In the last three years, our new LIFT artists Julia Michaels has positioned herself as a songwriting force in pop music. The 23-year-old, who grew up in Santa Clarita, California, had a hand in crafting “Miss Moving On” for Fifth Harmony, and ever since, she’s aligned herself with some of the biggest names in music, clocking co-writing credits with Justin Bieber (“Sorry”), Hailee Steinfeld (“Love Myself”) and Selena Gomez (“Hands To Yourself”). Jason Derulo recorded her “Trade Hearts” and gave her a feature vocal on his ‘Everything Is 4’ album. Michaels has been writing poetry since childhood, and when her mom brought a piano into their home when Julia was 12, she began to blend her words with music. These days, the depth of her artistry is being recognized by critics and fans alike, and she’s not only crafting hits for others, but blossoming into the performing artist she’s always wanted to be. Her first big show was on a global stage, closing the 2016 Olympics in Brazil with Kygo, singing “Carry Me” to fans around the world. None of that silly..."oh but I love you, forgive me" When you really listen to it, and take in the word's, you can imagine the mental struggle of a long relationship thar has been difficult and full of turmoil, one that has been hard to keep going through with all the hard obstacles. You love that person, you try, but through the emotional exhaustion you question yourself, your resolve, thinking is this really worth it, should we keep trying? All the while remembering the "good times" you have enjoyed together. Do we really want to try and make this work? I can vividly see the back and forth thought process you experience, "should we stay together, should we go our separate ways?" So I ask... All relationships get hard at time's, if you didn't have to work hard for it...would it still be worthwhile?

I have been following Julia since her work with Ian Kirkpatrick back in 2012, before ANYBODY even knew who she was. I even have some of her earliest demos and unreleased tracks. She's come such a long way and deserves every bit of it. She's by far the most influential and deserving artist/singer songwriter in my opinion. Her music is so inspiring and touches so many people in different ways, with her raw and beautiful voice, and personality, so many people can connect with her. She definitely deserves all the best. The way Julia sings this line too, I can really feel the hurt she’s feeling. It’s a constant push and pull relationship. You can sense the difficulty in the relationship when you want to better yourself, but at the same time for some reason you don’t want to put in the effort. I can really see how the relationship is struggling and I always appreciate the rawness Julia gives in her music.

"You can go out with your female friends and i'll be totally fine" this is so relatable for me because at the start of my relationship with my boyfriend i used to trust him with everything. But now i just get really jealous and insecure when he likes another girl's picture or hang out with other females. And i'd yell and be angry with him but really all i wanted was for his attention and love on me and only me.
I went to a Maroon 5 concert and she was the opening act and let me just say she puts in so much emotion when she's singing. As she sang she teared up because she felt so supported and it was so beautiful. She needs more recongnition
