After being embarrassed with videos that went global. Election year surface shine.
Correction: Philly crews displace Kensington trash to other parts of Philly.
They've been coming to NE. Mayfair, Oxford Circle, and Lawncrest have been going downhill real fast.
Kensington trash🤔… those are absolutely human beings dealing with mental health and addiction issues. God forbid it happens to you or a family member…or even your children. Wake up then grow up.
And also headed to the surrounding counties.
Why waste all that money if this isn’t going to be policed on the regular? I saw some of those homeless drug addicts in southwest philly.
I live in Old City. We'll see how many show up there.
We do this in Vancouver Canada and tents just go back up a few days later. It's all just a publicity stunt.
Thank you! People act like this hasn’t happened before many times in Kensington. And btw I’m in recovery and sober for 3 years. It’s all an image for this bitch mayor that acts like she’s doing so much. This is only 2 blocks of HUNDREDS! She’s a joke looking for good press.
Bingo!
Same in Toronto too
That’s the democrat way. Problem/reaction/solution. They create the problem and then take more of your earned money through taxes to fix the problem. The problem never gets fixed but the local politicians live in mcmansions
So what would you suggest the city should do to solve this problem?
City been doing it for years they will move to the next block where they won’t be bothered
But the billion a year drug dealing is free to go on.
Go back to sleep.

Well those people will move somewhere else. Simple as that.
They'll just go live in Wilmington.
Now they can buy a house 🏠
It's that time to play Philly's favorite game of Let's Pretend.
-Let's Pretend that shuffling addicts around the city solves anything!
-Let's Pretend that this isn't all just theater for Mayor Parker's approval rating!
-Let's Pretend that going after the drug dealers and distributors, instead of the drug addicts, is not what the police should really be focusing on.
-Let's Pretend that the addicts will magically disappear instead of just going back to Kenzo the second the police leave the area.
Well they did connect 36 people with services? I wish we could do this to skid row but maybe we need an investment in housing/healing treatment in the areas?
Praying that some get help
This does nothing all she did was push these people off the ave and into the neighborhoods
With all the vacant buildings they have down there they should make them rehabs and halfway houses. They need a place to go first.
That's why this is done, to make the area cheap. Then however comes in and buys it all

Kensington will be the future I said it first this reminds me of several previous gentrified neighborhoods they are filled with drugs homeless but then high rise luxury buildings with a close proximity to city limits.
Yes, Kensington would dramatically transform in the years to come but at the expense of the NE.
List one place where this happened and there is no more crime in that area. Just name 1 then I'll tell you the crime rate in your "safe", "gentrified" areas..
@@Marvin-rh9ru I can't tell you about Philly but NY there are many cases. I mean crime will always be but the numbers will change and shift with gentrification. Lower East Side NY is a perfect example. While there will always be crime and drugs, the numbers are much different before and after gentrification. @@INDREAMSBEGINSRESPONSIBILITIES these are the people that keep this corrupt government moving. We call them sheep. Unable to recognize patterns and see what’s really going on
The young people ( under 40 or so ) watching this Kensington "cleanup" probably never watched the Sylvester Stallone "Rocky" movies, but they're a good visual reference. I'll explain...
Rocky was filmed in 1975. The last true film of the story, Rocky Balboa, thirty years later. Both ( as were the films in between) featured Stallone's former home: the Kensington District.
In the 1975 film, you see Philly for what it was: "Filth-adelphia." The 70s was a bad time for Philly. Out of control crime ( from lower level street crime to organized crime). Graffiti ( tagging ) covered EVERYTHING ( even trash cans and newspaper boxes). Worst were the endless trash collector union strikes that left corners, sidewalks, alleys, etc covered with piles of garbage that could hit 5 or 6 feet high mounds, and weren't much better when the City Sanitation WAS working.
The filth you see in Rocky was real. Kensington was the worst.
Rocky 2 was filmed, i don't remember, 1981??? Kensington looked worse. Changes in city leadership had no effect, despite trying.
By Rocky 5 Kensington looked worse than downtown Baghdad in 1991. Seriously, Kensington looked like a demilitarized zone, and you didn't DARE go down Kensington Ave after dark unless you had a death wish!
Notice in Rocky Balboa, 2005, Kensington is even more destroyed than in the 90s. You'll see the very same shops, and row houses " Rocky" lived at, had become burned out shells and crumbling rubble. It's hard to believe rats could live there, let alone people.
My point?
In the 49 years since the filming of the original Rocky, Philly Mayors and Councilors have tried to "cleanup" Kensington, and improve its quality of life.
IT CANT BE DONE!
All of this is just the usual election year publicly stunt.
A better use of the taxpayers money?
GIVE UP, put a wall around the whole district, offer the home and business owners aid in relocation. Then for "humanitarian sake," convert a building to a rehab. Then let NO ONE in or out from dusk till dawn, and let follow its course until there's nothing left, bulldoze it, and start over.
So after the 72 hours has passed they will gradually just head back to the area again. So the problem isn't actually going to be resolved. This is a temporary fix not a long term one.
What took so long and the only way to prevent this from happening again is cutting off the drug supply with extreme harsh penalties.
It’ll all be back next week
They are cleaning it just for it to get dirty again in a few minutes 😂
I know this area. And the reason they finally doing this it’s business. A lot of investors around Kensigton. I saw a lot of old business closed and bringing new ones. They also are demolished the old houses. City care more about their taxes coming from this new business. Kensigton soon be history. I saw expensive apartments around. And they are keep going.

