My fiancé has family living in Toronto and we went to visit them last November. We are from the US and but fiancé was born in Vietnam. Their house is now worth 2 million Canadian dollars. It is hella expensive in the big cities but the only thing we got “cheap” was groceries on the bank card cuz of CAD to USD conversion. Never been to Vancouver but saw prices online and just shocked. It is expensive every where now to live.
Best of luck on your journey wherever you choose!

Hello! I totally agree with you with everything. I work 6 days a week and earn a lot compared to when I worked in Japan, but still I always have financial anxiety. I'm leaving Vancouver in few months. It's not worth living here anymore. It's always hard to make decisions to leave a country and go to a different world. I was born and raised in Japan and once I really hated Japan but once I got out of it, I started to like it or could realize good things about the country from differernt perspesticves. I still like Japan and always miss it but I know once I'm back I will want to get out again. Anyway, I HOPE YOU WILL FIND A PLACE YOU CAN HAPPILY LIVE!!! :) GOOD LUCK!!!

Ive just been to Vancouver and I totally get your sentiment about this city. The poverty, drug addiction and crime in certain areas is one of the worst on the continent. There are plenty of pretty neighborhoods and natural beauty nearby but like you said, you gotta work your ass off to even afford a property here. I enjoyed my time in Vancouver as a tourist but moving here is out of the question

I moved away from Vancouver 1.5 years ago. I was there for 17 years. its super expensive. I moved to Calgary and the housing is cheaper than Vancouver but the cost of living is still pretty high too. Maybe when my kids are grown up I will move to Vietnam too

I moved from Surrey, BC to Calgary, AB and it didn't help out. I'm back home in Southeast Asia now. Lower income but at least the weather is way better. We'll see if Canada gets better in the next 5 years.

I was you when I was 24 with multiple jobs living in the same neighborhood in East Vancouver. I had so many low paying crappy jobs I lost count. I knew Vancouver was not for me so I saved up for one year and bought a one way ticket to Asia to make sure I don't easily give up and fly back to Canada. My first ten years in Asia was fast paced, exciting and very rewarding financially. I'm set to retire this year and have no plans to move back to Vancouver even though I can easily afford to retire there.

Lol Quebec is not cheap at all. I’ve done research and been there before, and the only cheap thing there is housing. Groceries, restaurants, gas prices, and taxes are all thru the roof, even worse than bc (groceries and taxes) and Ontario (gas prices and restaurants).

I think you're a bit emotional. Leave these feelings and fear behind, stop overthinking, pack your bags and travel the world. There's so much more outside Canada. Not saying the grass is greener but there's definitely something better. You are young, no kids and commitment. Just leave and explore the world :) you will learn about yourself in all aspects.
