Fun Fact: Demonik was the game used in the movie "Grandma's Boy". The movie is about a game development studio and Demonik was the game the main character was working on.
I was actually surprised he didn't mention it
@@Nick-4K I was super suprised also. I jumped down here to state it myself but @Sinyckle already did. Pretty large piece of info they skipped there if you asked me.
scrolling down i see a bunch of people already said it too lol
We all had the same idea lol. Definitely one of my all time favorite stoner comedies, my family as well, we always watch it when I go home to visit.
I always thought the game from that movie looked so good and had such a cool art direction. Used to be obsessed with it. SO pissed it was an actual game we never got.
Shit I should’ve scrolled, literally just posted the same thing haha
The viewer experience on this video:
*gets invested in project*
*heart broken finding out it was canceled*
*repeat for 45 minutes*
From what I heard about ScaleBound is that when microsoft was helping PG fund the game they secretly used the money to develop a different game behind MS back and lets just say Microsoft was not too happy about it and shut down the game immediately after finding out.
To be honest, not wrong on their side. Platinum screwed this.
Still sad and mad it never happend
Was the secret game Astral Chain?
@Rollbrand370 Idk if it's Astral Chain, but I'm guessing that's the one since it was developed around the same time as ScaleBound. Also, even after everyone was giving Microsoft shit about canceling the ScaleBound. PG was actually defending Microsoft, saying they take full responsibility for ScaleBound's failure. Also, Phil Spencer not commenting about it made things even more suspicious. So that's probably most likely what happened to SB
@@Rollbrand370I thought it was Nier Automata. Could be wrong but that's what I heard.
@@route77productionsIt was Nier and that time It was PS Exclusive 😂
Being a fan of Fable, Fable Legends getting cancelled was something that really bummed me out. I was really hyped for it because the idea of getting to play as a villain controlling minions and the nature of the quest that the other players were undertaking was a pretty cool idea. The open beta looked promising and it, along with Scalebound, would have been a pretty big driving factor for me purchasing an Xbox One instead of making the transition to PC gaming at the time.
Fable Legends was cancelled because it wasn't even Fable. It was a MOBA reskinned later by Lionhead and, after they blew a lot of budget, still was filled with numerous issues and absolutely nothing to do in the game. Lionhead deviated so far from "fable" in this game, and that's why it was cancelled. It was unrecognizable from the "Fable" branding, with zero affiliation to the series. They coined it, not as a spin off, but a mainline entry. And there was zero story (despite claiming it was under development), and only the MOBA.
It was cancelled, from literal online sources upon cancellation, because it was universally disliked by the public and Microsoft.
@@itsJoshWashington? wrong as someone who played it. It was not a moba 👍
Same man I really wanted to play it looked fun
It was weird, I played the closed alpha. If you ever played the multiplayer of Dragon Age Inquisition it was a lot like that.
@@Prawnsacrifice ?? I played it. I hated it. No one liked it. It was a MOBA. Even it's freaking wiki says it is. You had 4 characters with the "DM" as the villain making the enemies appear. It was horrible. It was multiplayer only. There was no story. There was no "fable". It wasn't an RPG. Are you dumb?
The cancellation of Scalebound still breaks my heart to this day. If it hadn’t been killed off maybe the Xbox One would’ve sold at least 90 million units instead of ultimately 60 million units.
Going by what they showed it looked like a mess. It would've bombed. Platinum either makes top notch games or absolute gutter trash, no in-between with them
Xbox one sold around 51 million units
The whole cancellation of scalebound is what killed the Xbox one for me. My dad literally bought the system just out of anticipation for it and then platinum killed it by saying that there’s “not enough hype for the game” or that “it was too fast paced” for them to put out
Sixty. Million. Can you even actually fathom the size of sixty million?
If scalebound released and was a good game xbox still wouldn't have sold 90 million
The HALO Mega Blocks Game is a MASSIVE MISSED OPPOURUNITY the demo they had looked incredibly fun and would have competed with TT's Lego games.
