- 6.4L 392 V8 Hemi produces 485hp & Similar in torque. If you're looking to modify the 392, the best 2 options are forced air (supercharger) or Camshaft upgrade. Both Supercharger & Cam along with long tube headers will net you a healthy amount of performance gained. Let's go over why the advantage the camshaft upgrade has for the 392 over the forced air. Thanks for the love homie, we'll be out to NY soon.. and well bring the awd cop car.. and maybe a 2020 scat im doing a 429ci stroker in! Give you some hands on with them of course... or the cop car and my old 6.1.. either way.. we are coming!
Looking forward to hanging out & seeing which ever build you bring. All of them are making some serious power. Keep up the great work - you're crushing it with these Hemi's

Sounds amazing u guys help me lift my channel I’m building this Camaro check it out
i know it is kinda randomly asking but do anybody know a good place to stream newly released series online ?
How much to do a cam swap in a 5.7 R/t?
If its your daily, Cam for aesthetic and gains.
If its a build, 100% forced air and aim for high numbers.
Yah forced air has the higher ceiling - most with real builds end up doing both.
Nothing beats the whine of a supercharger, except for maybe a bad ass cam👍
Nothing like having both!
@@RTLife it's possible to have both??
Is it possible to have both tho? I have a 2020 scar pack shaker and I’d like to start off with a cam and some headers and chill at about 500whp for a while, but can I forced air to the same set up later?
@@luisrincon3355 to supercharge the “right” way you should forge the internals, or your stuck at about 6-7 boost safely. Most folks just trade up to a Hellcat at that point. But a bolt on/cammed 392 is nothing to sneeze at!
I love the thump thump thump sound at idle of a good bump stick
yah it does sound really good
It's a menacing sound to others at a stop light
I dont think people realize how much hp 500 and how much 500 tq really is.
it's enough to be in the 10's - which is fast as hell
Sak 20012019. Facts!!
Thats why im happy with my srt the way it is. Fast enough to make me smile every time i nail the gas
Hal 1000 i was talking wheel but ya same concept 😂
Not being mean but 500 and 500 is a 10 sec car on a light car not a 44-4600 pound one . Hellcats make 640-650 whp and 615 wtq stock and can barely get in to the high 10’s in perfect conditions
Always wondered about longevity of the engine once you throw a cam and all these other horsepower mods at the 392. It’s just something no one ever comments on
Facts
fr fr i need to know so bad
I have a 2012 392 super bee, MMX NSR stage 3 cam, tune, custom exhaust, 100 shot, and I'm at 187,500 miles. I installed the cam at 110k. No signs of abnormal wear, compression checks out, and I've sprayed about 40 bottles with no issue. It's all about regular maintenance, good quality components/fluids and a solid tune.
@@matthewjacques392 I would love to see and hear your build man sounds amazing! And thank u for a good thorough explanation I’ve need that
@matthewjacques392 thank you for letting me know I can get to that mileage. I just rolled over to 90k 2 days ago and was wondering if I should sell it. 😂
To Cam or Supercharge! This makes a solid case for camming a 392 in my opinion. Let me know....
Cam.
Always more impressive when you get your boosted ass handed to you by a na car.
Just watch Sneeky Snakes
So how much would it cost for the cam and long tube headers?
James L done properly, 4-5 k
@@Welcometofacsistube thanks
I've been vouching for camming 392's over supercharging. If you want to reliably supercharge, you need to forge it, which is a fair bit of cash for both. Meanwhile, a cam with some other basic mods can do you just as well, and it won't be as hard on your engine as forced induction.
Since I met Mack he’s the only person I do business with I’m thinking bout getting his cam package but I did have his ported heads and intake love that man he does great business stand up guy and he’ll walk you the whole way 💯🤝👍🏾 one of his cammed scats is beating hellcats well a couple of them are
he's a really cool guy - def doing some big things with these Hemi's
Interesting info n/a builds are cool too. That charger was screaming
yah that thing sounds insane - making some really nice power
I think that you helped so many of us make decisions with this info, good looking out bro!
Glad this was helpful in some way - thank you for the support
Yeah man - I'm so on the fence Magnuson SC vs Cam and long tubes as you described. SC is about 10k installed with tune. Going to have them price me out a CAM set-up.
You went up 10k the last time I watched! Dude you're killing it!
Thanks man - I really appreciate it
A 392 with long tube headers, good cam and great tune should be a handful to drive. 😎💯
agreed - def makes a healthy amount of HP
Throw some 305 45 17s on it and it actually isn't a handful at all, you'll actually be sad because you'll see Hellcats just roast them all day and you can't turn them over stomping the gas at 30. 😥
@3:29 you know when a mechanic is good when he's smoking a cigarette while working on your car 🚬 🤣
hahaha
I said if I wanted more I just move up . But 550 to rear wheel doesn’t sound too greedy and the fact it is assumed too be relatively safe to engine . YOU MIGHT GOT ME THERE !
I think 550whp is a lot to play with!
Love when you pull from the archives.
Like you always say, « either is a solid option ».
If you start your NA build, you go up from there. One more horsepower! 😂
Thank you! both ways can make some nice power - just need the right pieces
Great video man. I was raised with brothers and an uncle that believed in big cams and solid cranks. Still not used to the whine of a turbo or blower, to each his of course. Just big cams that made the car rock back and forth just idling. I love it and thanks again for this vid.
Yah everyone loves hearing that chop chop!
Great video man showing people what these hemis can do! A lot of people think they can't hit over 500 wheel NA but with the right setup they definitely can and theres a lot of videos out proving it. Take care.👍👊
500+whp N/A is so damn awesome - really wanted to show people it can be done with this video. Thanks man - def appreciate it.
Ive seen a max effort NA 5.7 Put down 507 whp on E85. I believe its on high psi performance youtube
3,5" exhaust with long tube headers and bigger cam. This is the way I like to go .
def understand - sounds insane & the power is there to back it up
