Did anyone else get sad toward the end of the video? It was hard to hear how the mighty Balerion spent the last few decades of his life. It was even harder to hear how they mistreated him. (slapping his snout) I think he would have preferred to die in battle. I also think he received his wounds trying to protect Aerea. He flew her back to King's Landing despite being severely wounded. I hope we get to see the conquest on the screen someday. Balerion, Meraxes, and Vhagar at their prime is *chef's kiss*

@@klgizreal3105if you read the full description of her wounds, it’s pretty graphic and horrible, it sounds like they were attacked by valerian fire wyrms. Aerya definitely got the worse of it as apparently the wyrms can gestate inside people, xenomorph style, which is what caused her blood to boil.

If im not mistaken, no other house had dragons. Ever. No one had beasts even close to dragons.
It definitely would water down the legacy of Balerion if we got to see him onscreen. His story is one so seeped in legend and glory that trying to recreate him visually may not please everyone. It’s best he remain as he is; a legendary dragon up for interpretation of the many fans who adore GRRM’s story.

I‘d love a scene, where the main characters just fly on their dragons and suddenly, a waaaaay bigger dragon shoots out of the clouds, scaring the living crap out of them.
But I fear that they down-size the dragons immensely to save production time and costs, similar to what they did in GoT, by mostly showing Drogon alone, barely giving more than a few moments on screen to the other two. Or the injustice they did to Ghost, the importance that Wolf held for Jon, just because they were „busy“.

Something I never put together is Aegon was always actively involved in his kingdom while his sister-wives ruled in his stead. This might be why he was such an effective ruler.
It sounds to me that Viserys' willful strength wasn't the reason he was able to ride Balerion, but it was the fact that Balerion was old and significantly weakened.
Yes, but ultimately, the dragon chooses its rider. We don't know why Balerion chose a little girl who couldn't control him or a future king who didn't have any desire to fight, but he saw something in them he liked. Even weakened and old, Viserys couldn't have ridden Balerion had the dragon not wanted him to.
No, Balerion chose Viserys for a reason and even old, he was still Balerion, just like Vhagar is still dangerous even old. He got interested in something that Viserys had, but no doubt Balerion CHOSE him. Also, Balerion is the hardest Targaryen dragon to master, according to GRRM himself.
Well despite Viserys flaws he was never an indecisive man,once he made a decision he stuck with it,perhaps that has something to do with it.
If we don't get Balerion on screen someday, we riot....

It really is interesting how Westerosi resistance to being colonised is always subtly framed as a bad thing. (Even in the narration of this video.) We are left thinking of House Harren and the Dornish etc as being villains. Meanwhile, Balerion and his riders are glorified as kingly and majestic for massacre after massacre, and genocide after genocide, visited upon people who had lived without Targaryens for thousands of years.

A GOT prequel focusing on Aegon’s Conquest is being discussed, which means that there is a chance that we will see Balerion in all of his glory quite soon.
I'm surprised they didn't start with the conquest. Could have been many detailed seasons that we would have loved.
I feel like they have to give us a flashback or something, the showrunners know we crave to see Aegon's conquest and what balerion was all about
I wish they would work on their scale a little more. That skull seems like it came from a much smaller dragon than Vhagar. And from what I've heard, Balerion was supposed to be like twice the size of Vhagar.
I wanna know what could possible challenge Balerion to wound him so bad. Maybe he went back to his old home, and found giant basilisks or wyverns. The valyrians did mess with blood magic, fire magic, and experimented with taboo science like interbreeding slaves w creatures

I thought House of the Dragon was going to be more of a history for the Targaryens than just Dance of the Dragons? If so, there's still hope we could see Aegon's Conquest and onward.
the thing the injured Balerion was either a fire dragon of equal to or greater size if he went to Valeria as despite being the biggest dragon in Westeros the Targaryens were only a small and minor house in Valeria before the doom and it was stated there were dragons that were equal to even greater then Balerion in size back in those days and if some survived the doom they would have went back to being feral/wild with the Valerians now gone, the other possibility was that he ended up flying north beyond the wall an ran into a ice dragon which are stated to be bigger then any known fire dragon with the average adult ice dragon being 3x the size of a average adult fire dragon and there was a legend/story of some Valerians heading north of the wall to explore and discovering the shimmering lake where they were attacked by a ice dragon that quickly killed 3 of there fire dragons in quick succession before the rest of the Valerians/dragons escaped in terror/fear over how huge that ice dragon was and how easily it slaughtered 3 of there fire dragons and might also explain the weird skin issue/illness the princess had as it breath can instantly freeze most things it hits with fire dragons and other ice dragons (WW and ice spider are likely immune as well) being the only exceptions but even if it's not a direct hit the sheer coldness of there breath can cause frostbite in people not directly hit by it but still close enough to feel the effects of the cold similar to how a direct hit from a fire dragon instantly incinerates any one hit by it but can still severely burn people that are near the fire due to how hot dragons fire breath is, ice dragons breath may also explain why Balerion became weakened/sluggish for the rest of his life since ice magic is the opposite of fire magic so it could very well have caused permanent damage to Balerion both physically and magically.

Smaug itself was inspired by real world mythos of dragons. Tolkien simply was one of the earliest to put it to a form and fiction in a book.
The gathering of gold and riches, sleeping on coins, the fire breath, the attitude and more were all from European Myhos of Dragons.
Eastern dragon Mythos, which is said the start of it all, are completely different.

What most people don’t know but is actually cannon is that Aegon had a dragon sized dong that he used to mate with female dragons once he was fully erect. Indisputable fact.
Smaug would be the most famous in fantasy fiction but both he and Balerion are tiny compared to Ancalagon the Black.
Tolkien's version of Smaug is smaller than Balerion. Oversized Smaug of the Peter Jackson movies is several times larger than the books.
However, Ancalagon was big enough to crush whole mountaints.

I could see them doing a Flashback in HotD with Aegon standing in front of a Scarlet Eyed Shadow outlined Balerion, Since The North still has White-Walkers and when Jon Snow first gets to Castle-Black, Sam Reads the History of Crows and the White-walkers were last seen 300 years before their time, So White-walkers are rising in the north during Dance of The Dragon, which means there will be a Scene with the Three-eyed Raven, since His Mark is in the South, The trees are all throughout Westeros.

Well that depends if cannibal is still alive or not when the show series is still alive I say that he is and is nearly as big as balerion as he has a completely different diet and has been a wild dragon for so long now.
