- Meta has shown off four of their most advanced prototype headsets:
- Butterscotch, an ultra-high PPD "retinal resolution" headset
- Half Dome - A headset with automatic varifocal optics
- Starburst - a HDR headset with up to 20,000 nits peak brightness
- Holocake 2 - A super-thin headset with a holographic optical stack
As well as their futuristic concept design, Mirror Lake.

The sheer advancement of all those headsets is insane!
Nicely made video. Great summary
woah loved that ss lens hope we'll see that in something soon!!
Great content! Keep going!
When can we get our hands onto these??
I really wanna see more improvements on the FOV
Meta did make one of their prototypes 144 FOV which surprised me
Yeah I noticed that FOV spec was only mentioned for the initial super hi PPD prototype, and none of the rest.
Another point not mentioned is that the race to solid state batteries for greater EV range will strongly benefit standalone VR by reducing the weight and/or volume of the battery module.
Another possibility in the long term is dynamic visible light metalenses that can resolve the image from the display while also altering the focal distance - such devices have been demonstrated at the lab level, and while far (5-10 yrs) from mass production they offer a lot of promise for low volume optics.
@@mnomadvfx im sorry but can you explain in a simpler form? cause i'm still new to vr lmao, also isn't super hi ppd the one that moves the lenes?
I need this for my SAD.
I live in Scotland where the winters get pretty dark so I totally get where you're coming from. Hopefully we'll soon enough be able to give ourselves a blast of realistic summer sunlight whenever we want 😁
First! I love gaming and VR
