I have a theory that more powerful Valaryian families in old Valaryia had an assortment of dragons. They breed/made some for speed, others for strength, and perhaps some for metal workings like Valaryian steel. I do think that in order to preserve their power, they kept most of their secrets from other families. Because the Targaryens were a minor house in Valaryia, they might not have known the more complex things that other families could do.

What i love about Meleys is that all her strenght is focused on her speed. Also Rhaenys was an incredible rider, the fact that she could take a 2vs1 is incredible.
Rhaenys is easily mt favorite Targaryen female at the moment.

Yes! Sunfyre had a wing completely half torn off his body.
Despite that he survived and healed eventually, the damage that he recieved in this fight was so intense that, again in my opinion, he was never the same for the rest of the Dance.
Even tho the wing was part of the damage that Vhagar did when she landed uppon the 2 dragons, Meleys already had his jaws on Sunfyre neck, what it could have been letal in the long therm.
(Many said that Meleys vs Sunfyre in a 1vs1 alone would have been a victory for the Red Queen)
The Battle with Meleys allowed Moondancer to do mortal wounds on Sunfyre, without the damage to his wing, Sunfyre would probably annihilate such a small dragon like her, leaving the battle unharmed and later participating in more conflicts, like in God's Eye against Caraxes. [In some way, changing history]
I insist! that's an amazing feat considering how capable and strong the 2 Dragons were.
Meleys had an amazing introduction on the show last night. That is one terrifying dragon.

The show runners wanted to show what an experienced dragon rider with a clear and powerful mind can do. The control she has over meleys can not be overstated. We'll see what happens when a inexperienced rider tries to control a dragon when they are too emotional.

There's no other way to portray the fight between Meyles, vhagar and sun fyer. Rhaneys knew this how she was going to go out. She didn't give a shit. She saw Agon on Sunfyer and charged at him intending on doing as much damage as she could before falling. She went out like the dragon riding girl boss she always was. The damage she was able to do to Sunfyre set in motion the downfall of king Agon II. His dragon never fully recovered from that fight and neither did the king. Sunfyre's injuries directly mirror Agon's. Both of them had gimpy arms and legs from battle that a didn't heal correctly.

Easily one of the best of the targeryan dragons born after the og 3. And also war worthy like caraxes. It took the largest and another dragon to fight her.
If I were to pick on which targaryen dragon to have I would probably pick meleys She is one of the fastest dragons especially with her size since she isn't a small dragon and she also looks cool from what we've seen in the show
I'd definitely pick meleys and stick with caraxes. The two will easily win the civil War together.

Is it possible that Meleys and Caraxes came from the same clutch? Because if Caraxes hadn't been born with his serpentine figure, he'd look pretty similar to Meleys.
If i remember yass or at least I think they came about around the same time . i assume dragons can come from the same clutch but bond with riders at different times
They both came from Vhagar, Meraxes died and the two dragons left was Vhagar and Balarion.

Melys is incredible to fight against 2 dragon all by herself when she doesn't have more battle experience compare to vaghar who is battle dragon and have a hundred war experienced.

He chilled on dragonstone most of his life. Or whenever he wanted. There was no way the dragon keepers were able to make him go in the pit if he didn't want to.
Poor Meleys. Her last battle is the perfect time to just flee.
She knew the family and the dynasty was never going to be the same after it was all said and done. Rhanys wasn't going to run from that fight, especially from Agon's punk ass. She was wanted to to go out like the girl boss she always was. She didn't exactly win the fight, but she did enough damage to agon and SunFyer to start his downfall to which he would never recover. The history looks more favorably on Rhanys than it ever did on Anyone else of that generation including everyone that sat the iron throne during the dance. Except for Deamon (arguably)

Daenerys dragons were killed with flying projectiles. Even Aegon I’s wife Queen Rhaenys was shot down in Dorne. Dragons aren’t invincible