L.A/Cali is way worse than Philly when it comes to drugs and homelessness! Kensington been like that for decades, so why the sudden change?
No they had it clean up it want crazy in c 19 hit
I Know Right La Its Been Like That 4 Ever !
Why the sudden change because of the new mayor that’s it !
Its clearly a political stunt to claim
“ look at the progress I made in the first week of being mayor, I get results! Therefore deserve your votes“
-----
Notice that there is no guarantee or promise of real solutions….
Because there’s no gained votes in the fix.
“Immediate temporary results while the camera’s are documenting my progress of promised efficiency. While ignoring my civil duty to humanity. “ - the new mayor
A perfect politician.
Not a badge of honor don't care where it is our government is a joke
LA California figured out many ways to make profits off their homelessness industrial complex.
----
Kensington Philly, never figured out the profitability. Therefore, they think the state will make up the loss of the working class by sending the homeless to private run prison systems.
-----
Its an interesting business model. If you largely don’t care about a real solution.
By the time people realize nothing has really changed,
You will have maximized your name with efficiency as a “mayor that gets results !”

If you build it they will come. This is a prime location to invest in real estate with appreciation expected in the 40% range over 5 years. A $40.000 property renovated will be valued at $323.000 in 5 years. Transit oriented development is a primary requirement for milennials.
It's creeping up Somerset at a crazy clip. Over 500 units in development.
Can't let people like black rock buy it all up it creates a monopoly for big corporations

It's about time!
Until the dealers start killing for new blocks this mayor is starting some shit .
Waste of time and money. I give it four months before Kensington is back to "Filthadelphia."
I live in a very rural part of the country and hardly ever been in cities. I remember the first time I saw a homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk. My first reaction was of worry and scared that the person was deceased. We need radical solutions to this.
Two whole blocks! It took Philly over 3 years to clear two WHOLE blocks. Yeah, Philly City Hall really cares about its residents. The residents that don't live on the streets, don't sling drugs, don't O.D. on drugs! The residents that go to work every day, go to school every day, and try to survive in today's economy! Keep electing those fools, maybe they'll clear two more WHOLE blocks next year! 😂😂
They dnt call it the BadLands for Nuthin. Why would anyone pay taxes here, or live here with there kids. How can anyone claim to be a law abiding citizen choosing to live in such a neighborhood. There's bigger and better places to take a family than living in the slums!!

Instead of these non profits and community orgs criticizing the efforts why not support the at least little good that is happening? Did they forget that these people and camps are negatively affecting the law abiding citizens that pay taxes in the area? Don’t just point out the negative without acknowledging the positive
The law-abiding citizens that pay taxes in area are going to be in the same boat as the addicts. They're going to be priced out and pushed out to NE with the addicts. This is not about making it better for the residents and business owners, it's about making it better for developers and yuppies.
