Everton Could Actually Die

  • There have been rumblings about Everton’s dire financial situation for some time, but the clock is getting closer to midnight and it’s not getting any easier for the blue side of Liverpool. The debt is running up, the loans are coming calling, and so is the Premier League asking financial questions. The team is also not very good and now no new additions seem to be possible.
I feel for Everton fans who may be set to experience a real, dramatic setback in their fandom. It’s the tumultuous underbelly of the modern game, we just did a video about Valencia experiencing a fairly similar situation, at least one with a similar potential result. A club collapsing, which should never happen with the money involved, and when so many people depend on the club as a part of their life.
    Much Love,

I’m an Everton fan, one thing you’ve missed out which contributed massively to our financial trouble is Usmanov being sanctioned. He is best buds with Moshiri & provided loads of sponsorship to the club (basically moneywashing). With that money gone it has absolutely doomed us.

@@ItzJowell That was always going to be the case when your business relies on big sponsorships, either through advertisement or ownership. Ofcourse there are a few big companies who have CEOs or owners who care a lot about football and thus invest in it, but their sponsorship are by far not as large as those companies who sportswash their (country's) image, use it to launder money or evade taxes. Everton’s situation really reminds me of Sunderland just on a larger scale. Terrible management in every area of the club, terrible signings and massive misuse of money. Owner wanting to sell and not invest any more money. Also, having players who have no want of being there and only there for a pay check and relegation being a certainty at some point. I wouldn’t be surprised if they done what we done and had a double relegation.

Don't forget that massive wealth gap in PL and championship football that effectively punishes other clubs for not being owned by insane megalomaniac oligarchs and the corporatising of football that has corroded historical clubs as well as forced people to watch drab crap in stadiums called 'The Hyundai Asda Stadium' in an industrial retail park five miles outside town - and so on . . . that is the real story here, Everton a victim of that and still the PL say nothing.
Norwich board spoke out about it a few years ago and there was some minor rallying around this point but it gets swamped by muppets in the media like Lineker and Shearer and pundits and so forth.
At some point, it will come crashing down and Man Utd, Chelsea will be poorer clubs again . . .what happens when the sponsors dry up - no one addresses this. It seems rosy when the Champions League is on and its all colour - but that can end. Maybe Everton is a symptom of that ? Anyone know ?

But yes, I really expected a more competitive club this year. I warned everyone that American owners couldn't care less about winning, but it's just not a mentality that Brits can comprehend. I think Pompey is a pretty comfortable Championship side, but they may see less of a profit margin with increased wages and may choose to keep the team as they are, a Mid-table League 1 side. I said it a 1000 times then and I'll say it again, American owners literally do not care at all about winning or losing. All that matters is the profit margin. A lot (if not most) clubs are spending big in order to achieve success. But the problem is because everybody is doing it, only so many can actually be successful. And if you don't spend big you get left behind. Those that do succeed are branded "smart" whereas the ones who don't are the ones who end up struggling. Only way to stop this is to tighten FFP rules even more and stop clubs clearly overspending their means.

Hi Toffees, this has irked me for months that Thelwell was not accountable for the January window. This man needs to go at season's end. We are in such turmoil that he could not be fired mid season even though in the most crucial window in our club's history he gave us nobody. Moshiri said "we need a striker and we will get one!" Well Moshiri, you didn't get one so your word is nothing to me anymore. During the January window, Thelwell took too long to fire Lampard, had nobody lined up and lost a week waiting for Bielsa to finish his holiday. Then we got Danjuma'd and then Dyche covered up for Thelwell with "we have better players already here" which was absolute horseshit. Thelwell left NY Red Bull in absolute dire straits as the 3rd worst team in the USA. "Director" is an insult to Scorsese, Mike Leigh & Hitchcock. As for being a 'behind the scenes' kind of guy he is the Director who runs the show and to be honest, there are no scenes to be behind. He just hid behind Dyche. We have 24 goals total this year and Big Kev sent Cannon out on loan who was our club's brightest new attacking hope. He got 32 minutes showing promise but unlike Rooney being giving a decent crack by Moyes, EFC bought Maupay who Brighton ditched to give the young starlet Ferguson more minutes to brilliant results. Thelwell spent 15 million on a declining player who was on the bench for Brighton who thought he deserved to start as Everton's striker. Maupay's last days at Brighton were mostly spent out wide not as a striker as he is not a natural goalscorer and Potter knew it. Ferguson is now scoring for Ireland whereas Cannon plays for Preston instead of Everton where he should be. Awful decision! Even the WWE commentators know Cannon is really good! Moshiri, Thelwell and the Board are all in a circle jerk of absolutely horrendous decision making. The FFP investigation again is on again! Dyche starting Maupay vs Fulham was an awful decision even though Dyche claimed after the Man Utd game that "Neal put in a great shift." No he didn't, what was Dyche watching that day. Dyche is only a little better than Lampard and his mono disposition is running out it's limited course. If we stay up and hopefully sell up, then a world class coach is required for 2023-24. Be accountable Thelwell for your failings. Be a man. We need our lads to be men for the next 7 games and I will always believe in our team but Maupay is the exception. Simms scored a blinder 3 weeks ago vs Chelsea and Maupay hasn't scored in 7 months but Dyche started Simms even though Cannon should be our striker. DCL is injured and Cannon was the one. Imbeciles! Watching this unfold has been worse than last year where Thelwell didn't learn a damn thing. Thank you Toffee TV. I love EFC but really dislike Moshiri & the ineptitude of Thelwell. Thelwell is a nice guy but nice guys finish 4th to last hopefully...