Absolutely 😎
Before he even beginning the video I am just going to state the main reason why I want to or would cam my engine is to get a longer rev range. Yes it changes the way the horsepower and torque flow from the engine but not all of us are straight-line burners and a little bit more horsepower and a few hundred more RPMs would be nice in the corners. Now if you can get a mean dirty sound along with it, definitely.
totally understand what you mean.
4:56 scared the hell outta me 😂 thought it broke at first
hahaha - yah that thing hits hard!
That green challenger a monster the white charger looks likes a guy name panda from the dmv
It is panda 🐼
yah I think that is the theme of the charger (panda)
@@RTLife what is panda ig I like his wicker bill spolier.
Yeah, camming a 392 seems to be the smarter choice! Now I just gotta convince my wife to get rid of her 3 series and get one! 🤣 Oh and your car...good LORD that thing sounds AMAZING! I can only imagine what it sounds like in person!
Hahhaa that’s awesome!!! I hope you convince her. Thanks man
I couldnt imagine the labor costs for cam and long tube installments, then again on supercharger as well.right now im a wait a year or two on my scatty pack as it is..im eyeing that redeye charger already.🤣🤣💪
it really depends on the shop. Cam will likely be around $4k for everything & headers can go on as you have the cam installed. All of these upgrades are expensive though - HP def isn't a cheap thing!
Chopping wood is the route I'm taking on my 392.
i don't blame you
Best off the shelf cams is comp hrt stage 2 or 3
How are the performance gains?
My 394 stroker with the HRT stage 2 cam will be driving this weekend, I’ll have dyno numbers in a few weeks after I break her in.
Bri-man Hunter do post info
Predator Ops 31. What would you like to know?
Bri-man Hunter you get the hydraulic rollers one? There’s so many options I have no clue.
This video has helped me a lot. I recently got a 392 scat pack and was weighing my options for performance. I am definitely going to look into CAM upgrade, long tube headers and a stroker kit. Thanks
Looked like fueling and tuning parameters along with cams and headers so all in all it’s not just cams and headers
I’ve watched those videos from macbuilt and I believe he was also installing ported cylinder heads to achieve those horsepower numbers. I have to agree an na build is cool but you’re going to spend some money to get decent horsepower gains. Cai, ported throttle body, ported intake manifold, cam, ported heads, long tube headers and a catback exhaust will run you as much if not more than a forced air setup
You're correct - he does do some porting for these kinds of results. I thought it was only the heads though. Pretty impressive though N/A - wonder what kind of results he would get with a stroker kit added.
I believe the best bang for the buck is possibly a vortech kit. If money were no option, a good NA build would be fun.
It should be noted, that if a person cannot perform their own work, a cam install is going to cost quite a bit of $$$... I've seen ppl pay anywhere from as low as $3k all the way up to $5k for just a cam install. Depending on what type of cam package they went with, if they just did a cam swap, or pulled the heads and replaced lifters, valve springs, pushrods, etc.
my stock challenger scat 6 speed put 444 hp/ 443tq at the wheels, its going to get HRT stage 3 cam/ stainless power long tubes/ colder plugs/180 thermostat and a 93 octane dyno tune, I can't wait.. I hope its got a good sound, I know its gonna be near 500 hp at the wheels when its done.
I told you mackbuilt is legit💪🏾💪🏾 500-530 whp is what he has been getting out these hemis N/A
yup! He's doing some really cool stuff with these hemi's - certainly has a golden cam
Should do high flow heads and a ported manifold. Many Lts are making 550-575 whp with heads and cam on e85
I went with long-tubes, cam, and a cold air intake and was hoping to see results like this, mine made just 475 hp to the wheels
Who's tuning your 392? & which cam upgrade did you go with?
Could be the tune ? Im at 470 whp with lt headers, catless mids, exhaust, intake, ported tb and ported manifold. Should be going in this friday to retune for e85.
Weird brotha am stock and that's what am making 476
The throttle response on that green challenger HOLY SHIT!!!!
yah that thing rips! sounds great
Another great video!
Thanks man - I appreciate it
R/T Life. Yea sir, 394 is going in the truck tomorrow🙃
I really like N/A builds. There is just something about a lumpy cam that satisfies the soul.
You can go the n/a route heads and cam built rt and make 550 Maybe 580 and with a stroker 630whp
yah it's amazing how much power you can get with an N/A build
Yeah those numbers are nice to cruise around and have the power to keep up with almost anything out there, 6.2 aside lol. But that's where I'd like to be with my 5.7, much work ahead.
500whp is plenty - you’re right, not much is hanging with you. They would need forced air
Your intros get sicker and sicker 🔥
Thank you!
This is my next car im saving up for it now
I don't blame you
It's criminal how much people don't prefer N/A SET UPS
I've heard you can loose out on the bottom end when you get an aggressive cam, and long tube headers. That you sacrifice low end power for top end power when you get both of those.
It's still pretty neat though.
That's why you get a converter that puts you where your power comes in
I have a stock 392 running through a stock Chrysler 5.7 exhaust. The quiet exhausts costs me on the top end but I get over 400 lb-ft of torque from as low as 1500RPM all the way to 5000! I am at 426HP/425lb-ft dead stock. I believe with a cam, long tubes, etc I could also get to 500
Way to go, givin Mac some love!
he's a really cool guy & doing some really nice work
Easily go for the cam as it will give you the best sound your gonna get from a v8 with a great gain of 100hp with proper tune and it leaves headroom for major mods down the line.
yup - the dyno showed the cam/long tubes can add a lot of power to these 392's. 500+whp is a lot of performance to play with
R/T Life yeah my girl wants the 2020 charger wide body with cam so when it’s ready I’ll give you the info on power and all that good stuff for your viewers.
@@dad2817 obviously if your running a cam your gonna have fbo's other wise your a idiot in my opinion lol.
