Post video note : I can now confirm it is in fact an internal ‘’coup’’ to all intents & purposes with the Hong Kong partner referred to in my previous video (SnakeByte) effectively cutting out the current management and taking over the company. Very messy and it looks like Nicki Repenning has, unintentionally, lost control of the organisation. My personal recommendation would be to not commit to Honeycomb on any pre-orders at this time until the situation is clearer.
This is exactly what Nicky was warning us about and this is probably Snakebites reply to the whole situation....
The website is sooo well written, it is pretty clear to me personally, that this is exactly the way that snakebite operated that got nicky in this predicatment.... a lot of words, but we'll have to see about the actual wool.
At it's current state, i wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole... The products, if any, will be regurgitated into infinity, but i'm pretty sure nicky will be working on something truly innovative... as this "coup" has just lost a brilliant designer and shot itself in the foot... But that's just my opinion and thought about it at this moment.
Thanks for the update, Mark, appreciate your knowledge and sences.
The beauty of doing business with China.
@@Shadowdncer or Germany it seems
@@brin57 you mean that "German engineering team based out of Hong Kong"? I'd chalk that wording up to pure marketing; German companies are usually too bad to pull off a good scam without getting caught.
SnakeByte is an appropriate name it seems. Beware indeed !!
Unless I'm missig something, they don't say there is *fully* new owners. The person on facebook (Nikki) was the Founder but got set up by his business partner and essentially just became an employee and didn't have any ownership of the company. After Nikki posted on facebook about the state of the company, the business partner that set him up appears to have fired him. On the website, they seem to dodge the question of if the business partner has been fired leading me to think that he still has some control. Until Honeycomb explicitly states that he has no ownership, I'm not buying anything, and I urge people also not to buy from them just yet. I want to give money to the creator and not a shady business partner.
The funny thing is, check who has the patents... that's the guy i'm listening to...
"Their German development team....... in Hong Kong"
Sounds to me like they were bought out by a chinese company, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it turned out they were connected with the previous chinese partner. If I had to guess, the previous partner was deliberately trying to put the company in trouble in order for it to be taken over. I think Nikki had the company stolen out from under him by the chinese; the whole thing stinks.
Fantastic news! Looking forward to the Charlie pedals being available to order again.
So, I could be wrong here, but I inferred from the management update post was that Nikki's business partners were the ones that are the "new owners" and it just meant that the old ownership structure was dissolved. If it's truly a different company (with better support and resources), that sounds like it could be the best possible outcome, but given the ambiguity in statements, I still have my doubts.
Me too...why would they not announce who they were?
Looks that way. Still cannot order anything from the Honeycomb store so seems likely that some sort of financial issue. (Not that I was going to but thought I’d try. ) 0:02
Looks like this whole saga was a setup to get Nikki out from the beginning !! Ruthless hostile takeover by the original partner in HK is my bet !!
If you can cheat, then cheat. (1) manage the flow of money and goods into and out of Shenzhen, (2) "irregularities", (3) own company.
Alot can change in a couple of weeks. This is hopeful news, thanks for the update Mark.
Thanks Mark ! Positive news for those that already have HoneyComb Products and for the future ! I wish them well 👍🙏🏻❤️✈️👨✈️
You can be sure of one thing. If it does ever get off the ground there will be a significant price hike.
Wise words about giving the new owners a chance and letting them get their house in order.
Until there is some more revealing information as to who these “new owners” are, it may be a bit naive to assume it is not the existing business partner that may have taken advantage of Nikki. How do we know who this really is? I wouldnt give them $1 just yet.
Thanks,as always, Mark. Ask. I mentioned in your previous report on this, we have seen many flight sim companies vanish, Fltsim Store, Chris Bell etc. Maybe cautiously optimistic is the way forward here!! Keith
That's fantastic news!
Interesting news Mark. As you were telling the story, I figured Aerosoft, but I have no idea about the structure of their company or where their offices are so a complete guess. The hardware is great though, and although the brand might have taken a hit for its commercial practices, new ownership should quickly overcome that. For the average simmer they represent the best in price versus performance so I think we all want them to bounce back and continue to release products.
I have my rudder pedals sorted but was interested in their Tango Foxtrot flight stick and throttle they announced a year or so ago. Maybe they will see the light of day now.
I’m happy to see they managed to avoid going under. I’m rooting for them, HC makes some fine flight sim hardware. I hope I’m able to get the Charlie pedals so I can complete my HC setup, I’ve had the Alpha and Bravo for almost two years and they’re going strong like day 1..
Great news for all of us who have & are waiting for Honeycomb products . Might be also time to change the name as well to get away from all the bad press
It sounds hopeful, and as a Honeycomb A/B owner, I would like to 'believe' in the possibilities expressed in this video by Mark. That said, there are any number of 'concerns' as 'the mystical new owners' endeavor to repair the brand damage that has occurred. I remember when HC was first starting out, there were any number of long delays for those pre-orders being fulfilled. Then it got better, until it didn't. So it's scary, a lot like the implosion of Fulcrum, who had a very nice-looking yoke and flamed out-of-business and is no more. When you're buying sim hardware, nothing, but nothing, is guaranteed. Not unlike when you buy any other significant item, you won't know until after you pull the trigger if it is going to be a happy or sad experience.
It seemed to be a company without rudders for awhile. I'm glad I kept my Saitek rudder pedals
Well somebody paid the site hosting bill at least. 😉
Not going to go too much into this yet. I am a customer and love my Alpha/Bravo. I do hope the news of new ownership/management is true and the availibility of products and spare parts opens up soon.
Who are the new owners? Thrustmaster? Logitech?
