    The rules of the WC are quite simple: 32 participants in 8 groups with 4 teams each. Within the group each of the four teams plays the three others (so there are 6 games in evvery group). Win gives you 3 pointa, draw 1 point, defeat nothing. Best 2 teams from each group advance to the knockout stage. So knockout stage starts with 16 teams (16 others are already out). And after ronund of 16 there come quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. So you need seven games to win. Great job you both do, I like your videos and comments very much!

      @0xFAB10 Před rokem +3

      The 32 countries are selected with a tournament in the previews years. Depending on their geographical area, a certain number of countries qualifies for the World Cup. Qualified teams are then divided in 4 ranks (from best to worst), based on their global ranking (that is based on historical results). Word Cup groups are created randomly with a team of each rank. The only exception is the Host of the WC that is considered of best rank whataver its ranking is, so they will not face a rank A team in their first matches.

    I've often said that soccer does for the rest of the world what basketball does for the US. There's a place to play on every corner, all you need to play is a ball (so it's cheap), and *everybody* in the neighborhood knows the basic rules. I was watching the NCAAs coverage, and Clark Kellogg said, "Soccer is basketball for the feet." And I don't think he's wrong! Spread out the defense, find the passing lanes and try to get behind them. Close up and don't let the offense through. And constantly be ready to switch. You don't know when they're going to turnover the ball. You don't know when *you're* going to turnover the ball! :D
    The differences are caused by the size of the field (in pro/international games) and the rules about time. The biggest "sin" in soccer is stopping the game (that's why the rule states the whole ball has to cross the whole line, even on the sidelines - fewer turnovers means less stoppage, so do everything to keep the ball in play). That's why the clock counts up, and the official time is kept by the ref. "Oh, you gonna lie there for three minutes? Guess what? We're playing for 48min now, not 45!"
    The US has actually been kind of 'backwards' with the game. It's considered a "rich kid's" sport. Older fans of the sport here hate that, since it shouldn't be that way. I mean, the video's right that it helps to be a rich country to win big tournaments..but the game shouldn't be expensive to *play*.

    Ps. Since they mentioned the "size matters" in terms of football, the countries with small population dont produce many great players. There is a dude from a little country in center america: El Salvador. His name is Jorge "El Mágico" González. He played for small team in spaniard 1st division and thats where he got famous. Maradona himself said he was the best player he ever saw and played with. You'd love to see his skills, it was crazy.

    The World Cup begins with a group stage first. So 32 teams are divided into 8 groups of 4, they all play each other once. After that the top two teams of each of the 8 groups proceed into the knockout stages, one game each round (the last 16, quarter finals, semi finals and then the final. The knockout stage games have extra time and penalties incase it’s a draw after 90mins.

    First things first, world cups happen every 4 YEARS only. So before countries all over the world get to play there they have to QUALIFY and earn their place since limited spots are allocated per continent. That's why one of the biggest stories for this year's world cup is Italy (European champions) not even qualifying for 2 world cups in a row (2018/2022).

    the Finals are a total of 7 games if you get to the Semi finals(everyone who gets to the semis, lays anther game if they win their semi they play the final, if they lose their semi they play 3rd/4th place play off game)
    3 group games (league games, Win= 3 points, draw= 1 point, lose= 0))
    4 knock out games. (Cup knock out you lose and you are out)
    But this is the "Finals" tournament
    The actual qualification takes places in the 2 years before a world cup and is between 14-20 games. The qualification is a league so you dont have to win every game, but you have to win more than the others in your League
    so to win a world cup you play 21 to 27 games and probably have to win 14-18 of those

Dad was a white guy with a United jersey. Mom was a Latina with a CA shirt. Their pre-teen kid had a custom one the family must have made. They'd cut an ATL and CA jersey in half - and sewed the halves together! I don't think I've ever seen anything that describes real football in the US any better than that.

    Firstly I am VERY happy that some americans (sorry to those who are still calling it soccer 🤣, just had to put that joke in) are now calling the beautiful game football. I grew up back in DRC Congo watching football from all over the world (I have 5 brothers and 4 sisters, divided in our picks of teams..my 1st world cup was mondial 1984, not even 10 yrs old yet, I'm a German fan since then). I mean we would go days crying, not eating well if our teams did not do well 🤣🤣🤣.. that's when my "hate" of diego maradonna started 🤣🤣but honestly "hated" more like feared him, because he was that GREAT!! When I moved to Europe, my other half took me to Milan and I first met Del Piero, what a legend (my baby brothers favourite). Man I grew up on the likes of franz bekenbawyer (hope the spelling is right). Ruminigger, ortega, bebeto geez. Arsenal fan in the times of berkamp, Thierry Henry,, not a Man utd fan but Ryan giggs was legend in my eyes. Rooney was brilliant too. Bayern Munich is my team no matter what. Since I moved to Ireland, I miss a lot those great football moment times with my brothers (my sisters too..they get too emotional 🤣🤣they go on food strikes when their teams lose). My choice for Germany is because, although things change..they don't really have like a 'star' player, it's always team work (although football is about team work) but those who know the game know what I mean 😊. Any south american team in my eye is lethal. Although you play to score, I enjoy mainly the skills, hence why Ronaldinho is to me a "capolavoro" 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 😊

