My theory is that the misshaped baby was due to lingering negative side effects of the blood magic used to create the dragons. There's room left in the explanation of GRRM to theorize they used possibly the less valued of their kin folk as the blood binder to create dragons from wyverns and worm creatures. That seems like a good enough reason for a blood curse for the strength of dragons

GRRM didn't want to put dragons in his stories because of them not occurring in nature.
But The Night King, Children of the Forest, 3 Eyed Ravens and White Walkers are all naturalistic examples of things that occurre in the real world.
    That checks out.

Also, you're saying there's no steel in Valyrian Steel whatsoever? Maybe its molten steel with crushed Dragon Bone/bone powder placed in it... or blood, but I doubt they'd wanna kill off their Dragons just or excitement with Steel. Unless they waited till just as a Dragon died, which is possible.
Really it could just be Steel melted with Dragonfire, since Dragon fire had magical properties. But yeah, Blood Magic being involved I can totally see. "Only death can pay for life" after all.
Plus, how did the Valyrians take Dragons (or learn how to) if the Dragons were made by them? Unless you mean the Ashaai made the Dragons before the War for the Dawn?

@@thalmoragent9344 the story of the "lamb men" gaining there first dragon was ether a tale and/or a wyvern.
True dragons as they age develop iron in the marrow of the bone in higher densities. The result is that a dragon will eventually too heavy for old dragons to lift as old muscle struggles to take off.
Martin got the concept from bone iron blades. Basically the high carbon count of animals bones with iron or making basic medieval iron.
This also allowed him to bottleneck val blades being in abundance in the world and prevent new ones being forged. Plus it gave him the chance add a little history after they split neds blade.
Also though it isn't stated... but is hinted. Therefore isn't cannon, its likely most of the val bloodlines have some dragon blood in them from the same experiments that make game of thrones dragons. But that is upto the interpretation of the reader.

G.R.R. Martin forgot that there is a difference between Eastern and Western Dragons, As you seem to have as well. Eastern Dragons have a more serpentine body with with 4 legs, Western (European) Dragons have two forms, 1: 4 legs and 2 wings, and 2: hind legs and forelimbs are wings, Then there is the Wyverns which can be interchanged for the second version of dragon and up till the HP movies and G.R.R.M's of Dragons have almost always been called Wyverns after the Middle ages.
Then there are the Dragons of other places in the world. some look more like Serpents. Some even being called as such. The Feathered Serpent of South and Central America, the Horned Serpent or North America, and the Rainbow Serpent of Australia as well as those of the Mediterranean and Africa.
Don't forget there are two different forms of Eastern Dragons (I don't mean Chinese and Japanese), being the 4 clawed and 5 clawed forms.
But what G.R.R.M is basing his dragons off of is the Pre-Middle Age and Wyvern which both are mostly seen as one and the same and not actual dragons. And if you look at the actual depiction of the "Dragons" on the old Welsh and British flags they have Beaks and arrow ended (or stinger tipped) tails. These are both defining features of Wyverns and NOT dragons but are in fact Wyverns. This is where the confusion of two legged and two winged Dragons steam from and where popular culture gets dragons wrong. There are only two distinc forms of dragons the Eastern and Western, the others are Serpents and NOt dragons and Wyverns, also NOT dragons.

Drogon as a hatchling trying to breath fire and just smoke comes out is sooooo cute. To think in the last episode ever his fire melts the Iron Throne and in the penultimate episode of season 8 his fire is so powerful it’s explosive! When he breathed fire on stone buildings, city walls, defence towers and the Red Keep they’re all blown away as if they were hit by a missile from an F-15. If you remember when Daenerys’s army is outside the city walls just waiting facing the Red Army of Cerci all you hear is explosions and people screaming, then Drogon flys over breathing fire and the city walls and gates just explode like a bomb went off with blocks of stone crushing Cerci’s army. I can only imagine how big and powerful Drogon will be when he reaches 100yrs old. I hope they do a spin off series about Jon Snow after the events of Game Of Thrones and in that series I would absolutely love to see Jon Snow become Drogon’s new rider (be great if Drogon seeks out Jon to be his new rider because after Daenerys’s death he needs that human comfort he got from her and since Jon loved Daenerys as well as him being Targaryen Jon would be perfect for Drogon and I can see him seeking Jon out)

Afaics, Tolkein's 'Smaug', at least as portrayed in Jackson's Hobbit films, is virtually a double of Martin's conceptualisation of the Targaryen dragons...right down to both being sentient. Though I'm not suggesting either creation directly inspired the other.
Although the one real distinction is Smaug's ability to communicate in a classic British accent.. and that at least does seem to be modelled on an earlier non-human villain. Shere Khan; superbly voiced by George Sanders in Disney's animated classic take on Kipling's "Jungle Book"
Maybe Balerion and his pals can only speak in High Valyrian? Or being cursed with obviously phony Irish brogues left over along with some surplus 'Harfoot' extras from Amazon Prime's abysmal "The Rings Of Power" Season 1, they quite understandably prefer not to talk at all.😁

Yep, and after Sunfyre died, Aegon was considering a new egg or bonding with an older dragon.
Viserys was just never into dragons,he only claimed Balerion because it was expected for him to take a dragon. Once Balerion died it was like, "well that's that then."

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a dragon should be able to fly. It's wings are too small to get its fat body off the ground. The dragon, of course, flies anyway, because dragons don't care what humans think is impossible.

GRRM couldn't imagine how "unrealistic" dragons could exist in his magical fantasy world, where wildfire exists, and white walkers / night king exists, bringing people back from the dead exists, etc.
To put it simply, GRRM doesn't have much imagination beyond the minimum necessary to write passe' fantasy novels.
There have been many treatises and treatments written over the years, and I have no issues whatsoever coming up with dozens of races/species of draconids in the fantasy worlds and games I've created over the years. All it takes is a little imagination, and a little practical thinking.

    • @Alejojojo6
      @Alejojojo6 Před rokem +2

European Dragon legends DO NOT come from Africa... African dragons are completely different that European dragons (they are serpent like, do not fly and have no fire as the ones in Europe do. African Dragons are typically associated with gods, while European Dragons are just wild beasts) and they are younger historically than European dragon stories. So more likely, African stories may come from Eurasia rather than the opposite. The earliest mention of dragons is from Asia, then moving to Europe and from there to North Africa and the rest of Africa, so dont say NONESENSE and spread misinformation that touches nationalistic views of the world.