Hi Mark, I saw the news earlier today. For us it is important that the products are to be continued (after the latest news I bought some extra to have something “on stock” for when my Alpha or Bravo dies). So it seems good news, but I am afraid the investor that Nikki was writing about (his businesspartner) took over everything. Weather or not this is done in an honest way we can not judge now (and probably will come out later). But the story Nikki told us was not one to be happy about, this then is not promising something positive (when indeed this businesspartner is now the owner). Having a business background i would not be surprised there is something nasty going on there, I saw enough in my own long businesslife to fear for such a thing and I would not be surprised by anything.
We shall see if this really pans out.
Who could the new owners be? I have my suspicions. Thrustmaster, Turtle Beach, Aerosoft...Virtual Fly or someone else...the Hong Kong partner?
It could be any of them. Honeycomb's gear is quite a bit more modern compared to many other options currently available and it fills the gap between the low and high-tier gear.
I really hope this story will get a happy ending.
Are we sure they're actually under new ownership? Or are we witnessing an argument between parties who each believe they're the actual ownership?
@@danmoretti8898 Valid point...we should know in the not too distant future.
@@SimHangerFS Well I really hope that they were bought up by an outside firm and the lead designer was able to stay onboard in an engineering/design leadership role. Thanks for covering this.
Looks like SnakeByte, who WAS Nicki's silent partner. Nicki has been ousted from Honeycomb, and you're going to be dealing with the Chinese going forward. Nicki has been removed from FB and apparently X/Twitter, also.
Thanks much for update Mark!!
after reading all the emails from honeycomb I think some people need to go to jail and rightfully so. It's nice to see a whole new team in there hopefully they will take it seriously. we will see
I'm about to buy the Velocity one but if they have a sale, I would just get their Honeycomb product.
My monies on Simhanger Peripherals Ltd.
My money is on CH Products. :) Regardless of that, it's good to see Honeycomb peripherals saved. What a pity someone hasn't stepped in to rescue Fulcrum, whose yoke is superior, IMO.
Disappointed about Fulcrum as well. Keep hoping Winwing will make a quadrant. I've been happy with their Orion2 HOTAS
Lol CH ftw! 😎
Truly tho, I’ve been running my USB CH Fighterstick, Pro pedals and throttle for combat/space sims for well over a decade now and still going strong.
Great news
Splendidddd hopefully the quality continues . Hopefully not saitek or logitech ROFL
Yeah, this is not good no matter how they want to try to present it. If this is the group that founded the company with Nikki then they're already highly suspect. Understand that my view of Nikki is that he belongs in R&D and NOT running a company as he seems to have virtually not business skills what-so-ever. However, this group seems to also lack many of the same skills to allow it to get to this point and now they lack the visionary that knew how to design a product that intrigued all of us. This "new" company should not be trusted by ANYONE until well after they dig themselves a out of a massive credibility hole. I also expect we'll hear from Nikki about this shortly.
Well l think they have lost me as a customer due to continued delay. I was going for their rudder pedals but now bought the Thrustmaster version which seem fine and well built though rather spongy. I have yoke and throttle units but again the yoke is just spring loaded like most are.
Logitech ?
What's their discord server link? Can't find it anywhere
discord.gg/Vgx8hswt
Thank so much! Keep up the great work
Aerosoft ?
Oh god please no
People need to understand that Nicky never had more than ideas. Without money you do nothing. Having poor business accumen, the company that backed him up is Snakbyte. Nothing to expect from them in terms of innovation; but they know how to produce plastic products. I guess they have all the ideas from the past years and can produce them if they want, or if the brand is still appealing to us. The new kid in town is Turtle beach. A serious company such as Thrustmaster and Logitech.
Aerosoft i recon
The king is dead long live the king
Pretty sure it’s Aerosoft.
Fanatec jumping into flight sim?
Fanatec can’t even fill orders for sim racing because they’re a fucking joke since they started as a company.
Fanatec can’t even fill orders for sim racing because they’re a fucking joke since they started as a company.
Textbook example of how to NOT restore faith in a brand. Generic statements lacking any sort of details (who, where, how, etc.). Quite a shitshow. Serwus!
It's early days, time will be the judge.
@@SimHangerFStime has already been the judge. Hope Nicki is ready for the California court system, with any luck they will go after him for fraud and embezzlement
Hopefully it won't be a hedge fund operation...........................................
This is never a good sign. Glad I ended up going Thrustmaster. Never thought Id ever hear myself say that, lol. This is where the gangsters sell every asset the company has while still collecting money from products they no longer make or support, lol.
I bought the Honeycomb yoke and Throttle quadrant for crazy inflated prices a few years ago before they were in the UK, I think £360 and £420 each or something. The pedals were too far out though so I got Thrustmasters TPR pedals, which are beautiful.
I smell private equity all over this. Bye, Honeycomb.
You might want to do a little more research. This is definitely going to court. Nobody purchased anything.
I am simply reporting on the announcement & inviting comments. See my pinned comment above.
I am not relieved at all, this sounds like some shady business.
I won’t be buying anything from them. The velocity rudders work well most of the time.
There is no CEO name, no signature under the announcements on Honeycomb page. Bit anonymous.
German development team in Hong-Kong?
To be on the safe side I just bought spare Alpha from Aerosoft (discounted price) so at least for H/W issue I no longer depend on Honeycomb (I modded my original alpha for movable trim neutral position, my freshly acquired spare remains unmodded).
That's because it's all Snakebyte Asia, registered in Germany and ran by Mark Steup, who has been the legal owner of Honeycomb this entire time when Nikki allowed him to set the company up 100% under Snakebyte as a brand without challenge.
Logitech?