Isn't that kind of like saying mouthwash is going to compete with scotch? I mean you could make the argument but...no.
@@leviwarren6222you're smoking
@@nononoohfuck Wait a minute, are you actually defending mega bloks? Sure, they may not be woke like Lego but their product sucks.
It’s a shame Scalebound never came out. It looked like it could’ve been something special
I still bet that they are going to reuse the IP but please not this stupid multiplayer crap. That was a insta turn off for me. Multiplayer games are meh, an niche as not all will be good
One of the reasons why the Xbox One was nicknamed “The console with no games”
@@MTTT19and they said Wii U is a failure when that console has a ton of freaking games its just it became GameCube 2.0 also shitty marketing and name
How do you mention Demonik without talking about Grandma's Boy? It's a 2006 stoner comedy that is centered around a stoner worker as a game tester who is making his own game, that game being Demonik. They used real footage from the game and made it look pretty good as well. It was also supposed to be a movie tie in with Clive Barker, also called Demonik, which also got cancled when Barker pulled out. So Demonik had a lot more intresting stuff surrounding it that you could/should have mentioned.
Oddworld: The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Klot deserves more mention. It has a working prototype floating around somewhere (Just Add Water is said to have a build), has some story outlines known, and EA drama behind the scenes.
After enjoying Stranger's Wrath I saw this in a magazine and got super excited. But reality gut punched me.
@@saintxrage2311 Tell me about it. It's sad we'll never get it as it was (if at all).
@@shlakenjake I wish we could have experienced it as it could've been, but hopefully these last two remakes of Oddworld give Inhabitants the spark to make something similar.
Oddworld has so much cancelled material. That would make a good video by itself
@@wkody7 Really? How many projects did they cancel? And were they announced like Fangus was?
I played fable legends during it's alpha run and all I can say why. It had such a fun feel, rough yes but fun.
My favorite game 😢
I played it during the invite run and it was horrible. No one liked it, idk if you're just remembering your time playing it or something, but Christ I remember everyone saying on the fable forum (i believe it was lionhead forums) how bad it was, and I remember distinctly getting into a party chat with numerous people who hated it, too. It wasn't even a Fable game. It was a MOBA with no ties to Fable.
@itsJoshWashington im starting to question you know what a moba is josh.....
@@Prawnsacrifice Have you played Fable Legends? It was a moba clone, it's rival was suppose to be LoL & SMITE.
@itsJoshWashington 😅😅 no it wasnt it fable ledgends was a asymmetric multiplayer game most definitely wasnt a moba 😅
@10:59 fun fact: the primary developer working on the game built it from the ground up while living at his grandmother's house. The studio the dev was working at stole the game from him, but he proved it was stolen from him when his grandmother beat the "prodigy" studio owner in a 1v1 on demonik multiplayer. His weed dealer's monkey also drove him to the studio for the 1v1.
Demonik was also HEAVILY featured in Grandma's Boy as a game developed in secret for the OG Xbox by the protagonist Alex. In the commentary they make a joke about the game.being on the 360 and the movie coming out in 2005 but getting not 360s for the movie do to budget. Fantastic stoner comedy. It's my favorite movie. Highly recommend.
I really wish Phantom Dust 2 was a real thing. The Xbox/PS2 era was the best era in gaming.
/gamecube/dreamcast
Always weird hearing someone mention Pirates of the Burning Sea. One of my cousins I was raised with worked on that game as their first project out of college. I don’t know if they went in the credits as their actual name or their code name they used back then. But he was featured in a dev log about how he nearly choked to death on a steak.
The fall of Rare is one of the most unforgivable storylines in Xbox's history
You forgot the most important one: Cry On by Mistwalker (Lost Odyssey) for the Xbox 360. There is even an official trailer reveal by Microsoft Srudios.
Fun fact: Demonik had gameplay shown in the movie called “Grandma’s Boy”. I thought that game was fake haha.
