Ed can put as much spin on the list management situation as he likes, but the fact of the matter is that if you're shipping off quality players and getting nothing for them you've cocked it up. Richmond got a first round pick for Jack Higgins for goodness sake...thats great list management right there

This is a classic example why McGuire in the media when it comes to Collingwood is a joke. He just barracks, he has zero objectivity and just speaks over everyone else. Heâs just too emotionally attached.
Not all media have to be carbon copies of each other. Eddie has his biases and that's okay, I love the way he defends the pies to the bitter end. It makes foe entertaining viewing if everyone was just completely neutral it would be boring. I go for West Coast by the way. Eddie is ok with me.

This video shows a lot about Eddie's character. He immediately tried to avoid the topic by saying that there are 11 other teams worse off and then listed the Pies' previous wins in the finals. Eddie, having 11 teams worse off doesn't mean that your list management has been good, their's has possibly been worse (E.g. North Melbourne) or they're younger and less experienced (E.g Fremantle and Gold Coast). He kept coming back to the Pies vs. Eagles EF in 2020, looks like he's completely forgotten that Geelong went on to destroy the pies by 68 points in the following game (in shortened quarters no less). Face it Eddie, list management of the Pies in recent years (2019 onwards) has indeed been a debacle. You got rid of Treloar and Stephenson, while paying Grundy 1,000,000 per year and allowing other players to ask for 700k+.
I think part of the problem is neither were explicit about what they actually meant, ie. they borrowed against the future to win now, didn't win now, and now the cheques are due. I agree with eddie that's not necessarily a 'debacle', but it's correct that it sucks now.
No surprise the club is a mess. Itâs toxic.

He has trouble admitting the trade period was nothing less than embarrassing for the club and set them back big time. He tries to spin it into a 'proud day' instead of admitting mistakes were made, the salary cap was poorly managed. He is not a president any longer and i think the AFL as a whole is better off without him. He's stuck in the mud, he still thinks its 1990 where clubs got away with almost anything. Modern day the media, the fans they are all too smart for Eddie and his broadmeadows antics.

Its pretty hilarious that collingwood thought the best option was to tell treloar the players didn't want him and to then tell the public that they wanted to go to the draft (without any top picks). They very easily could have jusy admitted that they stuffed up their salary cap and the public would have criticized their managment but overall have understood the trades. To make up all this other stuff thinking the public would be dumb enough to believe it absolutely makes their off season a debacle

500k is only slightly above the average wage of an AFL footballer. Mayne was close to our best player in that Grand Final and has held down best 22 status since that one bad year he had at the start when everyone sunk the boot into him. I agree, there have been some incredibly bad list management decisions in recent years... but the recruitment of Mayne isnât one of them
@@simzed6484 i agree, his grand final was excellent. I think the Mayne trade has aged well... Seemed an absolute debacle after one year (did we offer to trade him back after one year?!) But has gotten better over the years.

I didnât renew my pies membership this year. Eddie, Ned Guy, Bucks all completely stuffed this up. Still love the pies and Iâll always stick by em, but the club takes its members for granted
Most clubs take their members for granted Jesse. Many Geelong supporters are still waiting for their memberships, not getting the seats they paid for, etc. so you are not alone.
Membership are the life blood of the clubs heaven forbid your team makes a grand final 50 000 members only 25 or 30 000 tickets i love my club was a member not any more i buy things through the club better way to support them

Collingwood is such a divisive club. You either love or hate them. I definitely side on the latter. But I still think Eddie whilst maybe stayed too long was a passionate and intelligent President for Collingwood. But yes, the way they handled trade period was abysmal and disrespectful.
Years ago at work the footy tipping competition was run by a really strong Collingwood supporter. If you rang through your tips and tipped against the Pies he would angrily start arguing with you !! I thought of that watching this clip. Impossible for the boys to discuss Collingwood whilst Eddie is on the panel.

I think its intresting how Mathew Lloyd use to be similar to kane cornes but probably actually realised negative media affects people's lives outside a football club.. I love the way Lloyd trys to defuse the situation by stating the facts rather than trying to be antagonist these days.

Not a pies supporter, but you canât call the last 5 years a debacle of list mgmt. Last trade period was ugly. Letâs wait on Treloar he gets soft tissue injuries all the time, Stephenson will go missing as well. Theyâve got a good 2021 draft coming, Iâd slip down and get another decent pick as well and then trade it for a first rounder in 2022. Even with these players they got rid of they wouldnât have been contending anyway. Biggest mistake is overpaying Grundy, but there would have been other teams who would have paid that for him

Pies supporter here and we are in a bad way. Not 1 person from the club has held a press conference and explained to the members/supporters in detail what happened with the salary cap debacle. I think everyone agrees people make mistakes but own them and put your hand up, the sooner you do that the quicker people forgive and move on. There seems to have been a lot of burying heads in the sand. It is a disgrace how Collingwood treated the players moved on in the off season. I understand it is very much a business now and players don't have the loyalty they once had but in my opinion that was not good enough by the Pies. Love the club and we will be back but it is hard at times following the pies.

I donât support Collingwood at all but ever since Iâve been aware of Eddie Iâve always admired his passion for the Pies.
I'm a Saints supporter, and have no love for the Magpies, but Eddie is right, Collingwood topped up in 2017,18,19 and very nearly got it right!. A different bounce and a different result from a kick at goal and they may have won a couple of premierships. Yes they stuffed up the media communication in last trade period, but their strategy and recruiting over the previous 5 years was great. It was not a debacle as Sam said. Unfortunately for the Maggies, they now have a rebuild ahead, with or without Bucks. Just like the Saints had in 2012 onwards. Saints traded/released DalSanto, Goddard, and a few other great players, and they retired other greats, Collingwood will have to do the same this year, or face a long long rebuild like our friends (not) at Carlton.
Treloar is a good player, as is Jayden Stephenson, but they are not Great players. Collingwood was paying them too much for their contribution, and it was a sensible, albeit a painful and necessary decision to get them off the list. I hope the pies finish in the last 4 for the next 10 years, but I can't criticize their list managers, because I think they did the right thing for the club.

Poor journalism by Sam, while he is absolutely right about how bad our list management has been, he did not bother to state the facts, first round draft picks for Dane Beams a 30 30 year old player who the club new had issues, first round pick for Aish , who was lucky to get a game at Brisbane and who we traded out, picked Stephenson over Naughton when we desperate for key position players , it is sad when most of the public are screaming for a key position forward and we go down the road a half forward flanker. the stupidity of not drafting Riccardi he may not be the greatest kpf but he is a lot better than what we have.

The Pies traded out a number of players last trade to address mistakes made in prior years and help them in the future. The very fact they did this to such quality players who they are now badly missing demonstrates a clear debacle by any definition. That you have to sell the farm in order to survive all points to prior year debacle regardless of any spin. That there were so many different stories floating around as to why these players were sold off and the Pies paying partial salaries for next few years to other club/s is evidence of a debacle. Nice try Eddie but facts are facts you can't hide from these. Three years ago they were playing great footy for one year and almost won a flag today struggling to get out of bottom 4. If they turn it around in next couple of years it will be great job at fixing the debacle of list management over prior few years.
Collingwood got rid of a lot of there talent and went to the draft to open up opportunities for the likes of Finlay and Also had in mind nick Daicos.