My Jeep 392 is cammed. But personally I don't feel much of a difference 🤷🏾♂️ I been battling with myself if I wanna get headers or not. I heard it's a pain in the ass to do on Jeeps so it's costly. And Im guessing I'll probably get like 25hp out of them for 2000+$. Doesn't seem like a good value to me 🤔
loving this channel. i have an R/T plus charger and scatpack challenger
Both are awesome rides! Thank you for the support
Only problem is that if your area has emissions, you couldn’t cam or long tube it. That’s my issue, that’s why I would probably just supercharge mine.
I'm a NA guy from the old skool. Triple
Thank you once again for your spectacularly informative and useful video. You're just about the best in this business and we, MOPAR Enthusiasts all appreciate you.
Question: What d'you think about Short Tube Headers. Is it worth it? And about replacing the Camshaft. Which Camshaft does one use; Hellcat's or some other OEM cam? Thanks
I would skip shorty headers if you have a 392 or hellcat or if you're planning on camming or adding forced air. At that point you want long tubes. IN regards to best camshafts, that's a great question - I would reach out to MachBuild on IG. He seems to have a great thing going with Cammed Hemi's
Cam.... that bird doodoo on the side of your car in the beginning almost made me faint.
yah I need to clean that up! Didn't see it until editing the video
That's more than plenty of power for the streets. Plus you will have more reliability with a REASONABLE N/A build. Plus add a stroker to that, and you have an awesome car. For me if I my car was to be a daily, then N/A build all the way. It's one thing if the engine was built for boost. Outside of that for me power adders is just one more thing to go wrong. For me that's a big issue for a street car. I like RELIABILITY and speed to go hand and hand as much as possible. I'd go with a nice street cam swap with supporting mods, and if the budget permits a stroker as well.
That evil laugh got my dog going nuts!
that lime green chally scat is fire
Nice charger man! Love the hood
thanks man - def appreciate it.
I’m considering getting a scatpack relatively soon and doing a cam is something I’m considering. When doing a cam, what else should be upgraded? I’m not looking for too much of a HP gain but more of the sound
I needed new lifters, pushrods, locators, retainers & springs. You will also need head gaskets, coolant & oil/filter.
@@RTLife did you put back oem parts or did you upgrade the pushrods etc
@@RTLife I did everything cam cai tune headers but the head gaskets tp my 2012 srt8 charger car made 510 to the wheel and 480 torque pretty pleased with the results
I love your videos bro. Keep them up
Thanks man, I really appreciate it
Always said the 392 is better N/A. I am going forced air with my 5.7 though :). Have to save some money first
it's basically the best engine you can get for an N/A build on the market. Most want that forced air though.
Very informative naturally aspirated is much cheaper rout and those are impressive numbers.
I was impressed with the N/A numbers - certainly worth going down that road.
Very awesome man. Those are some serious NA builds man. Good to know they exist. I would probably go NA if I did anything serious to a 392.
Yah an n/a build would be tempting. The 392 seems to bet really solid results
big gains 426 stroker kit for 5.7 6.1 6.2 6.4 hemis put at about 600+ but 1400 with boost combined with the Whipple 4.5 supercharger oh God
Yezzir after watching @mackbuilt making some hits on the dyno youtube and just on the 6.1 producing 500hp all n/a. Of course since I'm running 06 MagSrt8 and his videos was enough for me to reach out. After getting in contact and chopp'n it up (him picking on my brain feeling me out lol) with him. I pulled the trigger. But without having to put too much out there, I will say this...it aint just a drop in cam! Keep up the good work still enjoying your content.
His cam is netting some awesome results. have you installed it yet?
No i have this big (not huge though) lol custom grind cam sitting in my living room. I just hit 170,xxx so I figure if I want to get the most out of this motor before getting a piston and drop in kit. So I might as practically rebuild the heads I'll be replacing lots of the parts like lifters valve seats, upgrading the valve springs, guides and so on. I'm trying to get another set of heads to do that actually But whichever comes first and whichever fits the budget. My 06 MagSrt8 is literally my daily driver almost want to call it my work horse lol. My goal is to keep the drivability and make 500rwhp all naturally aspirated and when ever I want with a switch of the tune, swap out the rears with a pair of ET streets and connect a bottle of go (nitrous) fast for a 120-150 just for a night or day of fun and then after.the fun is over go home back to everyday norm... Its either that or just get the conversion plates from MMX and go with a hellcat supercharger lol havent completely decided 🤣 im just glad after speaking to @mackbuilt when I was placing my order for the cam. The decision to go with a custom gring allows me to have the room to grow with any direction to make more power unlike if I were to go with just the drop in cam... well it was kool to see his work and getting his name out. Trust me he appreciates you giving him a shout and the recognition on your channel. Take care and like always keep up the good content. Sorry for the (3 page letter) long as comment 😅
I have a 2020 392 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat pack and I got easily hit 505 horsepower stock with this car.
Great video, my buddies scat pac was running 514 WHP and he wanted more. He brought it up to 560 WHP, and guess what ? His transmission went out. He should have left it at 514 WHP !!!! Food for thought ? 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
He must have been making tons of low end torque!
I’m at 530whp with my WB Challenger Scat Pack. Getting ready to up that by 25whp or so, and having my tranny built by SHR.
Probably the tune because those hp70 can handle up to 700hp no problem after 700 its better to build it or swap
I am tempted in having Petty Garage do a full package to my Widebody Scatpack but then I will no longer use it as a daily driver. I think specific cars properly done could hold value but only if done by a place with a name and numbered like from Petty's Garage. Most typical garage upgrades tend to actually Depreciate a cars value as most used car buyers want something not messed with.
Both?
That's the dream!