And house of the dragon does give more lore to dragons than got. I'm more curious on how doom started, more on dragons, and dragons before the dragon pit

Tangent: Maybe volcanos help with the size and strength of a dragon, so those born in the 'colder stones' of the Dragonpit would not be as glorious and sized.
It's pretty much down to the fact that in the dragonpit, the dragons weren't allowed to roam freely and were often chained or kept in keeps that essentially stunted their growth

GRRM was a huge Tolkien fan,and the dragon Algocanog would have bèn the size of almost 2 football field, where Belerion is about the size of 1 football field and was more beast,as where the Dragons in Tolkien world were intelligent and could converse with humans,would lead me to think that some of the more powerful dragon lords of Valeria had Dragons much bigger than Belerion ,with more abilities. The targaryens were a very minor house of Valeria ,which would probably not have the highest class of dragon. As impressive as Belerion and Vahgar were ,they probably pale in comparison to what the other Valerian dragon lords had for mounts

*Otto:* Dubbed "Middlefinger" and a rival to Daemon. One of the most hated characters in the Dance and in ASOIAF lore. The one who helped started this whole mess by pimping his daughter to the king and ratting out Daemyra.
*Larys:* Probably the worst character in the series just in terms of morals and ethics. The Littlefinger of this series. We just witnessed him hiring prisoners to kill his father and brother without any remorse. So cold.

I've counted 18 dragons. Not 17 that was promised. There's a chance they won't show Sheepstealer since Nettles isn't really part of the Blacks but she is allied towards Daemon. Or they may not show one of the kid's dragons or Vermithor or Silverwing by excluding Hugh 🔨 or Ulf. So far, we didn't see Daeron. If he's excluded, then there would be no Tessarion.
The Blacks have less c-nts and more dragons. Go, Greens! 💚 🤣 Be different. Be the contrarian because you want to be the smartest person in the room like you're Kyrie and want to stand out more by rooting for obscure characters nobody cares about or has no real importance to the story. TV writers are making Daemon look worse than he actually is. Cut out the scenes of him hugging his daughters after Laena dies. Made him look like a bad dad when it's the total opposite in the book. Is one of the TV writers Mushroom?
According to Mushroom, Daemon is suspected killing half of Westeros. Mushroom ratted on Daemon about sleeping with Rhaenyra. And Daemon was a suspect to Mushroom when it came to Rhea, Harwin, and Laenor's deaths.
In the book, it's never mentioned who killed Rhea. For TV, they made sure it was Daemon. But we now know Larys is the one who killed Harwin and Lyonel. Why would Daemon kill Harwin? They're homeboys who fought together with the City Watch and Gold Cloaks. And Daemon fought next to Laenor and happens to be his nephew and brother-in-law.
I swear if someone slips on a banana peel, Mushroom will find a way to blame it on Daemon.

You may want to clarify: Daemon’s 2nd wife……anyway, Vhagar was as big as Balareon by the time she became Laena’s mount(and Aemond’s of course). Drogon was called ‘the Dread come again’ probably as a reference to his similar appearance and tenacity to The Dread, as well as the fact that he is the dominant of the 3 dragons again laying claim to Westeros(and possibly because he was the potential monarch’s mount). Pretty much everything about Drogon is analogous to Balareon except he was not quite as big.

Yes and no. G. G. R. Martin had a say on the dragons design, and he opted for this appearance given that in nature you don't exactly get winged creatures with 4 limbs. He thought this way the dragons would have a more "organic look" to them.

@Auhuhhuu Read somewhere these dragons are like a hybrid version of firewyrm(long lizard type creatures who breath fire but have no wings) and wyverns which obviously have wings but can't breath fire, makes sense if you think about morphing both and the dragons we see in this world are the end result.

Leanor and Leana saying Dracarys was beyond embarrassing, I would've preferred them saying nothing and the dragons just breathing fire, its not like Drogon, Rhaegal or Viserion needed to be told.
