Beautiful version. You're a great teacher! And I'm with you: we are never too old to learn. I'm 60, and I learn new things everyday. Have a wonderful 2022.
Wonderful...Thank you for joining in! I appreciate your openness to learning new things :-) Happy playing & please subscribe to this channel for more odes like this one 😊🎶
Wow, good job with the harmonica! Playing uke, harmonica, singing, changing the song sheet on the screen, and running a live stream singlehandedly ... that takes some serious skills! It is encouraging to see you setting goals and trying new things along with us :)
Thanks so much Jennifer 🙏 It's a juggling act, but I enjoy it and I REALLY enjoy knowing there's such sweet people out there playing along 😃 🎶 I'll keep at my new goals...drop by drop that bucket will get filled. Happy playing, Stu
Hey Stew,,,, Great playing and singing. The harmonica was a plus. I tried that when I was in high School about 70 years ago. Fun . You did good. Gene in Arizona
Just like the man says, it's taking a little bit of effort, but it's worth it! Those extras are exactly why this is worth tackling. I really appreciate all the extra effort you made to replicate those piano licks, plus that G/G7 run up and down the neck. And I definitely caught that sneaky pinkie-ring finger dance around the D7! Amazing! There's so much to unpack here! Thanks so much!
Thanks so much Tim! I can tell you’re a player who wants to keep on growing (a lifer) 😉🤙 Guessing some other experience in other instruments too? Thanks for watching and being part of this lesson Vid! 🤙🎶🙌👋
@@UkuleleZen So kind! Thanks so much! I'm actually a latecomer, starting ukulele at 60 as the pandemic began. My last dabbling with other instruments (guitar, piano, recorder) was in the Nixon, Ford, and Carter administrations. 🤣 I love listening to lots of different things, but it took me my first year+ on the ukulele to figure out the music I want to *make* and you're doing it here: (mostly) classic rock, strummed for singing PLUS THE RIFFS. Sometimes solos too, especially chord melody style (I'm no shredder), so I can't thank you enough for this one, what you're doing with the recent Beatles, Proud Mary, etc -- exactly the thing, done mindfully, playfully, with compassion for my own very slow start. :-) Thanks again!
pretty Bad Ass on the Uke ,thanks for sharing i thought you completely nailed the entire song FYI the entire Album is one of my Favorite Billy Joel Albums i have family that actually were inBilly Joel’s first band and they remain freinds till this day years ago the guy that was in the band passed away at a fairly young age and Billy dedicated aAlbum in his memory ironically my family was also associated with Billys first wife as they all grew up together in the same area of Long Island and they all still reside in the area today including Billy Joel
Wow...Craig, that's amazing. You have a close connection to thematic for sure! I think Piano Man is one of his best...true it's not the sound of his latter bands, but there's SO many great songs on it -- the Ballad of Billy the Kid, You're my Home, Ain't No Crime...I just love it. Thanks for sharing! Happy jamming, Stu
Thanks Jeremy! I would love that too…sounds like you have some experience with harps I could benefit from 😊 It’s tricky to do both at the same time, but really fun to try ✌️
Thanks for the great lesson. It is great to see you challenging yourself with the harmonica and helps me to keep taking leaps into things that are difficult.
Hi Stu, great lesson! I especially like the way you laid out the strum variations in 6/8 time. Could you do the same for 4/4 time? You have always added these flourishes to your songs and I have never quite figured out what you were doing. Thanks!
Absolutely! These suggestion go across all time signatures -- some rhythms are specific for 6/8 to 4/4 etc....but the principles of embellishments are the same. Happy playing 😊🎶
Once again, on catch up, but Stu this was so much fun and really started my day well. Blessings and rock on 50 !!! (This was 15 years ago but who’s counting…..)
Thank you! This awesome! I never dreamed I'd one day seriously consider learning how to play this song but I think I might swap out your harmonica for my kazoo lol baby steps here
So cool you playing harmonica now. I play harp and my sisters got me started on uke, they go so well together. How about Neil Youngs harvest moon for a lesson.
Thanks very much Carol Anne! Beautiful Cape Breton…where all the great contradance music comes from 😊 I’ve been to NS 2x to the ukulele ceilidh in Liverpool - would love to see more of the countryside. Happy playing, Stu

Thank you. Namaste 🙏
Playing a harp and a uke at the same time for me is like walking a tightrope in the dark, carrying a piano. Super good job! Very entertaining!

Forget about strumming -- just playing harp on a rack is really hard! You did fine!
I wish we could get together and play harps and ukes! Lol
Thanks Jeremy! I would love that too…sounds like you have some experience with harps I could benefit from 😊 It’s tricky to do both at the same time, but really fun to try ✌️
I'm feeling like getting/buying an harmonica and practice it now. 😀Thank you.
