Which game engine takes the crown in your opinion?
And remember that if you also want to learn how to make games, you can watch our FREE Game dev course right here: www.gamedevrocket.com/create-your-first-game
Haven’t finished the video yet but probably the unreal engine guy
Based on the 10 minute one
Nevermind I just saw the whole video 💀 I think the Godot guy was the best
@@redcarnotaurus323 ong ong fr cuh frfrfrfrfrfr
@@redcarnotaurus323 but unrel engin :(
not going to lie, thefluffypotato did an amazing job with the last game, the vibe and gameplay were incredible
his 10 minute clicking game somehow scared me
Fr. I had such low expectations after his first 2 games but his 3rd game was amazing
Especially since he said he was still fairly new to godot. Pretty impressive
Yea that is because godot is easy to use..u can make yourself a game without any experience in godot in one day and he is a developer so obviously it will be good.
@@randomcakeGodot is easy to learn?
Godot totally took the cake on this one!
I love how this shows that a game doesn’t need hyper-realistic assets to be a great experience. Well done to all developers!
Spent two years literally going insane trying to get the art to look good in my game, I'm no artist so it was literally soul crushing. Ended up just going back to flat shaded low poly with a line shader. Turns out simple sometimes is the best.
It's the time for me not the ability, I've made a bunch of assets but I had to make a 2 day game for a game jam and that's when I realized, oh my assets in ps1 style took 1 hour, a knife would take 4 hours of painting and modeling usually in my workflow! so true man@@hogandromgool2062
@@hogandromgool2062If you’re not an artist these game jams have definitely shown the value of asset packs
@@hogandromgool2062 art direction trumps all, reason why dishonoured still looks beautiful
godot is trash bruh lol
Thanks for having me! It was quite an interesting challenge. The games looked quite good for 1 day!
Dude your last game was 😎
@@Pro-xm8jbEspecially it being VR, i can just imagine how scary it could be
your game literally made the other games look not that good
Don'ta you use pygame?
Yeah, I use Pygame, but it's not hard to pick up other stuff.
The Godot VR one was easily the coolest. DaFluffyPotato didn't even use pre-made assets, what a chad.
DaFluffyPotato wins by a landslide in my opinion, modelling everything by themself (nothings wrong with using premade assets, but thats dedication for having such limited time) AND coming up with some amazing ideas?!?! Have to look at the games they've made cause if this is what they can do with one day, what they do normally has gotta be amazing!!!
To be fair, the first two games he made were hardly amazing, quite the opposite in fact. He made up for it with the 3rd however.
@@deuswulf6193 Nope the first game was amazing. Game of the year worthy.
@@deuswulf6193 To be fair 10 minutes and hour are hardly enough time to do anything other than build up ideas for other projects.
@@deuswulf6193 second one was pretty creepy and creative tho
He had 10 hours and 1 day it's easy to make models in that time
Wouldn't mind seeing someone representing board/card games and making a physical game for a future episode
Thatd be sick they should do a whole board game episode of this series
that sounds like a great idea
Good idea
this needs to be a thing
THAT IS GENUIS
I think the Godot dev wins by a landslide, not necessarily Godot though. He was creative as hell and I think the only Engine selling points that were made were that Unity and Unreal had respectively good and good looking premade assets.
That doesn't mean that Godot doesn't have good premade assets, because the dev just didn't use anything premade for this project. Really, as long as an asset comes with an FBX, OBJ, glTF, .blend, or other file, it can probably be used with Godot
Godot may not be super high-end and industry standard level, but it's a very capable engine, and may reach great heights in the upcoming few years. Who knows, it might become the "Blender" of the game industry (free and open-source that's almost industry standard level of quality).
@@jmvr I'm sure it will get there. Godot is still pretty new compared to these other two
You nailed it 🎯💯
It also bothers me when I see Godot tutorials using piece of crab game assets...while Godot is capable of using high-quality game assets.