I’m already cammed but I’m adding a hellcat blower next after forging 🔥
Did you get slower ?
Now that’s a charger 😍

Bro your car sounds insane!
I guess for me it would be performance gain vs cost vs reliability if that makes sense. Idk how strong 392s are with boost. "Heard that they dont do well with boost". I drive A LOT so id probably just cam it and hope its a bit more reliable than flrced induction althought you may not make as much.
Edit: "heard they dont like boost" was a friend of mine lol
I hear you - camming a 392 will certainly add a healthy amount of performance
Daryl rabara-brokate. Boost creates to much heat for the factory tight ring lands to hold. The stock bottom end with ring gap will hold a lot more.
@@bri-manhunter2654 it's not the heat, the issue is the top ring land is very close to the top of the piston for emissions bs which makes the top ring land very thin and weak, boost will crack those ring lands then kaboom there goes your engine.
Richie Carbone. Yes, they did do that for emissions and it does not help the situation. However, it’s the tight tolerance of the ring lands touching together from extra heat of the boost causing the piston to Momentarily seize in the bore. The stock bottom end holds way more power when you just add ring gap. This has been proven by Richard Holdener multiple times, WyoTech dyno tuner got last 20 years.
The one issue with stroking a 392 to 426 is it suddenly becomes very expensive if you want to build it up to handle a supercharger and reach very high horsepower and torque. Adding on high strength, ported and polished cylinder heads, you're looking at $16,000 for parts alone for the rebuild before you even begin thinking about adding the supercharger on... let alone the upgraded drivetrain behind the engine.
yah building up the engine starts getting a little too expensive after cam, headers & heads. Even those pieces are a lot.
Awesome video very informative!
Thank you, I really appreciate it. Hopefully it helps some people looking into modding up their 392
Still great video with a ton of good points made
Which cam should i go with for my 2019 scatpack ? Stage 1,2 or 3 ? Whats the difference between all
imo 392 best left N/A with bigger cam for gains, 5.7 put forced air whipple or kenne bell.. kenne bell on 5.7 honestly makes it sound like hellcat 😆
392 is the best engine for an N/A build - the gains are impressive with cam/stroker.
couldn't agree more! 👊