    • @elloos
      @elloos Před rokem +2

There's no 51 percent rule in the UK like in Germany and all the clubs have rich owners and they are a run as a LLC or PLC. e.g. Liverpool is owned by a LLC while Manchester United is registered on the stock market as a PLC. They have women's and youth teams but no other sports teams, As far as I know the only fan-owned teams are AFC Wimbledon, Newport County and Exeter City. So sadly only 3 out of 92 teams abide by the 51 percent rule in the UK and non of them play in the 2 highest divisions.

And thank you for clarifying that in the EPL, pretty much no team has a "main club", they are focused just on football and are therefore not diversified with different sports disciplines like in Germany e.g. Bayern München (e.g. their basketball division) or Bayer 04 Leverkusen (who are very big in athletics).

While the Mismanagement was a big issue; the real problem was that building a Top 4/Title Winning Club would require something like £2-4 Billion worth of spending, thus £800 Million simply doesn't cut it (which was reflected in the poor quality of players that Everton was able to sign) in an age where signing Harry Kane alone would cost a club £250 Million in Transfer Fees & Wages across 5 years.

I’m in 2029 of my build a nation save, having taken semi-pro outfit Llanelli Town to the top flight and into Europe. Last season we made the semi-finals of the Conference League and using that money we turned professional in the summer. I’ve just managed to qualify for the UCL group stages for the first time, which has brought in money we could barely dream of. The issue I have is building the reputation of the Welsh League and boosting the coefficient of Wales in Europe. I’ve managed to go from 45th to 32nd and due to UCL involvement am hoping to crack the top 25 this season. However, how do I get the other teams in my league to improve? I’ve tried loaning my reserves to them, but my players aren’t interested in joining them. I’ve got an affiliate in the second tier and am hoping to build them up but I’m going to struggle to improve the rest of the league if I can’t loan players to the other teams in the same way I’ve seen streamers do. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

Have to spend a fortune to hope to stay up, and face potential bankruptcy if they are incompetent like the people running Everton. It is ruthless. It’s quite the tightrope walk. There may well be circumstances that are particular to Everton , but the pattern is repeated everywhere. A chairman who grew up supporting the club, a loyal fan base having to come to terms with a global game and global fans - this is Supermarket football and not the high street. No room for coffee shops, you’ll die outside the Starbucks franchise. If you truly love this game , try somewhere like a Stockport County and enjoy it for its core values. I'm a Liverpool fan, and I would hate to see Everton go down, they should do some sponsored penalty prize nights.

Ironic this comes so soon after you were so sceptical about the need for better financial supervision in the league.
As a Liverpool supporter, I can see the funny side of this, but I genuinely hope they find a way out. Unlike Rangers, the option to drop three divisions is not possible for Everton. Admission to the Football League is strictly on the basis of sporting merit, meaning they would have to climb the whole non-league ladder to even get to where Wrexham currently sit. That's going to take over a decade, and it's hard to see how they could keep the club alive. Obviously the new stadium would be off the table, and even keeping the doors open at Goodison would be well beyond the means of a non-league club.
I doubt it will come to that, though. Most likely option seems to be a lengthy stint in the EFL. The stadium has always looked suspicious, with the source of funding never clear. (There was a whole mess a few years ago with Liverpool City Council offering to make a loan, although to be absolutely fair, that was more a reflection of the state of the council, and since-deposed-in-disgrace Mayor than Everton doing too much wrong.)

Despite Everton's perilous situation, I don't think they will be relegated. Leeds, Forest, and Leicester are too poor, and at least three of them will finish below Everton and go down with Southampton.