I love how the games turned out!! Had a lot of fun participating 😁🔥
Your gameplay design was insanely good😊
After I saw you, the video became more enjoyable for me :)
I honestly feel like the Godot projects were the only realistic representations of "games made in X time" because the others used asset packs, while DaFluffyPotato actually included making all the assets in their dev time. That said, every project was really impressive given the small amount of time, I love the idea to make the mic always on and repevant to the gameplay!!
Well, I'd argue that it was games made in "X" engine.
And since asset packs are part of the game dev experience, and allowed by the engines, I'd say its fine.
I think so too, but Potato also used his script for VR movement, if he did not have that ready to go he would probably spend few hours fixing bugs in movement etc. (Tbh I don't know shit about creating VR game, but I guess you can have a bit of problems with that)
@@Matshiro id assume his VR Character template is actually just that 1st person Camera script, but i think VR ones has modified movements to acomodate 3dof of vr
could be wrong though since its been so much while since i touched game engine and gamedev in general
@@Matshiro I originally wrote it in a bit over an hour. Could have done it in the 1 day. Just would've lost a bit of sleep.
Not gonna lie, was kinda disappointed to see Gorka (Unreal guy) inserted an asset pack just like that for the 1-hour game category.
I personally really like the 24-hour Godot game. The art style is really cool and the environment looks super interesting, as well as it's the most unique out of all of the three games. Everyone here did an amazing job, love these challenge videos Prod!
Given just a horror prompt and unlimited possibilities, 99 out of 100 game developers will make the same generic slenderman clone.
Hollyyy the Godot one was the best for me , well done to every one
Well, the only one who actually made a game was DaFluffyPotato, and this inspired me to learn godot
Hey, how'd that go for you? I've been playing around with Godot and it'd be nice to hear your experience, and even if it didn't work out, at least you tried right?
Godot dev won by far. Not only he didn't rely on the hyper-realistic assets and lightning (nothing wrong about that, BTW), but his gameplay mechanic is more complete and makes the game legit scary. Kudos for him.
I got extremely motivated to try and create an actual horror game after this challenge, haha 😄
Loved trying out the other developers games as well, it was really cool to see what kind of games could be created within different game engines 🔥
I'd say that thefluffypotato takes the cake with this one. I think the self-made modeling really shows their skill.
Godot is like that one cool friend
with schizophrenia
I'm guessing that we're only voting on the 24 hour ones, so it definitely goes to DaFluffyPotato :D
It’s wild to see DaFluffyPotato make stuff outside of Pygame. It’s awesome to see him out of the blue right after I was checking to see if he had posted recently.
That VR game easily won that
The other games didn't feel tense to me, (I am a huge horror game freak so I'm probably just picky)
Just the audio, the scenery, the whole vibe, just absolutely incredible
Well done DaFluffyPotato
Seeing DaFluffyPotato is always nice.
"I need more orbs."
Panic throws the moment he hears sound.
All the games were great. I do like the 24 Godot game the most. But the 24 hour game in Unreal was really good too. Did not expect the monsters to walk in the Unity game though. Definitely would have caught me off guard.
Definitely would have liked to see them talk to each other about their games at the end
I think Fluffypotato did a great job with the concepts throughout, especially because he placed more of an emphasis on sound and music to make the environment spookier, rather than jus relying on lighting
@dafluffypodato killed it, making all assets from scratch on every level!
It feels like these devs were not at similar skill levels with their respective engines, showcases the differences in the devs more than the engines tbh
I mean he made a VR game, you can't get more immersive than that.
I feel like it would be fun to have Roblox developers on the channel, as it is a way to connect Roblox as it is a big platform, used by adults and children, and also because there are multiple videos that the channel has started a trend by doing development competitions they’re are now videos on CZcams of Roblox developers competing!
I agree!!
shouldve chosen someone with more experience on godot, its really not fair putting someone who started recently against people who started unity and unreal ages ago. dafluffypotato is amazing props to him for still doing well as a beginner
Tbh i thought he started off weak but his final 24 hour one was the best out of the 3
@@brusatv7983 yea it was the best, was mainly talking after seeing the 10 min and 1 hour
these videos are framed as a competition but really its more of a good time. doing jams is great to build experience and Potato clearly had a good idea of his limits when he decided to work around the animation by making a snake.
