I have grown to hate Media Blasters more and more with the passage of time. Not just because of the haphazard localizations of anime that didn't even need to be localized in the first place, but because they're a bunch of bastards that refuse to relicense most of the IPs they snatched up for streaming, including the really good stuff like Tekkaman Blade
Well, Media Blasters *was* considered bankrupt until just recently.
I bought tekkaman on Amazon I believe a number of years back.

This is one of those times when I'd be really curious to know what the general conception of this story is like in Japan. Could the original dub save it? Or could the manga it was based on be viewed in a better light, if maybe it was better written and this particular adaptation simply failed? I have been entertained by this video, but now I feel a yearning to be EDUCATED...
If Jin's hair was curlier than spikier, I would have thought it was Amuro Ray making proclamations of beating a mutant baby out of someone's womb. Jin's 1970-ish character design just adds to the likeness to Amuro's One Year War era design, even Jin's modern era clothes look like Amuro's civilian outfit, minus the yellow sweater.

Ah, the good old fashioned insanity of a terrible 2000s anime. Really makes for a refreshing change from the usual mid-tier insanity of a modern anime.
There is something to be said for really going for the gold when it comes to being absolutely cracked out of your head in terms of well... everything.
People, I swear a decent amount of Shotaro Ishinomori’s works are good.
It’s just that incompetent morons like Eiji Tsuburaya’s own son and a few people who do some adaptations of his works are just cashing in on a dead man who had more talent in his drawing hand than the corporate suits trying to replicate it.
Yeah, to think that the Co.Creator of Godzilla and Creator of Ultraman would have a son who was too stupid to see that Working on this story would be a nightmare instead of a Goldmine!
See now I'm curious- is Genma Wars a manga he drew that is WAY better than this adaptation... or is the story just as off-putting here and when you say most of his works are good you're NOT counting Genma Wars?

In the god-awful Anime film Ultraman: The Adventure Begins animated by Studio Sign and Ashi Productions and produced by Tsuburaya Productions with writers from Hanna-Barbera, the whole thing was a mess from the start. It was supposed to be an anime TV series but then turned into a film with soon-to-be Exosquad creator Jeff Segal called in to fix the script to make it from an unfinished TV series to a film. And later Jeff to have his name removed from the credits at his own request. And after seeing the film I can see why Jeff wanted his name removed from the film's credits.
this is just further proof of what i have always know, ishimori-sensei was really, really fucked up on the head.
Considering how many pages he drew in his life, the lack of sleep, and the pressure.. Yeah. That is not shocking

As for Gemma Wars itself, it's bad and all but you've covered anime that are waaaay worse than it in certain categories.
Insane- Mad Bull 34, Sins of the Sisters, Jungle De Ikou, Very Private Lesson and of course Ninja Resurrection.
Hateful- Doomed Megalopolis, De:Vadasy, Genocyber and especially Gantz.
Insulting/Infuriating- 8-Man After, Venus Wars, A Wind Named Amnesia, Virgin Fleet, Kikaider the Animation and Pilot Candidate.
Poorly Animated- Lady Death, Space Travelers, Master of Martial Hearts and most Korean chop jobs.
Terrible Adaptations- Galaxy Express 999, Netflix Bebop and In the Aftermath
Bad Voice Acting- Landlock and The Tokyo Project
But at the very least Gemma Wars isn't boring so it's far away from the likes of Odin, Harlock Saga, The Dark Myth and Marriage.
That last chapter needs the Gonk playing over it.

I've been waiting for this for so long. Since it was referenced in Harmagedon, since I saw it on the shelf, since I first found the channel. I came across this series years ago at an FYE that was going of business. I got the whole series' dvds for cheap and thought I was in for a treasure. Good god...
And now I come across this finally being released at the right time. Home at nearly 2am after getting back from a local death metal band at our hometown bar they started in, and now facing weak neck and legs and stinging eyes from headbanging too hard. And then drained from just vomiting earlier cuz I headbanged too hard with only 2 beers but too much spicy food before I rolled in to rock.

With the mention of "Garzey's Wing" at 7:39 and 35:37, I have something to say that I have wanted to get off my chest for a long time; but couldn't find the right time to do so. This probably isn't the best place to do that, but at this point, it is either now or never.
I hate to be an Oancitizen, but when you gave your .Hack//SIGN review the moniker "The Origins of Isekai," that is historically inaccurate. Chronologically speaking, the origin of the isekai genre dates back as far as the Japanese folktale of Urashima Taro. But the real kicker? The first isekai anime to ever air in Japan was in 1983 and is known as "Aura Battler Dunbine," and while Dunbine would not be available to watch outside of Japan until 2003; it had a spin-off anime that was released in North America around 1996. "What is that spin-off's name?" one person (at the most) in this comment section might be wondering? It is, wait for it; ......"Garzey's Wing". I swear that I am not joking when I say that the anime OVA we know as "Garzey's Wing" is the first isekai anime to have reached North American shores.