Need to do one for PlayStation if possible
Yea
There was a game called Freefall 3050AD that was either close to finished or possibly complete that never came out for the original Xbox. I believe it would have come out after the 360 had launched, and it wouldn't have done that well so it was shelved. There's leaked versions floating around the internet. It was actually a port of a Nuon game (an MPEG-2 DVD decoder chipset that could also play games).
Demonik ended up being used as footage for a game "in development" for the movie Grandma's Boy.
Demonik was ACTUALLY A REAL GAME!!?? Even as a kid I always wondered how they managed to develop a game like that especially for a low budget movie FROM 2005. Makes me appreciate Grandma's Boy even more.
It's amazing how Turn 10 is the only Xbox Developer to not have a cancelled project.
Maybe I missed it, but you forgot to mention some of the titles made by Press Play under Microsoft, a big one being Project Karoo from 7+ years ago that would eventually be revived under a new studio being Flashbulb Games after MS let them keep the assets on leaving. and given a new title being trailmaker releasing on PC but also returned to xbox a few years after. It's still a great video, though, and I'm still holding out hope for Scalebound.
I still have project spark and that conker campaign. Gonna sell my Xbox with it on it some day once it becomes a collectors item to be able to play it
Fable Legends looked cool? You may be one of the only people I've heard say that.
Legends was a game nobody at the time wanted, and had next to no hype. The only reason its even remembered is to be listed in fanboy arguments about all the games MS canceled 😅
In reality, game was canceled in beta because nobody cared about it.
Literally wrote basically a dissertation on the video with this. No one wanted that game to be made, absolutely no one, especially when it was allowed for beta/alpha access. Everyone universally hated it, with Lionhead having to close their forums after all the hate threads popped up. I remember that distinctly, as I was actually pissed that they turned the beloved Action RPG series into a freaking MOBA that, even by itself, was horrible in design.
The game was filled with bugs, was "promised to have a story", yet there was zero evidence of story even being involved.
The game (Fable Legends) was also cancelled because it was a massive waste of money for a reskin MOBA that everyone hated, even Microsoft lol. I remember they had a "live player count" for the beta testing in the game, and seeing the number in double digits at one point. It was sad, but it's true: Lionhead did not make a Fable game when they created "Fable Legends". They made an entirely new, horrible IP, branded it "Fable", and sold it to the market as being "Fable".
Literally hilarious when you realize that RocketSloth did zero actual research for this video and simply collected a large group of games cancelled and made up things about each game based on quick Google searches. The one I laughed about was "the cancelled Halo game by Black Tusk Studio", which in 2012 they were rumored to be working on a PC game, which turned into Gears. The difference: Rocketsloth said it was "Actually Halo", and the article claimed that it was trying to "be what Halo did to the consoles, but for the PC". Essentially, claiming that it would revolutionize the PC FPS market. That development studio renamed themselves to The Coalition, and before working on Gears, they were created as "Microsoft Studios Vancouver", which they were originally hired to develop Microsoft Flight Simulator, which was cancelled in 2012.
22:44 i remember the first time i saw that cutscene, i burst out laughing because i almost couldn't believe that that window jump had ACTUALLY just happened
The fact that you didn't cover B. C. for the original Xbox baffles me. I remember being a kid and that game getting tons of coverage and being so hyped.
Now this is a birthday gift! thank you RocketSloth for the amazing video! :D
I remember 3 of the 5 PS3 launch exclusives were cancelled which is crazy. The hardware were so hard to develop for that 90% of the games had to me made on Xbox 360 first the first years. This is why there is so many bad ports on PS3.
I played the Fable Legends Beta it looked so good for that console generation. Also og Phantom dust is free now on xbox
That Demonik game was also featured in the movie Grandma's Boy
Canceled exclusives for Xbox Series : everything
😂😂
Y'all remember that game called Apec or something like that. Played as an Acorn. For the original Xbox. Was showcased in the official magazine
I wanted to play Demonik ever since it was announced for the original xbox. We even got teased with it in Grandma’s Boy. They made the game look so cool.
