.
How come your drip cap from the house ledger isn't on top of the deck boards?
Never saw it in floor materials.
Plus - this type of installation is a owner choice, i just done it by his instruction.
All water and pine needles will drop thru the hole 4:04 on the ground and never collect between wall and floor.
The pollock way, no hidden fasteners.
Owner design and bought the material and style installation.
Are the joists 16 inches apart?
Yes.
Double up your joists where two boards meet.
At this way i need a 100s double boards. Owner pass this idea and say just use screws from top.

why you screwing all from the top..use deck fasteners and hide screws...
Yes, you can, just add more joist support to each board ends. Thats was owner plan to reduce work with extra joist to support.
00:37 Hot summer day? Is this the reason for no gap?
This is the owner plan. They like to see continuous board, like one whole piece.

Just wait for expansion and contraction it will look like crap
Not fair. Not using wood
Hope you didn't build that deck framing with all screws, not up to any code AND much weaker than using nails. Good for a few years but screws don't have the structural or shear strength of nails. Also should have used rubber joist tape to protect the joists from sitting water. Won't rot nearly as fast. Even with treated lumber.....
All was done by plan approved in city and after building was signed by inspector.
Thanks for advice any way!
Nails may be good for interior work but unless they are treated and ring or spiral they corrode from pressure treated lumber and will snap off or back out. I have a ‘code approved’ deck on my house to prove it.