These modifications wouldn’t be recommended for a car under warranty. Am I correct?

I’m having a little problem getting my 2020 RT tuned I haven’t been able to find someone that wants to work on my car 😔
You can get tuners to work on your RT remotely. Meaning they can email you tunes to load up. Is that something that interests you? Look into Hemifever or Greene Racing - both are very popular online tuners
My friends 1320 is a frp tomahawk only car and ran a 10.8 the other day. Just went and picked one up after seeing that 🤣
Thank you!

What's the best cam to get?? 2021 widebody scat pack
I just did long tube headers and a cam and only made 451 to wheels?
They said my intake is restrictive, so I bought a new intake. Hoping to get it re dynoed after.
I had the work done at national speed Inc. It's a 2014 6.4 with only 25k miles.
But what is the cost of getting Cam and Headers buying and installing? For that matter what would a stroker kit cost for parts and install? If it about $5 to $6000 what's the point of cracking the motor open.
Rad video, can you do one for the 5.7 please
I can give it the old college try!
Ive heard its pretty expensive to do a cam swap on the hemi.
depends on the shop & labor costs. I would say $3500-4000 for everything installed is about what most would pay
R/T Life links to where to get a good cam for the 392?
yeah but when you do these modifications something has to give in a negative way. Numbers look good on paper all the time but what happens in real life? Would love to see a side by side dyno graph for comparison. stock vs modded. to reach those numbers, did the car lose low end torq and hp. Cant have that for a street car. Track yes. but i would wat the power it came with off the line. Im curious to know before i go this route.
Thanks bro I needed this video because I just got my 392 and I feel the need for more power and I want a hellcat but there’s no need for that I have the 392 Daytona with the dynamics package it’s a beautiful car and I dint know what way to go whippled or just FBO and a camm but I think this is more than enough for me … do you know what cam are these car running by any chance
It's a custom grind cam by @Mackbuilt on instagram. Dude def has the magic sauce!
Thanks bro
If you can get the work done cheap or do it yourself, add some ring gap and boost it. Absolutely could go up to the 12-15lb range.
Damn. That thing sounds better than my Hellcat.

Which cam you prefer
I would really love to see some details on what camshafts were used the overlap. Etc etc.

Ya gotta go all the way...port the heads, cam, etc. on a stock bottom 392.
A Frankenstein CNC port, custom cam, longtubes....100hp. After that, a 12:1 426ci stroker with titanium valvetrain and short travel lifters would be fun. 7500+ rpms👍

you have to do some research on it. There are a handful to choose from