7:05 I feel like dualwielded is trying to brainwash us by apearing in every video possible.
and I'm here for it
He is the editor
I aspire to make a emotionally captivating horror game, so watching these sort of videos really bring me into the world of horror
I love the progression from Ms paint to VR
The godot game made in one day was by far the best, sound design was the key issue here to that graphically it was not uglier at all, especially the lighting. The 10 minute category is quite unnecessary because it is impossible to make even a substitute for a game in such a short time, this is a good level in the challenge of drawing but not for gamedev
day one if asking for a " multiple devs make a vr game without communication " video
DualWielded editing is so good man makes these videos 100x more enjoyable
A horror scratch game would be crazy
The 3d jumpscare maze was very creative for the time limit.😊
daFluffyPotato's one day project really gives horror vibes, that's actually scary, in my opinion Godot game wins
The other games were neat and all, but the one in Godot has such style and had a sense of cohesion that the others did not. Very cool stuff!
The Godot worm game was really well done, you feel desperate for those Orbs of life and light.
that pixel art guy in the intro looks like he has that dracula flow
5:36 I like how well this works. you can use a dim flashlight to navigate, or you can charge your camera to take a picture with flash but that leaves you in the dark for 2ish seconds. Super cool
6 devs make a game without communicating ON ROBLOX
Dafluffypotato was a surprise to see. but a welcome one.
What a collaboration, Good Job, I hope you blow up soon!
Love it when he fills us up with content!

Nice to see Mr. Gorka. Have been watching a lot of his tutorials lately =)
Been seein a lot of crazy stuff coming from Scratch. I'd love to see some challenges utilizing that platform.
one of the best content creators out there, keep up the great work
Unreal dev: So, my idea was simple. I will recreate the real life and model every single person in the world in one minute.
I have 2 ideas for a different video type. 1.) You give a group of devs a whole asset pack and they have to use only the assets to make a game. 2.) You have a group of devs that each start their own game then it goes to the next person till it's done.
Love these types of vids
You should totally have griffpatch on scratch in the next episode
great video! awesome concept!
Oh, my god! What the Fluff...was that?!!! Amazing job. Really, really amazing. Please, develope a coop horror experience, based on that proto, and you're reach! I swear.
You can probably skip the 10 minutes and 1 hour games, idk, didn't seem relevant... They are not even played. Seeing the devs create the games and also the other dev reactions is the charm of these series 😊
Interesting point! Perhaps we'll do just a quick 1 hour warm-up next time, followed by the 1 or 2 day projects.
The one made with Godot was probably the best, mainly because of the developer.
Great work from the devs and nice video as always. Cheers from Germany
I’d say Unity wins 10 minutes and an hour, but Godot wins 24 hours
Nice to see the devs really embracing their engines. The comments may not like asset packs but for a short game, the only way to pull out the true beauty of those stronger engines in such little time was to use asset packs. Potato also embraced Godot by choosing not to rely on hyper-realistic graphics, Godot obviously is inferior in that field so he approached the task differently and heightening the immersion in all other aspects eg sound, vr, lighting, atmosphere. Just shows that a weaker engine is still capable of immersing the player into the game. I can keep going on about how each dev embraced their engines strengths and weaknesses, everyone did great. Though I disagree with this comment section's hate on the use of asset packs here and how they're saying Potato won because he made his own assets, I just don't agree with that...However, i do still agree Potato won but because of his own skill and creativity. Realistically, these 3 engines have limits that are too difficult to reach (rationally ofc, a 10000vs10000 pvp fps ain't ever happening), if you have an idea, you are the determining factor on whether it's possible, the engines are merely a minuscule tool in the true art of creation.
Never been this early to one of your videos. Can't wait to enjoy it!
I wonder if the second dev has ever seen a real snowy forest before. I find the idea of a snowy forest where trees have leaves quite amusing. But equally terrifying, as it meand that the planet has entered a cataclysmic extinction event. Every single one of those trees is basically dead. That's basically a horror scenarion by itself.