Scalebound was the other big title I really wanted to play
Rare Ware being almost deleted from the scene along with a lot of other notable developers in the late 1990s and early 2000s and being merged into larger companies really ruined some of the magic or spirit that old gaming had.
Before major companies saw games as solely money makers and took them based on statistics of what consumers are into like nowadays with everything being a PUBG rebrand. Back in the day you had people devoting 5-10 years to make one game with one plot and when it came out they put everything into it the only thing that limited them was the time they produced it in.
Now adays you have developers with seeming no limitations from graphics and audio perspective however you practically see the same game year after year. Because again it’s based on market data everyone wants to make money not take chances I wish we’d go back to that era and perhaps we will someday.
Back to when games had spirit and charm.
Gamepass has basically made devs feel more comfortable doing different things. Try some of the games in there
@@cooljoshua4959and Game Pass made devs content mess like RedFall because they know ppl will play it for free anyways so they made a bad and buggy game
thats why GP is 50/50 for me also many 3rd party devs will not all-in in the service cuz they will lose some profit
Outer wilds looks good, I hope they don't that away
I was looking forward to scalebound. That was the biggest let down. And I'm still upset it never went anywhere.
We need someone to make this game!
I hope to see Scalebound coming back as a single player hack and slash game with cutting edge technology for the Xbox Series or the next generation of Xbox consoles.
Platinum Games are really good at making games like that, or maybe they could get in contact with Kamiya since he's unemployed at the moment and provide him with an studio to work on it.
Halo mega Bloks game would of been cool and I see halo mega Bloks or cheep version of it in Argos catalogue.
Still Got my fable legend artbook. Was surprised that they published it
Surprised you didn't mention how Phantom Dust 2's trailer randomly had a Halo Wars poster in it haha
It should be noted that Demonik (11:01) played a significant role in the film Grandmas Boy.
I beta tested Fable Legend and nobody is missing out 😂
Dang, that tttotttem game looked like it would cause headaches lol
The background music in the first 3 minutes goes kinda hard, anybody got a link? 😎
Aww man. Just now hearing of the Mutant Chronicles game for the first time. I definitely would have bought an Xbox just to play that if it had released
RIP scalebound, I miss it more knowing it's platinum that were making it
Platinum Games was the reason it was canceled in the first place. Because of embezzlement and liying to MS and their shady business practices
I’ve heard about demonik always intrigued me but it was a cool premise for some people. Could have been something cool in my eyes.
Is that the Megaranger theme song playing in the background?! 4:32
I love these type of videos
Theres was supposed to be a kung fu chaos sequel? Damn i loved that game
I remember 10-15 years ago watching a video of a cancelled game called ghost boy I think. It was for the og xbox I believe and showed a ghost character walking around a cemetary. I haven't been able to find that video or anything about it since. Anyone know what I'm talking about? and no it isn't the ghost game featured in this vid
Was it called Rain? If that's it, it's downloaded only on ps3 🤔
0:47 A dinosaur game? those are dragons
Demonik looks sick, any other games out there that look like that ?
There's Infernal Hell's Vengeance, Second Sight, Psi-Ops The Mindgate Conspiracy
@@bamban_garcia5562 ty for the recommendations, i shall look into them!
I need help looking for a canceled xbox 360 project called “virtual girl” ? It was supposed to let you make stickers and shirts and have a social aspect to it but got canceled because they didnt want people selling the own virtual stickers or something I wanted to know about it and if it actually existed, thank you
One of the reasons I don't get hyped for games until they're out & I know they're good
Me: I don't like hearing about games until they're out of maybe like a week away
Others: Why, because you don't like spoilers?
Me: Let me tell you about a game trailer for The Division....
