Dad said when escorting bombers the P-38s flew in groups of 4 with one leader. They could not see down so 2 pair flew is a scissors motion (as I understand side to side - one under the other and back to see down). On one mission his turbocharger blew (disabling one engine). He was hit with the shrapnel and a German plane came after him. He knew he couldn’t outrun the other, but he had a better, longer range cannon, so he turned and faced the oncoming plane and scared it off. The P-38 could fly with one engine, so he made it home. He always said the P-38 was the best airplane ever made. He later was called back into service for the Korean war and continued as a pilot in the Air Force. He retired as master pilot flying jets.
I want to impart a story of a Hitchhike from Barnstable to Bude in Cornwall, That man was one of 617 SQD Dambusters it has bugged me all this time to know his name Scampton up road .. Leicestershire. I would still love to know ??. Thanx for all the Beautiful Planes it was an Era of immence & dia consequences. Love All JBX
My most sincere apologies to put it this way but- knowing the awesome collection on warplanes that PoF has, is it really necessary to show so many f***ing Mustangs???... We all know the omnipresent and boringly well-known P-51 so well indeed, it is everywhere (even in my soup), so why not concentrating on rarer birds? I find it ridiculous to show a dozen Mustangs (just one or two would be enough) and, as a contrast, just show a few seconds on other, less common warbirds- too little images on the P-40, FW-190 or Spitfire, for instance. Besides, as I heard, PoF has recently restored a Yokosuka D4Y Suisei, right? If so, couldn´t we say that such a rare and unique bird is worth 100 times all the Mustangs, Corsairs and Lightings in this video?... Sorry for the rant, though.
So you're not into sleek and gorgeous aircraft? Well guess what? I'm with you. Give me a pug-nosed F8F Bearcat or a sweet-sounding P-38 and a cold beer...
OMG P-38's P-51's P-47's P-40's (the Kitty hawk) and a Butcher bird FW 190..... I was born to late to fly .. Big heart for the lost xx

Just to see them, and see them fly! What a Wonderment!
I would much rather the sound of a Rolls-Royce Merlin, or a Pratt and Whitney R2800, than a jet any day.