Early snow in fall can do it. Where I live we had a year where we had had snow every month of the year
Where I live, it's honestly pretty common for many of the trees to still have leaves when it snows (Like the above reply, we also can get early snowfall in like september), and then even weirder when they sometimes just start falling when springs almost coming up. But I do have to agree with you, giving lil hints that the planet is dead is a pretty great horror scenario.
From a graphics perspective definitely Unreal, but the gameplay of the godot seemed the most horror like to me
Id love to see a longer version with the other engines also included! Maybe they should try to make a mobile game. Also they should try to make a gane in julians editor which is similar to scratch
A masterpiece as always
Using blockbench for something that isn't minecraft is alien for me
Been watching for a bit, just learned that you're from the city/village over and that your went to primary school with a close friend of mine. Lil surreal
Thx for the Blockbench reference, somehow I completely missed that tool.
what i take from this video:
the engine is just a tool (oh who did expect this) and what really counts is the idea and execution.
Godot game (1day) was the most creative in my eyes.
Fluffy potato is a legend have you seen what he did with only pygame and Microsoft paint amazing!
5:13 wait.. is that the same one like the one corridor crew used in scary renders video?
I think Godot won, because I really loved the art style of the game. But I did get jump scared at 11:55, even though I knew it was coming XD
In terms of artstyle, I think it's more on dafluffypotato's side. He's been making some really cool and unique stuff with python pygame, a 2d engine which could be considered his forte
Love the content u should make a video we’re devs make a game n they can interact and it’s two different teams then after the last dev works on it they switch projects or something around that concept
So I liked all 3 games, however... I assumed from the title that the devs would have to do the same game (maybe even with same assets) just in different engines.
Maybe next time.
That last game with the snake looks amazing
Prime example of good games does not equal realism
Another idea you could try would be to have someone make a base game, and each dev afterwards has to make a level with some unique aspect, like new gameplay element, theme, twist, etc. That could open up some more genre exploration and depth to the challenges, like exploring platformer/3d platformer, dungeon crawler, strategy/rts, adventure, action fighting games, story based games, rougelike and such a bit more.
Maybe it would be more of a level design challenge
ive been wanting to make my own games for ever and ive slowly been teaching my self im happy to see that these game devs use the same things i do. free sound, blockbench, audacity, unity, it tells me that im on the right track. the only thing holding me back is coding and learning how to navigate unity ._ . ....witch is kinda important XD but i know how to use blockbench really well and audacity well enough...😢
R u a spooky scary skeleton?

This seems really fun! :) Would like to see a roblox one, of course
Looks like a W on the books for godot!
Good job fluffy!
The lesson we learned: Give @DaFluffyPotato more time
It'd be cool if you guys did a challenge in a similar style to forged in fire. 3 different stages for one game that may pull them out of their comfort zone with some parameters. Then give the continuing contestants free reign to use their go-to style or engine to make a game off a specific theme
It would be really cool to see this style of video with other games that have limitless editors. Minecraft / Roblox for example.
Yoo godot game goes hard. Amazing concept.
please continue this series
We did it guys, we found danis long lost brother
The fluffy potato won for me
I didn't realize this was a 10min/1h/1d thing and I thought all the comments were just being sarcastic about fluffypotato's jump-scare button being incredible
You said at one point there was going to be a VR pass the game challenge, but we never got one
this looks to be fire
This video cured my crippeling depression
the one hour unreal 5 developer took the whole game from internet but he added a flashlight. This is all
In my opinion? As cool as watching their way of thinking change as the time increases, as well as follow their progress, this challenge was utterly useless in deciding which "engine takes the crown". Why? Because everyone used whatever they wanted, however they wanted, wherever they wanted. Meaning, the engine choice itself is completely and utterly irrelevant.
I like that you’re encouraging use of different game engines, especially since Unity decided to self sabotage
Do your teaching programs include other game engines?
Cause I don’t want to risk making a game with Unity
What happened to Unity?
10 minutes?? I can't even finish a game for 48h game jams
skill issue
the second guy looks like he would advertise atlas earth to you. :DD
Godot developer made all things from scratch in limited time that's impressive...
Haha this mansion that gorka used in 1 hour project is the same that the one used in Corridor crew scary render challenge!