In all seriousness though, yeah. The only series I'll preorder any more is Far Cry, and idk if that'll last (depends on how the next one is)
I remember Halo 2 promised to let us shoot guns while driving the Mongoose ATV. That STILL hasn't happened
You missed B.C. and true fantasy online
I remember me and my friends being excited for that game.
Man. It must be so fun to have a xbox.
This was the Xbox one era so its normal to have things messed around.
Unless i missed it you did not mention that MMO been made for OG xbox by Level 5 studios.
Dude have u never seen Grandma’s Boy!?? Demonik was actually a potential real game!??? That’s my favorite Steiner comedy ever.
i wantd to play scalbound so bad the ida itself looked epic also i am a huge eragon fan
Wait do i hear an 8 bit version of Megaranger theme at 4:30?!?!
That Halo Megabloks game had potential. Could have been an answer to the Lego games.
They cancelled a game about dragons... and I was pissed!
I loved Konker lore bro
Banjo Threeeie. I know I’m not the only one thinking what I’m thinking. Moonwalk time lol
10:58 isn’t this the game from grandma’s boy. Demonik had a whole movie ad for it and still didn’t come out
11:13 looks like the game from the movie grandmas boy 😂
Demonik was the video game from grandma’s boy the movie just so you know
After True Fantasy Live was canceled, no game cancellation has ever truly bothered me.
I will never not be mad about scalebound
Revolt was fun af
Knights of Decayden looks a lot like Panzer Dragoon
You had to hurt me with reminding me of scalebound
The trailer for the new fable came out a month before this video
How do you talk about Demonik & not mention Grandma’s Boy?!
Microsoft's horrible handling of Rare is why I am worried about every single company that Microsoft eats.
We missed out on Banjo Kazoomie!!!!! The world is cruel truly
11:10 “Remember. It’s my grandson’s game”
Did they ever mention BC for the original Xbox or did I miss it?
Rocketsloth did zero information on the topic, and idk which one of the two that wrote the script -- but they were both woefully BSing most of these. What game were you asking had (or didn't have) BC? Most entries of all the Xbox generations are BC on the consoles now, with the exception of a few that the publisher won't provide the ability to allow it.
@@itsJoshWashington Not Backwards Compatibility, there was a game called BC for the original Xbox that was frequently advertised in OXM before they announced that it had been canceled.
Glad I'm the only one who noticed that.
Demonik? Wasn't that the name of the game the dude was making in Grandma's Boy?
They even used that footage in the movie 🤣🤣🤣
Say what you want about 343 but I'm so glad gearbox didn't get halo
Halo 4 was lame 5 was worse
Microsoft : why are we losing consol wars
Also Microsoft:
I legit thought Voodoo Nights actually released.
This is some Berenstein bears shit. Wtf
6:20 this just kind of sounds like a Souls game
Rip fable legends I wish it was still out
I had Call Of Duty United Offensive on disc tho??? It was a dlc to cod 1 howver back then, it was a second disc.
So we almost got a halo game in unreal engine from the people who would go on to take over the gears of war franchise. Thats crazy.
There was an open world Namco game that was set in Japan that was supposed to be released on the Xbox 360. Have heard nothing since. No sign of it at all.
I want the Halo Megablocks Game and i want it now
I would enjoy seeing scalebound revived
The cancellation of Scalebound is one of the most absurd decisions in gaming history
“Nice deathspiiiiiike.”
I’ve saw a bug in halo infinite once it was funny it was a t posing elite it was with the warhog
Scalebound getting cancelled will forever leave me baffled
Platinum Games wanted to create a single player experience, Microsoft pushed for multiplayer online live service at any cost resulting in a fallout between the two
Man I remember this game with snoop dogg back on the game informer cover fear and respect never got released too. And also the darth maul game 🫠
Still waiting on The Unseen. They never really said of it was canceled or not.
Marathon is balls with shert 1980s graphics
Demonik was the game the main character was making in Grandma's Boy
I wish I could play that one game
Dissapointed with Xbox where are all the games. What a joke
