Restoril

  • Restoril belongs to the benzodiazepine family and remains a relatively popular sleeping pill. Restoril also available as the generic temazepam, was initially approved by the FDA in 1969 yet remains among the top 200 prescription drugs in America.
    A typical starting dose of Restoril is 15 mg about 30-60 minutes before retiring for the evening. Some require the maximum dose of 30 mg. Unlike the more popular Ambien, Restoril has a longer half life of about 8-9 hours. Not only does Restoril assist with falling asleep, referred to as sleep latency, but it also helps maintain sleep throughout the night. Ambien lacks this later property.
    Traditionally regulatory agencies assume insomnia is a transient condition. In order to minimize the development of tolerance and the potential for side effects, therapy regularly limited to 7-10 days. As we learn more about the basic biology of insomnia, it appears a considerable subset of patients suffer from a genetic form of the disease. This almost guarantees the need for long term treatment lasting months to years.
    Restoril should not be prescribed to people with severe liver or kidney disorders, depression, alcohol or drug abuse or respiratory problems such as COPD, sleep apnea and hypoventilation often related to obesity. Mixing Restoril with a variety of antidepressants, antipsychotic drugs, opioids and certain antihistamines seems like a recipe for disaster.

    This medication is great. I've been using it for about 2 months but not every day. The first couple weeks I used it 4 days a week then went down to two times a week and now I just use it if I have a couple rough nights of not getting any sleep. Fortunately, my insomnia seems to be going away but its nice to have this medication on hand if it ever comes back or just comes to visit me for a night or two. I also use the medication if I have an important presentation or something important I have to do the next day to make sure I get a good night's rest. My insomnia caused me to wake up around 2:00 to 4:00 a.m. I never had a problem going to sleep it was just staying asleep but temazepam helped me with that. I still woke up to use the restroom but I was able to go right back to sleep and I would notice that my mind would not start racing and I would not get anxious thoughts while on the medication and that is what probably help me get back to sleep

    I have epilepsy and one of the biggest triggers is lack of sleep. They just started me on this. Which is great. I haven’t had near as many issues as I did on ambien. Unfortunately though they have had me on stuff since childhood after every other way failed. I have no issues staying asleep but getting there is not the easiest even at 3, I would be up for like 2 days before I would sleep. So by the time I was 8 they were like, not cool, and causing more seizures so you get to take this stuff along with your seizure medication. I
    Also, if y’all want a great book about sleep, there’s a great book called why we sleep by Mathew Walker. It’s REALLY good.

    I have been on and off restoril 30 for 10 years. It's amazing how quickly the tolerance builds. If I ever ran out of whatever benzo I was given for day use id substitute the restoril for anxiety and never fell asleep during the day. Just pure relaxation!

      Yes! 100mg thc capsule along with 10 mg. Melatonin saved my bacon when clonazapam stopped working. It only lasted a short while though. I increased to 200 mg to no avail. I hope you are still sleeping well with no built up tolerance :) I must admit that I am jealous! Clonazapam and Temazapam work but your method is way better.

      @matthewscott1091 Před 3 lety +5

      @@jamie1081 Hi, I’m not sure how you take it but as someone who takes Temazepam & it works well, here are some tips:
      1. Food: Regardless of what your doctor says, taking it on as empty a stomach as possible is your best bet. Eat a lighter dinner, or eat dinner early but your stomach should be empty (or as empty as possible).
      2. Water: The medications works *way* better when taken with a large amount of water. I’m not sure why but drinking a generous amount of water vs just a single glass makes a huge difference for me.
      3. Other meds: Some mood stabilizers or anti-depressants counteract the effects of Temazepam. I’ve found that if I take my mood stabilizer before my Temazepam it won’t work. So I have to space them out.
      4. Caffeine: This one sounds counterintuitive I know because you want to sleep. But ingesting a tiny amount of caffeine can help the meds to enter your system more quickly. Just be careful not to ingest too much caffeine. I usually take a couple Excedrin (otc pain reliever that has caffeine) or a couple sips of caffeinated soda. It’s not enough to keep you awake but it’s enough to help the medicine work quicker.
      This applies not just to Temazepam (Restoril) but also similar sleep meds. Good luck! 😴

Giant red apes and talking clam shells , obese women falling from the sky threatening to smash me. Weird, vivid dreams that seemed more like hallucinations .The kind of stuff a person may dream if they have a temperature of 103 and have double pneumonia. Not my idea of good restorative rest.
