    My wife got me the 3x3 one for Christmas so I figured I should learn how to solve a cube. It was extremely fun and I'm pretty addicted to this thing. My biggest complaint is that I have a hard time distinguishing the colors since they are transparent.
    The blue and the green (teal) are pretty close and when I'm looking a blue-orange piece it can look like a teal-orange piece and causes me to double check. And learning on this cube has been a little annoying since pink isn't a standard color, so I just call it red, but then it gets confusing in my head.
    So I ordered another cube with more standard colors and I'll see how that goes!
    This jelly cube looks cool, and it works pretty well, I can't flick the middle too easily but maybe I just need to practice more.

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 Před 3 lety

      Did you know, in many languages, there's no such colour as pink? Like in Russian. They call it "light red". Like how in English we have blue and light blue. In Russian light blue is a totally different colour to blue, just like in English pink is a different colour to red
      And there's been many studies which prove that your native language actually determines how well you can distinguish shades of colours. Like Russians can't distinguish between shades of red as well as native English speakers can, simply because of the language
      There was a BBC Horizon episode where they studied a tribe of people who lived without modern technology and civilisation, and did this test on all of them with a computer, then did the same test with westerners. The tribespeople where shown a circle of different squares, and all but one of them was one colour, and the 1 left was a different colour, and they had to pick out which was the odd one out. Well, when shown a circle of blue squares, and one red square, they couldn't point out the red one. They couldn't distinguish it as a different colour, even though all westerners easily could. But then the same test was done, but all with shades of green, all the squares except one were the same shade of green, and then the odd one out was a very slightly different shade of green. Well, all the tribespeople easily picked the odd one out, no problem, but all the westerners failed at it. To the tribespeople, the odd one out was as obvious to them as picking the red square surrounded by blue squares was to westerners
      And it's all because of language. These people in the tribe had dozens of words for different shades of green, they were all distinctly different colours to them, so their perception was greatly impacted by the language. But they didn't have a word for blue, so they couldn't talk the difference between red and blue, isn't that crazy? Language literally determines what you can and cannot see, it messes with your brain
      Like the ancient Greeks didn't have a word for blue, so they described the sky as being the colour of bronze. They literally saw the sky as bronze, because they had no word for blue, so they just could not see the colour blue
      Oh yeah and these tribespeople had no words for normal directions, like "go 100ft and then turn left". So they couldn't ever understand directions like that. What they did have was compass based navigation. They knew, at all times, whether they were facing North South East or west and all the directions they gave to each other were based on that, like "go north". They had this crazy accurate ability to always know which direction they were facing without having a compass to tell them, a skill that no westerner has. But at the same time they couldn't understand directions like "left" and "right". It just confused them
      Language really determines the physical structure of your brain and how you perceive the world and everything around you
      Even the human "ego" (in the psychological sense, not like being vain) is a very new thing. 6000 years ago, humans had no concept of the self. They didn't think to themselves (I have to go to the market to buy fruit). They didn't perceive themselves that way. They quite literally all heard voices in their head, a disembodied voice that told them what to do. They had no conscious awareness of being an individual. Yet even lacking that, they built enormous successful civilisations, e.g. In Egypt
      But eventually humans did develop the concept of everyone being individuals and now it's how we all think, by default. But yeah it explains why gods were invented. Because everyone literally heard voices commanding then (when really it was their own brain telling them what to do). Anyway look up videos on "the bicameral mind" to learn more
      Anyway, I guess my point is, the pink on the speedcube is only pink because you perceive it that way, instead of seeing it as light red

Same for the pyraminx and skewb, my least favorite events lol. I wish they would have done a megaminx jelly version that would be interesting. They probly couldn’t get all 12 colors in transparent looking the way they wanted tho is my guess.
