Hi Masonic Improvement. I was hoping to get your help. I have visited the Lodge I wish to join however the meeting had already started. I was however able to get in contact with one of the members. All he told me was to drop an email at their Lodge's website. I did so. Its been almost 2months but no reply. How do you suggest I go about with this? Is it typical to have to wait this long just to get an invite to pass my petition? I haven't even been investigated yet. Thanks for your help.
In some parts of the world, it's not unusual for lodges to go "dark" during the summer. Which just means that they don't meet for a few months.
I'd suggest that you visit again but show up earlier this time before the lodge has started. Introduce yourself and get to know everyone.
If nobody is there then it's possible they are dark for the summer so you'll have to check in again in a month or two.

I have a great-grandfather and his brother were both 33 degree Masons and I was wondering how I would go about becoming a Mason myself. And would having a bloodline help to become a Mason

@drksyde72 They are two separate problems. By "petition fees" I assume you mean the fees to join the Lodge in the first place. If he cannot afford to join us, then we will not Initiate him, it's as simple as that. If he can't afford the fees, then he is obviously struggling for cash.... to add to his financial pressures...and thereby putting pressure on his family..is not something we would wish to do. So to say "all financial classes" we mean from the ordinary man to the super rich.. we do NOT mean men who are struggling with their finances. Freemasonry is all about giving, so to take a man who cannot do that, would be ridiculous.
If a Brother falls on hard times WHILE he is a member, there are a number of options.
1. The Brethren may pay his fees for him until such time as he can afford them again.
2. The Brother may not wish to have his fees paid (personal pride) so may resign until such time as he more financially stable.
3. He may have built up a credit on his membership account and may rely on this until such time as he is financially stable or that credit runs out.
One thing is certain.. his fees MUST be paid...so if all of the above does not work, he must resign.

Lets get to the point, Black folks were not allowed into an AF&AM Lodge in Missouri until very recently. I left the lodge because it was a slow painful meeting about bill paying, then a meal . I was given a "cheat book" upon acceptance to take the 1st degree, and taught myself. I did my "turn in" and did the next 2 degrees the exact same way. There were a bunch of 80 year olds that were burned out and couldnt be bothered to help. There is a lot of work to sit in a Lodge to pay bills that could be on an autopayment method. I might go back to the Lodge but I cant say I got anything out of it.
@henry cross Good afternoon, Henry. It sounds to me, like you are keen to advance and learn...but you are possibly not necessarily in the right Lodge. Normally, to get the most out of a Lodge, you must be active within it... but if that's the case and you are still not getting a lot out of it, it's probably not the right lodge for you. If I'm right, might I suggest that you do a lot of visiting (when all this madness over the pandemic is over) of other Lodges. Just have a look at local Lodges and contact their Secretary to ask if you may visit. You will see different sorts of Lodges, doing different things. You will then, probably, find a Lodge that suits you better.

Great information! One thing I would add is that if one is considering a Prince Hall Lodge, make sure it is one listed as 'Prince Hall Affiliated' in the name as others like 'Prince Hall Origin' are either irregular, of clandestine nature, or bogus.

Some countries may allow you to receive the degrees depending on how long you'll be there. It's hard to say definitively because each country has its own Masonic jurisdiction (sometimes several) with its own rules. Your best bet is to ask someone at the Grand Lodge in the country you're at.
If you're in your home country for any period throughout the year it may be possible to receive your degree and turn in your work the next time you're back, but that'd be difficult in my opinion.

It depends on where you live. Your best bet will be to reach out to your local lodge and find out what their Grand Lodge says about it.

It means go inside the temple and meet other masons. Find out when the stated meetings are (usually once a month) and try going before or after and introducing yourself. It's a little intimidating but that's the way to do it.

@vikky axom If you cannot find a Lodge near you, there is little point in joining. Try googling lodges near your town. If you do manage to find one, then they probably have a website. The websites usually have a button you can click to see about membership. Good luck.

@HellaCheats Not knowing much about witchcraft, I cannot answer fully. Here are the requirements for membership.
1. Have a belief in a Supreme Being who created the universe.
2. Be male.
3. Be free of criminal convictions.
4. Be able to afford the fees without undue financial strain on the household.
5. Have the support of the family.
I suspect your question may be to do with number 1. When a man takes his obligation on joining, there are certain things he agrees, to ensure that to be a member, you have to be a good man.
If my answer is not enough, as mentioned earlier, speak to a MAson directly and ask him face to face.

@@anyabking1368 Good morning Anya. I suspect that you are female. If that is the case, you may not join a Regular Masonic Lodge, by virtue of your sex. One of the requirements of being a Regular Mason (ie a member of a Lodge that adheres to the principles and tenets of the United Grand Lodge of England, no matter where it is in the world) is that you are a man! However, Lodges of ladies DO exist... they dress the same, hold very similar ceremonies and have the same aims and the same requirements for entry EXCEPT that of being male!
The requirements for applying to join are as follows.
1. Must believe in some sort of Supreme Being that created the universe. We don't care what religion you have or even if you have a religion.. as long as the highest authority in your life is the one responsible for creating the universe.
2. Be free of criminal convictions.
3. Be able to afford the fees without causing undue financial stress on the family finances.
4. Have the support of the family. We don't want to cause any family problems.
Next, you'd normally approach someone you know is a Mason and ask them to propose you in to their Lodge. If you do not know anyone you are able to ask, you may petition your local Lodge. so the way to do that is to use good ol' Google! For example, if you live in NY you'd google the Grand Lodge New York and you'd see this.

There are considerably less ladies Lodges than male ones, so you'd need to refine your search to ladies lodges where you live.
I am an English Mason and so don't know much about Eastern Star...we don't have it in England.. so all I can do is to give you this website for details. It is Wisconsin, so if you don't live there, you should, as above, refine your search to include location.

I'm not sure whom in my family other than my uncle Mike was a Mason out of Connecticut. But yeah. I'm looking into this and I am actually somewhat afraid because I don't know what to expect. Especially when shriners live down the street from me. So as I do more research...I'll see what the universe wants me to do.

@Fred Hammond Yes. In England, it costs approximately ÂŁ400 initially and then at least ÂŁ200 per year plus disbursements, probably totalling at least another ÂŁ150-ÂŁ200 per year.

@@fredhammond8292 I'm not sure what you mean by "ransomed". All I would say is, if anyone asks for any cash in advance, refuse. It's a scam. They are probably NOT Masons. What you should do, is meet people in person for an interview in the Masonic meeting centre..or Masonic Hall so you know they are legit. 99% of the time, you will pay your fees when you are there to do your First Degree.

It stems from a European honorific. In many parts of Europe men of high stations are called Worshipful or your worship. For example we call judges in the US 'your honor' while in Europe they might be Worshipful.

We don't do anything like that in the lodge, if so then I would have quit a long time ago and never looked back. I suspect we'd have a hard time keeping members.
The Worshipful Master is expected to know how to run a lodge but there is no secret information or anything like that. In many lodges, especially rural ones, the majority of the members present have been Worshipful Master of a lodge at least once.

Some lodges are thriving, some are close to shutting their doors, others may be stagnant. Every lodge is unique and some are much healthier than others.

Simply look up the Grand Lodge for Germany. Based off your username I feel I should tell you that we may not be what what you're expecting though.

1. Have a belief in some sort of Supreme Being.
2. Be male.
3. Be free of criminal convictions.
4. Be able to afford the fees without undue stress on the family finances.
5. Have the support of the family.
Apart from that, there's an informal interview or two...that's all there is to it.
"Surviving" in Freemasonry isn't even a thing. It's not like it's constantly challenging your existence!
