Great to have another point of view from the hidden gems segment. I have about half of these books. Maddie has much more nervous giggles when monologuing instead of conversing with others (like Kristen). Strangely adorable.

Great picks Maddie as always !!! That Outsiders: Wanted series by Judd Winick is so great and that whole period of DC Comics from 2006-2011 Pre New 52 era is amazing so many not only great titles but underrated ones as well.

Love Judd Winick's Outsiders run, I've wanted an omnibus of that for a long time. His Green Lantern and Green Arrow comics are great too. Honestly shocked that DC hasn't collected his Under the Red Hood story in a nice deluxe edition yet, or even a small omni including the other Jason Todd appearances he wrote.
The old Milestone comics so deserve the deluxe edition or omni treatment. I've held off on the compendium because I don't really like that format but I should probably pick them up just to be supportive.
I picked Outsiders off the shelf as it was coming out. I dug it up until around Infinite Crisis. After that it felt Judd Winick was hampered by the rotating artists during One Year Later. I felt like those first 12-14 issues were some of the best DC was putting out at the time. It was fun being reminded of going to the shop on Wednesday to pick this up.
I put Upgrade Soul in my amazon cart the last time I saw you recommend it, where it's been for the past month or so. But this time I just ordered it. Thanks for the rec.
Heavy Vinyl looks interesting. The art work and style seems cool. Heathen was a book I was slightly intrigued by and now seeing a bit of the artwork in this video might make me check it out. Thanks for your recommendations!

Wonder Maddie, if you like books by TKO Studios, I would recommend Sara by Garth Ennis. Great show and thanks for telling us about these reading gems.
I thought this was definitely a lot of fun. Never heard at all of this Outsiders run so definitely had a great time hearing how much Maddie loved it!
Edit: Wanted to add it owns seeing a woman perspective on comics and finding out about a whole bunch of cool-looking stuff I've never even heard of. Would love more of these!

Good humor. Read a lot of what you shown. So glad that Milestone is back in force rigth now. It is special. I wanted to see the art inside Upgraded soul because it does influence if I buy a book or not when I don't know the writer.
Love outsiders by winick. Great time period of DC with Johns and DC at the height of their powers.

Why had none of Judd Winnick's work been collected in Hardcover? Not even his return of the Red Hood arch, which dc even made into a animated movie
Piqued my interest on the outsiders. Loved winnick's work on exiles.
When you talk about Graphic Novels, it helps when you show them, instead of the facecam.

As a fairly new viewer to NMC I was surprised to see someone besides Omar and his wife hosting a show. Wow, I’m glad I saw this. Maddie is intelligent, passionate and full of knowledge about so many books. She’s also gorgeous and I could not stop watching. I’m definitely going to check out most of these books she showcased. Thanks for a great video which highlights a lot of indie work beyond the big publishers.

My recommendation is probably well loved, but it was published so long ago that it is not talked about anymore. I think this is an underground comic classic: Ed - The Happy Clown. I just recently bought it as a hard cover and i haven't laughed so much for ages when I have been reading a comic book :)
Heavy Vinyl was great. I've got Upgrade Soul on my comixology unlimited wishlist, I'll get to it soon.

The only one I'd even even heard of was The Outsiders, However I just ordered the Heathen Omnibus, as that sounded really interesting
I read the first TPB of Lady Mechanika and I liked it. Good story and great art, not sure why it doesn't get talked about much.

A recent read of mine that I’d think you’d like is Minor Threats. It’s about 2nd tier villains.
It’s like a what if Joker killed Jason Todd and went on a rampage and the other superheroes are panicking because they’ll loose their reputation. So they help him look for the killer.
Mind you this is not a DC book. But you can tell who these characters are representing.
It’s currently on issue 2. I’m sure it’s available digitally.
A book I've loved for years that my circle doesn't talk about is Neonomicon by Moore and Burrows. Just an awesome mature readers book that delves into the Lovecraft Mythos. I discovered Jacen Burrows in this book and have followed him since. Great stuff.
Was Scales and Scoundrels re-issued at TKO, or a continuation of the Image series? because my library has books from Image 2018 and also "Vol 2" TKO 2021

The compendiums are over $100 in australia. I'd be on board otherwise.
The one I took away most from this list was Winick's Outsiders run. Definitely going to see if I can get into that run. However, I can't say I've come across the trades when I've been to Ollie's in my past hauls.
UPDATE: Bought a lot containing the entire run.
I loved the Monkeys Island games. The live action Pirates of the Caribbean was good too 🤣
I think the most underrated comic is Ultra Mega. I just hope we get more of it soon!
I was so disappointed in Heathen. The last 3 issues were rushed and completely different feel to the first 9. (Obviously the creator stopped doing the art in the last three also)

A really solid selection of books.... extremely happy to see more love being given to milestone which is easily my favourite superhero universe and was inclusive before inclusivity was even a thing....and quite possibly the first comic universe to have gay and transgender characters represented in a very non preachy way ( blood syndicate and deathwish). Their new range of titles are equally excellent.
Great picks I'm just wondering why most of the picks dont have omnis or compendiums at this point it's not like they cant get a kickstarter for them that would more then likely do very well. Except for Boom they just need to give the people what they want to pay for vs just being lazy.