    32 countries divided into groups, 4 teams in each group,all 4 teams play eachother meaning you ll play 3 group matches and the 2 teams with the highest points qualifies from each group, which means 16 teams go to the next round 16 teams go back home ,that stage is called the (2nd round)at this stage if you lose you go home that means you only get to play one game to get to get to the next round ,so now we gat 8 teams and 8 gone,this stage is called the (quater finals)You win the next game you get to the next round(semi finals)4 teams left 4 gone the winner of each game go to the final and losers fight for 3rd place (the bronze medal)now obviously the winner of the final wins the world Cup and the golden medals the loser wins silver medal. One more thing bro react to Tyler Adams, I know mookie gon love him ,he is one of the best upcoming defensive midfielders in the game and he is american,he used to play for new York redbulls and then went to leipzig in the german bundesliga and now plays in the Premier league,watching your fellow countrymen play at the highest level will give you the genuine passion you need to expand your knowledge of the game naturally. ✌

    The thing is how Americans view Sports as a past time, their Sports are Franchises... But this is not, it may be abused as one by the Fifa but time and time again, it proves to be out of their control to actually turn the Sport into a Franchise. But Football is cultural, it's a part of every City and Town, Clubs are often quite old and have huge amounts of members where families are part of it passed from generation to generation including ideologies, take Glasgow, they have two major Clubs, the Protestant Rangers and the Catholic Celtics, yes that too factors in here, but let's stay with the franchising and look at the Rangers as example, 41000 members strong, the club is actually fan owned and since they are Scottish... well , let's just say, if the Fifa or Uefa were trying to tell them what they can and can not do... they are Scottish... they have been fined nine times last season for a total of about €120000 by the UEFA for "misconduct"... you think they care? The guy says how strong the Brits could be if not every part had it's own national Team but... it just wouldn't work, the fans would never accept it and that's the thing, if the fans don't accept it, it wont work out, like the super league.

    You can tell a Football nation is a major football nation just by looking at the non Pro leagues. Countries like England, Spain Italy Brazil Argentina, have millions of people who play the game just for fun...to a really high standard.
    Like myself I started kicking a football as soon as I could walk and a started playing proper games at 5-6 years old.
    I watch most footballers and rarely see a player do a skill I feel I could not do or have not already done...and I have never been paid to play and have played with player better than myself. The point is the standard in major football countries is SOOO high because so many people play the game.
    A dude I know is from the US, he has an English Dad who got him into Football really young, and dude was good slick control tidy skills. He was blown away by the lower league standard here. He was saying to me the Sunday league levels (which is non Pro just for fun lowest tiers of 11 a side football in UK) were about the same level as Pro Youth teams in the US. So overwieght beer bellied 30+ year olds were playing to the same standard as Teens in the US that will end up as pro players.
    Another dude I knew from Australia, played at State level in Australia, (which is a level down from pro in Australia) and he said the level of Sunday and Saturday leagues in UK was a little above the State level teams, which is cray.
    The sheer number of players in places like the UK Italy and Spain that DONT make it as pros in these countries, many of these guys could probably be good pro's in lesser leagues.
    That's like finiding a country where their average pick up games are the same as College level Basket ball.....and that is CRAZY!! but thats what Lower levels in UK are like, its real deal stuff

      That's because South Africa has the most f*cked up history in the sport despite billions being invested in it to grow the sport. Europe = physical and tactical, latam = talent, africa physical...if europe keept africa alone they will be the football super power...that is all you got to know
    Didnt like the video much, it is more about european modern football than football itself...saying that you have to be rich to win...maradona, pele, messi and ronaldo were poorer than any of us watching this, uruguay has like 2 mill people, their league is played on dirt pitch and they are up there on the world cup count. Players leave their families before they are 12 to try sign for a club so they can put food on their family table only to be told no in most cases, just a few make it, actually forget this video, it tells tou nothing about what football really is, football is just like life, is hard and you almost always lose, but some times you win and that makes all the suffering worth it, just like life

    The bigger the country or population is nonsense. Look at Russia, the US, Canada, China, India etc. The only "big" country that dominates world football is Brazil otherwise for the most part they're not great

  • @CS-lh1pn
    @CS-lh1pn Před rokem

    This video was insightful but was filled with a lot of meaningless economic hypotheticals. Rich countries have better funding and development but a lot of World Cups are won with golden generations. Brazil, Spain, even runner ups like Argentina, Croatia and Netherlands aren't necessarily rich or huge countries. Just countries rich with producing talent.
    Like the NBA and Team USA for example. Every year there's great US players going into the NBA so the pool to have a 12 man USA Team is stacked. Once in a generation there's guys like Doncic(Slovenia), Giannis(Greece), Jokic(Serbia) coming from overseas. Their countries don't develop and produce to the same level as the US so when it's time for FIBA and the Olympics, Team USA plays against these one man teams. It's the same for soccer.
    It's even more citrical in soccer because the World Cup is played every 4 years so some countries' window of opportunity are low. I can't suggest a better video but hope you guys can sit through my long comment lol.
    World Cup officially starts with group stage matches and there are 4 countries in a group, each playing each other once. They can win(3pts), draw(1pt) or lose(0pts). Once every country has played each other, the top 2 countries with the most points move on to the knockout(playoff) rounds.
    During the knockout rounds it's elimination style 1 game to advance. Countries can't draw anymore and if they do, after 120 minutes the match will go to Penalty Kicks and winner keeps advancing until the World Cup Finals. Same rules apply for Final match and whichever country wins the Finals gets to be crowned World Champs.
